Helldivers 2 CEO says Sony is doing their job but Arrowhead is failing to deliver

The partnership between Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios has been a controversial one. While the Japanese publisher has helped to propel Helldivers 2 to heights very few could have imagined, some decisions have also led to its downward spiral. However, Arrowhead sees the partnership as a positive and puts a lot of the blame on themselves.

The Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani recently took the official Helldivers 2 Discord server to discuss the recent blog post that shed light on the 60-day roadmap. Among the series of questions regarding the update, one of the more interesting pieces of information was regarding the Escalation of Freedom update, which is what caused the backlash that led to the 60-day roadmap.

After Jorjani noted that the “Escalation of freedom being a bit lackluster and the flamethrower overshadowed a lot of good stuff” this prompted ub to say that they “think the level of marketing the update had was a bit much considering it wasn’t a huge content drop,” while also saying that “90% of the update was good however.” Jorjani then came to Sony’s defense by stating that “Sony did their job. It was us who didn’t deliver enough.”

Both companies have faced their share of controversy when it comes to Helldivers 2. Sony came under fire earlier this year for forcing all players to connect a PSN account to be able to play the game, which has caused players in 180 countries to be locked out and unable to purchase Helldivers 2 due to the service not being available in those countries. This caused an extreme amount of backlash, with the game receiving over 154,000 negative reviews. Arrowhead Game Studios has also seen its share of backlash regarding updates, with its reactionary nerfs based on weapon popularity causing a lot of players to move on from Helldivers 2.

Only time will tell as to whether Arrowhead Game Studios delivers, but players won’t have long to wait to find out as the first update of the 60-day roadmap is set to be released on September 17th, with Jorjani claiming that the patch notes will be “6-8 pages long,” which means that there will be plenty of changes, hopefully, all of them good.
