Helldivers 2 CEO reveals release window for next update

Freedom's Flame Armor in Helldivers 2

It has been incredibly quiet recently when it comes to Helldivers 2, but there is a good reason for that. Following months of reactionary updates that have left the game overbalanced and unenjoyable, it all came to a head following the Escalation of Freedom update.

This update brought Helldivers 2 into Arc 2 to further the Galactic War, but it was instead met with backlash after popular weapons such as the Breaker Incendiary Shotgun were nerfed. Due to the backlash, Arrowhead Game Studios revealed a 60-day roadmap to help bring the game back to a healthy state and address many of the issues affecting the game.

Shams Jorjani, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, recently took to the Helldivers 2 official Discord server to answer some questions from the community regarding future updates and what to expect. It has now been a few weeks since the last update was released, and with the 60-day roadmap being announced since, players are wondering what to expect next from the game.

While answering a question relating to an upcoming potential buff to the Thermite Grenade, Jorjani told a player to tell him “how you feel in two weeks.” This gives us a solid window of when to expect new content to come to the game, which should be before September 18th, hopefully, it will be much sooner though.

Arrowhead Game Studios recently announced on Discord that the team is set to release a new blog post on September 5th. This blog post will outline what the team has been working on behind the scenes since announcing the 60-day roadmap. This roadmap is designed to rectify many of the issues caused by the recent Escalation of Freedom update, particularly weapon nerfs and the reactionary nature of past updates that have to many weapons becoming too weak. The Helldivers 2 Community Manager Twinbeard recently confirmed that this will be the focus of the first update.

The 60-day roadmap is the most important period in the history of Helldivers 2 so far, with it feeling like a do-or-die situation. The game is currently suffering from its lowest player count ever, regularly dipping down to just 7,000-10,000 concurrent players on Steam, a far cry from the 100,000 concurrent players it saw just a few months ago. Arrowhead Game Studios seems to understand this and is determined to deliver on the promises they have made, but only time will tell as to whether they manage to pull it off.
