Was Cal Kestis an Existing Character Before Jedi Fallen Order?

No, Cal Kestis didn’t exist before Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order explores the universe after the Jedi purge that was Order 66. As such, the list of Jedi characters left alive after the event is relatively small. Many of these Jedi already feature prominently in other media, making it hard to tell a new story while fitting characters inside their existing timelines. Creating Cal Kestis allowed the developers to tell their own story in the Star Wars universe, without complications.

What Star Wars Media Does Cal Kestis Appear In?

Cal Kestis only appears in two video game titles so far, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. He also stars in the 2022 novel Star Wars: Brotherhood, giving us our earliest glimpse at the character and his first meeting with Darth Vader taking place before the events of Revenge of the Sith.

While Cal Kestis hasn’t appeared in any movies, the character in the games is voice-acted and modeled after actor Cameron Monaghan. As such, it wouldn’t be impossible for the character to show up in a future movie or series production in the future.

While the list of current appearances is short, Fans should look to the future with hope. Reviews of Jedi: Survivor have been incredibly favorable, and this could go a long way towards cementing the importance of Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Universe.
