Diablo 4 provides different ways for players to earn loot and upgrade their character, and a lot of chests will be opened during the many hours that players will put in the game. There is a new kind of chest in the latest game that requires a Whispering Key in order to open.
These cannot be earned with common in-game currency or dropped from defeating common monsters, which will make them a somewhat rare item. This guide will help Diablo 4 players get a Whispering Key, where it can be used within the game’s world, and what rewards come from it.
Where to Get the Whispering Key
Whispering Keys cannot be found around the world or dropped as loot when defeating monsters. A key can be purchased from the Purveyor of Curiosities vendor located in major cities and towns where other vendors reside. They are marked with an icon symbolizing a bag of money on the map.
Each special key costs 20 Murmuring Obols, so gold has no use for these specific items. Murmuring Obols can be earned by completing various activities across the game. This includes inside dungeons, found in chests, and finishing World Events like Ashava the Pestilent world boss.
How to Use the Whispering Key
The Whispering Key can be used to open Silent Chests, which are placed and hidden around the open world of Diablo 4. These chests are marked with shiny golden chains around them, and provide rare loot when opened that will help with endgame and reaching max level stats. Keep an eye out for legendaries.
Players can simply walk up to one of these Silent Chests when found, and open it like any regular chest as long as there is a Whispering Key in the player’s inventory. The key will disappear upon use, and the player will have to get another one of these special keys to open up the next chest. Silent Chests do not appear on the in-game map and have no waypoint, functioning like random encounters.
