The long-awaited next instalment in the most popular team shooter franchise, Counter-Strike 2, has finally been released to live servers. The game may be the definition of “same, but different”, but not all features seem to have made the cut. One such case are the ever-popular War Games, which didn’t make it to CS2, much to the fans’ chagrin. Although they could be back at a later date, many players are lamenting the lack of their inclusion less than 24 hours since the game launched. Is there a reason for concern and will War Games return to CS2? Let’s see what the players have to say.
Players confounded that CS2 released without War Games
In the current version of CS2, players can play several game modes. This includes Casual, Competitive, Deathmatch, Wingman, as well as Premier and Private matchmaking. Yet there’s no sign of War Games. Many CS players took to Reddit and other social media to vent their frustration.
With many game modes available in CS:GO, a good portion of players opted to play only War Games. Like Redditor DumKopfNZ, who says “[…] 650 hours in War Games, never played a proper round of CS lol.” Some players suggest that Deathmatch is all we’re going to have for some time. But that is just one game mode, and it comes with its own set of problems.
User Cheezkid26 expanded on the issue “I want war games back so bad. Deathmatch is pretty fun especially if you get into a good lobby without many campers, but I had been hoping to hop into an Arms Race lobby. I always loved playing that, Demolition, and Flying Scoutsman with bots and occasionally a friend stomping bots with me. It was a great way to relax and shoot the s**t for a while, was a good mindless thing so I could watch a YouTube video on my second monitor and appease my ADHD. Seeing them gone is disappointing.”
These are only some of the comments, and the discussion surrounding CS2 is full of questions about War Games. More specifically, about when will the War Games return to the game. While some players used them to chill or warm up, many enthusiasts played them almost exclusively and truly enjoyed that mode of play in Counter-Strike. For their sake at least, we hope they will be brought back sooner rather than later.
What are War Games?
War Games represented an alternative way of playing Counter-Strike. It was made up of fun casual game modes that players can enjoy without the usual CS round-based play. It was home to some of the most popular game modes, including Arms Race and Demolition, which were the game’s official variants of the popular GunPlay mode. There was also Flying Scoutsman, in which players could only use SSG 08 with no gravity to fly and shoot. Last but not least, there was Retake, in which players could practice retake scenarios for actual games of CS:GO. Besides them, there were also several discontinued War Games that have come and gone over the years.
