Trying to figure out how to activate solar orbs in Coral Island? You’re not alone. We’ll cover everything you need to know about finding these important checkpoints while diving to heal surrounding coral sites.
From the start of your Coral Island playthrough, you’ll be tasked with bettering the Town Rank. This involves cleaning up the environment, both on land and underwater. Once you have access to diving, Dr. Ling will request that you activate several solar orbs during your travels. In turn, this will help to heal coral sites around the island, improving the tropical community. While the head of the laboratory gives you a rundown on solar orbs and what they look like, she doesn’t tell you exactly how to use these devices. Here’s how to activate solar orbs while diving in Coral Island.

How to Activate Solar Orbs in Coral Island
After a few days on the farm in Coral Island, you’ll receive a letter from Dr. Ling in which she asks you to meet her down at the pier. Upon arrival, she’ll lend you a diving suit and teach you the ins and outs of this island pastime. She also tasks you with healing five coral sites by activating solar orbs beneath the water’s surface. However, she doesn’t explain exactly how to do this, leaving you to your own devices. Fortunately, she does let you know to use your scythe.
When you dive into the depths of the sea, equip your scythe to begin clearing the endless piles of trash. To start, you’ll only have access to a small area. That said, you won’t need to go very far to find what you need. Near the spot where the anchor sits, you’ll see a stone structure. This is not a solar orb, but the item you’re looking for will fall into place here when you locate it amongst the trash.
You may need to clear most of the garbage in the area before you manage to find the first solar orb. On my own playthrough, I cleaned up enough to whittle my stamina down to about half. If you need to make a second trip on another day, don’t worry. The trash will remain cleared each time you come back.
Eventually, you’ll stumble upon an item that looks to be a small loot sack. This is the solar orb. When you approach the item, you’ll see a prompt to activate it, as pictured above. Do this to initiate a short cutscene wherein the black vines surrounding the area are eliminated and the coral site is healed. Moving forward, you’ll be able to access additional areas and activate more orbs.
