Does Baldur’s Gate 3 Support Playing with Controller?
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in early access since late 2020. During that time, the game had no native controller support. Players were able to circumvent this issue by using Steam’s Big Picture Controller settings to play the game. Even then, the controls were wonky at best, so it wasn’t the optimal way to play, especially when typing was involved.
However, upon its release, yes, you can play Baldur’s Gate 3 with full controller support. This makes perfect sense when you think about it. For one, the game was already planned to be released on consoles about one month after the PC version. Moreover, the Steam Deck platform favours playing with a controller, and that version releases shoulder to shoulder with the PC version. Adding to that, Larian Studios has already shipped a game with very comfortable controller support, Divinity: Original Sin 2.
How to enable playing with a controller?
To enable playing with a controller, you don’t have to do much at all. The game will detect your input mode automatically. However, if you prefer a different input method, you can select it in the Options menu. That is also where you can set up the key bindings for your controller as well.
