Have you ever woken up and thought of calling in sick so you could stay at home and play your favorite game? We’ve all skipped a class or two in school so we’d finish a particularly demanding level. Maybe you even skipped a family function just because a new update was about to drop. Well, some players actually take it a step further. One devoted player admitted to leaving their position as a novice monk for Baldur’s Gate 3.
A Player Shares What Made Them Quit Being a Novice Monk
We’d like to start by asking you to keep in mind that it isn’t easy putting yourself out like this player did. They were aware that their decision would likely be faced with disapproval and judgment. Thankfully, the Baldur’s Gate 3 community members are probably the best people to share this decision with.
The player, B84UV, shared their story with the community. They noted: “This game was so good I quit monasticism”. The OP explained how they were hoping to finish the game before leaving for the monastery, but they didn’t succeed. They said how they found the game amazing and couldn’t stop thinking about it.
What caused them to quit their calling were the emotions they felt while playing the game. The OP recalled: “I roleplayed as a good paladin, loved Shadowheart, and hated Laezel. And these feelings were genuine too! It is amazing how a game can make you experience so different emotions”.
Many community members made lighthearted jokes about this decision, some even pointed out the irony of it. Feisty_Steak_8398 joked: “Confirmed – DnD is indeed the work of the devil”.
Others offered full support to this player and the decision they had made. Tendieman98 noted: “Nah, follow your passions. If you would have been banned from enjoying what is just an excellently written fiction, then I think they might be the problem and not you”.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Community Offers Their Full Support
Even though literally no one criticized the OP’s decision to leave their calling as a novice monk, some Baldur’s Gate 3 players pointed out that young people need more guidance in life. After all, this player was about to devote their entire life to religion, before leaving it all for a game.
Another player, thelessertit, noted: “If something as simple as playing a video game makes you realize that a huge religious lifestyle commitment is not for you, then that life would never have worked out for you long-term”.
They added: “It wasn’t about the game, or not wanting to give up videogames in general. Something else would have come along that made you realize it wasn’t a good fit for you. You probably just saved yourself and that religious community a lot of wasted time”.
The_ArchMage_Erudite kindly advised: “You seem a bit (let’s be honest, A LOT) confused about your life. Of course, you’re young and this is somewhat normal, but, please, be careful about your future. I don’t care if you’re becoming a doctor, a monk, or whatever, just choose your future wisely”.
In all honesty, this community is one of the kindest ones we’ve ever encountered. And that is, or better should be, what all the communities are about, support and friendship even during the hard times. We are very thankful for being a part of something so wonderful. Also, we’d like to wish the OP all the best on their journey.
