That's a worry. I read they still don't even know why the batteries exploded.

Because lithium batters explode. You could stab one with a knife and watch it catch fire. If you wrapped a couple of them in duct tape and rigged up a stabby thing you basically have a pipe bomb. A failure in the batterys external or internal structure= exploding phones.

bouzebbal2620d ago

Lol that must be fun to play it in the plane.. Seriously, the note7 fiasco is old now.. They must have had enough time to adjust and switch suppliers

I like how people are disagreeing. Take the battery out of your phone. Stab it. Watch it smoke (at least) if not catch fire. (or just look up a youtube video.) Now what do you think happens to all that energy if there is something containing it for a while but that isn't strong enough to contain it properly? Think dry ice bomb.

Now look up the amount of energy that can be contained in a lithium battery can (on the high end) rival that of compressed hydrogen, which we all know causes big explosions if you set it on fire in a sufficently enclosed space.

The plain and simple truth is that such batteries can easily be put in an enclosed space to release much of their energy into a pressure vessel and that pressure vessel can be coxed into releasing all that energy at once, in the form of an explosion, and that they catch fire if you stab them means they release this energy fairly quickly if you prod them into it so you wouldn't be waiting long. IE, you can do something like wrap them in tape (create a pressure vessel) and rupture them to create an explosion.

@bouze:

In Canada, they banned that phone from getting onto a plane, and were kicking people off of the flight if they had that phone.

Note7 fiasco is old? In my country, every flight starts with the announcement of rectricted access for Note7 owners.

They do know why. The batteries were in an enclosure that was too tight. The batteries expand and since there was no room to do this, they exploded.

Reckless_Love2620d ago

Glad to see somebody else who actually paid a lick of attention to the situation.

No the manufacturer is the one that had the good batteries. Samsung said the problem was with the Samsung batteries and the way they designed the note 7. The note 7 had batteries from this manufacturer and Samsung manufactured their own batteries. Samsung admitted that they were the ones that made design mistakes with the phones.

I guess Nintendo can add another game to their mini game collection!

"Hot Potato"

See who's the last person holding the Switch before it explodes!

Although your hospital bills and Insurance premiums are sure to go up lol.

Bathyj2620d ago

Well thats good news then. I had a Note 7. Best phone I ever had. Was pissed off about that whole this and had to go back to my Note 4.

TheUndertaker852620d ago

Samsung claims it's not hardware related.

Go figure. They've also given the go ahead for S8 along with a new note. In other words when you can't find a known issue or even explain it don't. Just release a new one.

It's also ironic that Switch will have specs similar to the aforementioned products.

This is the same company thousands of companys use don't see an issue as I can't see them using the note battery in the switch must be a slow news day.

Fishy Fingers2620d ago

Exactly. 10% of all mobile phones use their batteries.

If you own an iPhone for example, you've probably noticed you're not on fire.

davand1142620d ago

Also from Samsung said that the batteries that had the faults were the ones made by samsung.

Don try so hard. Who cares?
This company makes the battery for a lot of companies.
