Nintendo's New 3DS Hasn't Been Made with Consumers in Mind

It sucks that there is no AC charger but its far from anti-consumer. Sure, options are better but the author's points are poorly constructed. New 3DS exclusives are anti-consumer? Yea, just like having exclusives use a $150 Kinect, iPad only games/apps, DSi/Game Boy Color only games are anti-consumer right? You don't have to buy it. This isn't like taking away a basic right of gaming like used game DRM, its just tacking on a $5 charger fee. Heck, I don't even think they'll ship New 3DS exclusives like Xenoblade to actual stores, they'll likely be eShop only. Makes sense, just like DSi (for the most part)

The NEW 3DS = like 20+ Pros & 1-2 Cons, and those cons are only cons for a certain % of gamers.

Anti-consumer? It's silly but it's not anti-consumer. If they did not sell the AC adapter and you couldn't charge the system at all then I think it would be anti-consumer. :U

@Mrbojingles @randomass171 The anti-consumer part in my eyes is the game being permanently tied to a specific sku, as a way to force fans of those games to effectively spend $200 to play. This isn't like having to have an add-on/peripheral to play a game at all. Add-ons like kinect add functionality that wasn't there previously, to allow games to be built with that added capability. This does nothing like that. Not to mention, the games for those add-ons typically (if ever) are the caliber of something along the lines of Xenoblade Chronicles. This is the equivalent of GTA 6 being released for ps4, but if you want to play it you have to buy a slim ps4. It's effectively a mandatory system upgrade mid-generation just to be able to play a handful of titles.

It's not mandatory at all, they clearly said they will still make games for the original 3DS but the N3DS is fast, and in every category better that ADDS functionality that 3DS owners have long wanted such at the c-stick which will be a great improvement for games like Kingdom Hearts 3D or Kid Icarus which was unbearable to play unless you had the circle pad pro....which made the system unbearable to hold. It's going to be able to play games the original can't....like Xenoblade Chronicles and make improvements to games like Smash which by all reviews I've seen not only runs faster on the N3DS but controls 100X better. Sure if you want to play Xenoblade you'll have to upgrade but what version of the DS DIDN'T have exclusive games? DS/LITE couldn't play DSI games and DS/L/I can't play 3DS games. That's like buying a PS3 and getting mad you can't play a PS4 game, now if it wasn't backward compatibility then that would be something to complain about.

It seems that the system is for those ones who own a 3DS currently. I think it's worth it though, it has got Xenoblade Chronicles. But no, I still don't have interest in purchasing a New 3DS, maybe until I see a Pikmin game on it.

The fact the SNES buttons are exclusive to the smaller models is pretty stupid surely people who were around to play the SNES now have larger hands?! Grr!! Haha, something so simple yet so cool but annoying that it's not on the XL.

You buy this new 3DS, the battery will have a partial charge, hopefully, then if you don't buy a charger, it'll die and can't be used again!! How does it even make sense!?

The argument can be made about people upgrading to the New model already having a charger, but you can't trade in the older model at Gamestop without the charger, or at least taking a hit on the trade value so they can replace the charger.

The system is essentially a brick without the charging cable.

Why is everyone saying it's Anti-customer. It's a typical practice and the 3DSXL didn't come with a charger... Heck even phone only come with the cable and expect you either have a wall charger at home, you always plug it into your computer, or you will go out and buy one. Add to the fact 3DS chargers are DIRT CHEAP so if you don't have one at home when you upgrade you can get one for 5 bucks, if you can't afford 5 bucks then you probably should rethink your priorities when buying this 200$ machine because you clearly can't afford that if you can't afford 5 extra bucks.

No it was everything thing to do with gamers proving yet again they are entitled children. If it uses the same charger then there is no reason to come with one. I've had every iteration of the 3DS and some how ended up with 5 chargers when only the original 3ds and the 2ds came with one.

A. Get told they need a charger or the salesmen suck
B. not give a dam about $5 and just buy one (because seriously, what's $5?!)
C. Turn around and not buy at all

Kids are expensive. $5 isn't much more. We're not solving life's greatest mysteries here, it's not that hard

I agree with you man. I've bought every iPhone and was never given the charger. Just the cord that goes into the computer. You know what I did? I went and bought the stupid charger. Now I have like 6 of them, and 2 for the car. All of those cost way more than $5 a piece. People just want something to complain about. I remember the PS3 didn't come with an HDMI cable, but now I have 10 of those.

It's sad how cheap some people are. No wonder the industry has problems. They want consoles cheap, games for next to nothing, and perfect running servers to come out of the full game cost (that they wait and get on sale).... Just sad. People really are entitled nowadays.

So it's ok for the company to be cheap and not the consumer? Maybe tv's shouldn't come with power chords. Maybe when you buy a car it shouldn't come with keys. A power cord shouldn't be an accessory as you freaking need it to use it again. That's great that you have a bunch but for those that don't its a slap in the face. You brought up ps3 yes that should have had an hdmi cable too.

Your analogy is flawed my friend. They could have put the cord in, and it would cost more. Then people would complain about that too. Look at all my examples of customers being cheap. You know companies are trying to make money too. Nowhere do I see them(hardware companies) being "cheap" like people want to say they are. It's not like you buy this thing and Nintendo gets $200 profit. Buy it or don't, it doesn't matter to me.

If cars didn't come with keys people wouldn't by them. Not to mention those cost a lot more than this does. Same with tvs. If the remotes didn't come with they wouldn't be able to sell all the features that new TVs usually have (smart ones especially). Where do you get that I "like to be ripped off"? Because I pay for the things I want and use in life? Because my $700 phone didn't come with a power cord? Because my $600 PS3 didn't come with HDMI cable? Live a little and stop worrying so much about $5. Probably waste more than that in one day

You are one dense individual. The charger should 100% be in there. It's not about price its essential to the product. Buy a vacuum without a cord and see what that gives you. There are a lot of cords in your house maybe you can add one yourself. Or maybe buy that separately.

Maybe they shouldn't include the stylus either. Another separate purchase.

that was the Ambassador Edition and it seems like it was only in Europe and Japan. Which is a shame because it looked cool.

Personally I am an XL person myself, so I just jumped on the chance to get the Majora's Mask one.

I don't have a DSi or 3DS charger. I've been sitting pretty with my black DS Lite all these years, and am finally ready to upgrade. The DS Lite charger is different.

I can't believe they just stealth announced a Next Gen handheld out of nowhere so shortly after their last handheld. If they announce a new Home console when I just got the Wii U. Ima be upset.

it's not exactly Next Gen.. think of the DSi when the DS was around. It's like a stop-gap system to fill in the blank until the true successor releases in a couple of years.

Apple releases a marginally better piece of hardware each and every year.... and most people mop it up, so I can't really understand why this is such a bad thing. The 3DS came out in 2011.

ummmm.. the New 3DS is being released in NA.

It's just that here in NA we are only getting the XL model, whereas elsewhere they are getting both the standard and XL models.

That may still change in the future however, never say never.

Don't lose your original PS4 charging cable people, because Sony likes to sell you rechargeable controllers without a charging cable. I guess they just assume that you already had one when you bought the console, so you don't need extra ones.. :P /s
