[Rumor] Next Mass Effect is Current-Gen Exclusive

"BioWare just released Dragon Age: Inquisition on PlayStation 3 and 4 as well as on Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Xbox One and finally, on PC. This was a huge undertaking for BioWare and the first time they developed across five platforms, let alone the first time they developed a massive open world across so many." - Stealthy Box

Mass Effect on current gen would be out of this world. Get it, haa! haa!

No but seriously, cannot wait, I just hope it turns out to be really good!

sobotz3430d ago

I hope it's using Frosbite 3.0 like DA:I, I want to see a current gen-focused frosbite graphic, especially it's a Mass Effect

-Ikon-3430d ago

of course its going to use F3. ME since 1 has been getting more and more shooter like.

sobotz3430d ago

@Ikon
Not all Frosbite-powered games are shooters.

M1ST4K33430d ago

@-Ikon- Learn what a game engine is...It's a framework to build games up on... it has nothing to do with the genre...
You can even make CGI "movies" (cut-scenes) in game engines...

Muzikguy3430d ago

I haven't played these games before. A current gen only version would definitely get my attention though!

jspsc1233430d ago

stop what you are doing and go play them.

Muzikguy3430d ago

I'd love to right now, since I'm at work :P

Arkardo3430d ago

Mass Effect 1 it's one of my most top rated games from last gen along the likes of The Last of Us and Uncharted.

deafdani3429d ago

Last I checked, The Trilogy was dirt cheap across all three platforms. Go get it, dude.

SgtSlaughter2123429d ago

Mass Effect, Uncharted, and Halo (pretty much in that order) are my favorites. Cannot wait for the current-gen versions of each of these.

Few things:

By the time it comes out like expected in 2016 cross gen would be pretty much dead

But part of me thinks this game isn't as far from release as EA would like us to believe. I think this could be a very early 2016 feel to it

Most big games should be current gen only now, let's please move on

Gamer19823429d ago

This is going to use the engine DA:I used no doubt about it. Making he game a lot easier and quicker to develop. No doubt it will be modified but why use a differn't engine when that one is perfect for the game?? It has everything you need from the ground up they just need to modify it for Mass Effect.

x5exotic3429d ago

I played ME3 without playing the first 2... is that okay?

Please be true

Cross-gen needs to die

Outthink_The_Room3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

People are expecting it to come out in 2016. I don't think we'll see cross-gen at that point. Both MS and Sony will have moved on for 99% of the titles at that point.

Nobody thought this generation would take off as quickly as it has. The games we're seeing have been in development for a few years. It's tough to justify next gen only, when nobody could really have stated for a fact that we'd have as many consoles in homes like we do now.

From a company's perspective, you have to look at what is economically smart based on predictions. But since next gen consoles have been flying off shelves, I think the move to next-gen only titles will definitely start happening from now on.

OB1Biker3430d ago

They confirmed it a while ago to be current gen only

Iltapalanyymi3430d ago

this needs to be true. last gen consoles would really hold this back in current gen consoles.

masterfox3430d ago

I hope so and hearing that is not a damn ugly prequel it got me a little bit excited too.

markyboy21813430d ago

cross gen is summit that should NEVER of happened in the 1st place

Summons753430d ago

Yes, let's alienate the majority of gamers when new gen still doesn't have a huge install base and completely stop making games for those who either can't afford an upgrade or have other circumstances holding them back. Get over yourself buddy. While I'm glad to see more games starting to be current gen only there is nothing wrong with cross gen. The next-gen ports are whats bothering me and a huge reason as to why they SHOULD have backward compatibility instead of extorting more money out of fans.

etownone3430d ago

Too bad for gamers that can't afford next gen...

By the time the new mass effect comes out.. The 360/ps3 would have been out for 10.

So... Again.. Too bad if you can't afford next gen within the next year... But the people that did buy a ps4/xb1 shouldn't be held back anymore.

if you cant afford $300 you fail at life

BioWare Could be Working on More than Just Dragon Age Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 4

Earlier this year, BioWare was hit with layoffs as part of a downsizing of parent company Electronic Arts, but fans have been reassured that the next Mass Effect game hasn’t been impacted. Likewise, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s development is still churning along, with BioWare putting it at the forefront of its focus and rumors suggesting that it could launch sometime later this year. Fans might be getting another look at the long-in-development Dragon Age: Dreadwolf at the Summer Game Fest in June.

If the recently posted job offering for a temporary development manager is any indication, BioWare could have yet another surprise up its sleeve for when Mass Effect 4 and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf are nearing completion. This mystery BioWare video game could truly be anything, from another spin-off of its two major properties to something entirely new. All there is to go on at the moment is a vague mention in the job posting, and it might still be some time before BioWare is ready to confirm any new games in its pipeline.

So a studio that spent years on anthem then this dragon age thing is now also working on another ip along with mass effect,

You think they would be worried that there brand has been on 3 major screw ups

Dragon age 3 launched broken with the frostbite engine yes its a good game but you can see in the late game how rough it was

anthem......

Mass effect 4 well that dev team was fired so yeah.....

They should make sure this new dragon age is a goat instead of putting more work on the table

bababooiy23d ago

Bioware today is like 150 poeple i dont see how they are seemingly working on all these projects at the same time.

Michiel198923d ago

Inquisition wasn't broken, it just had some flaws and on the contrary it also had some strengths. If you call inquisition a major screw up then idk what to say.

That said with what happened to the study since then and now, I'm not really confident that their next game will be any good.

just_looken23d ago

If you played it fully to get plat like me back in its novemeber launch window you had that castle with empty area's endgame missions not there or working and a mp that was made around loot box grind like the mass effect mp.

Its hard to explain to those that played it years later after they tossed out the dlc/patch's

Michiel198923d ago

entitled much? I played it at launch too. Why you even platted it if it was a "major screw up"?
It was good enough for you to sink 100 hours in but also a complete fuckup at the same time, make up your mind.
So either you like shitty games or you're just talking out of your ass.

RaidenBlack23d ago

Well just wanna say, Archetype Entertainment is the new BioWare, composed of mainly ex-BioWare vets.
And they're developing Exodus (starring Matthew McConaughey), a new sci-fi RPG (spiritual successor to Mass Effect, dare I say?)

CantThinkOfAUsername23d ago

I hope it's a single player game with Anthem's gameplay mechanics.

Becuzisaid23d ago

They're owned by EA. What makes you think that they wouldn't publish for PS5? Shoot, if your fridge could connect to your bank account EA would try to release it for that if they could!

Double_O_Revan24d ago

How about they focus on those games and not over extend themselves? We don't need another Anthem.

Becuzisaid23d ago

Bioware died after Inquisition (some would even argue after ME3). They are no longer the same company.

New Mass Effect Game Teased for N7 Day, and It Shows a Mysterious Individual

Today is known as Mass Effect N7 Day, and BioWare has released what looks to be teasers for the new Mass Effect game.

Snookies12170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

We really need another solid Mass Effect entry. It's a real shame that such a legendary franchise was left off with such a blemish to its overall astounding track record. Andromeda was just not it, don't know what they were thinking there.

-Foxtrot170d ago

Surprised it got a subtitle

I thought after Andromeda they’d have kept to the numbers so people wouldn’t think “oh another spin off”

Unless Shepard returns

Obscure_Observer169d ago

"Unless Shepard returns"

After ME3, Shepard should f* off

Stanjara169d ago

Put a chick in it and make her gay.

Ethereal168d ago

Yes! One of my all time favorite trilogies. Hopefully they do ME justice. Andromeda was passable and had bones of a good game but just lacked the depth and intrigue that the originals had.
