Xbox One Has Made The Most Remarkable Comeback, Better Option Than PS4 In Holiday Season 2014

PS4 owns 2015 though, I'm happy with the 3rd party lineup until greatness arrives. I might be in the minority but there's not much on X1 that I'm currently interested in.

I fully agree with you but you have to admit how strong and aggressive Microsoft is being with the xbox this holiday. Even though I strongly don't want to purchase an xbox one I feel like I have to because of how cheap it has become with games included. I simply won't purchase it because none of their first party games interest me to that extent but if I was a random consumer I would jump on it because of the good deals.

Recent and upcoming xbone owners should be thanking Sony for stressing the crap out of MS cause if it weren't for them, we wouldn't be seeing all these ridiculously good deals/bundles on the xbone. Instead you might of had to settle with a $500 console and that useless kinect.

Well, looking at Amazon best sellers, It looks like PS4 is back in the lead again. Xbox One price cut is looking a two week temporary fix. With black Friday right around the corner, It looks like PS4 will most likely win November with a huge black Friday to make up for those first two weeks. As far as games go, It's all PS over the next few months. No need to buy Xbox One now and regret it a few months laters by missing out on superior multiplats, larger online community and the quality exclusives like Bloodborne and The Order. PS4 is the smart investment for this holiday. This is just my opinion.

Every PS owner said the same thing about DriveClub and look how that turned out. Even LBP3 has glitches and bugs galore. I'd wait for these titles to come out before declaring them "quality exclusives." And as far as online community, that's really an opinion as the MS multiplayer service has been around longer. Superior multiplats? GTA, Assassin Creed, Diablo, every sports title, all the same on both systems. Earlier multiplatform games were dominate on PS4, but that gap is closing.

I'm afraid this superior multiplat gap is not closing anytime soon. PS4 is the more powerful than Xbox One. If you want the best possible game on consoles, then PS4 is where It's at 99% of the time.

Its not that my ps4 will resent me for it. It will simply be money thrown away because I won't use it. I bought a 360 a few years ago and I hardly even touched it. Like I said the exclusives don't grab my attention so there isn't a point on investing on a second console. If I do invest on one it will simply be on the wii u since most of its content is from first party studios and I can play with my nephews.

fun games out now with more down the road. If you do get one, the new mario kart 8 dlc is a blast to play either with others or by yourself. dont think of it as cheating on the PS4. think of it as playing the field.

STOP USING AMAZON.COM AS A SALES METRIC!!! IT IS ONLY A SMALL PORTION OF TOTAL SALES! i don't care which console is selling more, but Amazon does not substitute for proper market analysis for quick market recaps. you still have best buy, walmart, target, gamestop, indie shops, argo, tesco and thousands more... all of which also over online purchasing.

People are just being really shortsighted. It is like Holiday 2014 is the only thing that matters. What about after that? MS is just desperate so they are throwing everything including the kitchen sink. Unfortunately for them, people are not buying in to it. People are neither buying Xbox One consoles nor its games over the PS4. Almost all of its highly reviewed exclusive games are commercial bombs and lack any solid sales figures. Furthermore, Everybody knows that Microsoft abandons its consoles in a few years just like it happened with the original Xbox and Xbox 360. On the other hand, you keep playing your Playstation consoles for a long time, even after a successor has arrived. PS4 is the smart choice that will pay off for years to come.

To be fair, this is actually their 1st price drop. the unbundling of the kinect represents a sku change with a lower price as a result.

I agree with you on this but I'm also pretty sure you weren't defending Sony in a same manner for dropping stuff away from PS3 (card readers, b/c-chip etc.) last gen to get the price down. All Sony was was desperate right? I wonder what your comment history would reveal regarding this.

You guys are right not to buy an X1. It's tempting but it has none of the IP's that you are looking forward to. You'll regret it down the line when all the Sony IP's come out and you don't have a PS4 to play them on, and had already invested money into the Xbox library,making it hard to turn away from.

I've seen this happen time and time again on the last generation. People flipflopping, selling their consoles, going on forums and complaining, etc. Just save everyone and yourself the hassle and go wtih the console you think suits you the most.

If anything Bloodbourne is the only new and unexpected big AAA exclusive Sony has announced since then. Uncharted is looking more like a 2016 release.

The order doesn't even have an online part to it. It could end up being a great single player game, but once your finished it where do you go next, its a shooter and you can't play with friends afterwards. Games are expensive i want value.

Xbox has done pretty well considering the horrid launch opinions and the cheapness of the thing can't be overlooked (main reason I got one). But there is nothing on there that's more compelling than on ps4. Not saying that ps4 games are more compelling, they are much the same atm. But really it's all down to opinion and I find ps4 more appealing even with owning both. Iv'e had a great year of games with it. The only exclusive for X1 that really appealed to me for the whole year was sunset overdrive which absolutely rocked. I got halo for it but that was more of a must have for when there is a lull in games. I've played em before (except the 4th) and in no hurry to put the hours into them while there are a multitude of other great games coming out. Right now the best games of the gen are available on both consoles or on PC. That's not to knock the fact that people do prefer the X1 over everything else. It's a decent console with some great games on the way and anyone thinking of buying it should definitely take advantage of these offers if they can :)

Uncharted 4 is the only real ps4 exclusive that we know about which I am really looking forward to in 2015 if its delayed it will be a sad year for my ps4. I am not really into that bloodborne type of gameplay and the order seems like another graphics over gameplay at this point from what i seen of it. Just as a sidenote, did anybody inform you of Ori and the Blind Forest and Inside being indie games? Pretty sure Xbox doesn't allow what few first-party developers it has to be so creative. Was under the assumption that all they're good for are dude-pro shooters and cliche punch-lines...maybe the occasional Kinect game from our good friends at Rare. Speaking of Kinect, I wonder how THAT thing is doing in terms of sales? Guess 2.0 is the biggest flop since the Vita seeming as they pretty much took it back and gave it the axe. That leaves you with Halo 5, Fable Legends, and Project Spark as the real non-indie like exclusives for 2015.

If you want to count timed exclusive games, then you should also count No Man's Sky which is the most ambitious game ever (and might not actually be timed exclusive, all we know is it might be). If you're going to include games made by indie developers but are published by MS, like Ori and the Blind Forest then you should also include all of the "indies" I posted up there.

Ori's also on PC, as well as Project Spark. Project Spark is gonna be F2P, so if you're going to include both non-F2P and F2P games that are also on PC in your list of Xbox One games, then you should also count all of the PC games coming to the PS4 but not the Xbox One, like Loadout, Planetside 2, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, etc.

Also, you left out Let it Die, Deep Down, and most importantly, freaking Persona 5.

There's also a few remasters, a few of which are complete overhauls of like Ratchet and Clank and Tearaway Unfolded, then there's Grim Fandango, Shadow of the Beast, etc.

But I'm sure none of this counts, right?

Project Spark is already out, not sure why you're counting that towards Xbox's 2015 list.

I would be surprised if *ALL* of Quantum Break, Halo 5, Fable Legends, Crackdown, and Scalebound come out in 2015. Seems unlikely. None of those are rumored to be dropping any sooner than probably around September of 2015, the chances of all 5 coming out in one holiday period is pretty slim. Even this year, they had Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, and Halo Master Chief Collection. Three AAA games is great for one late year release season, but FIVE would be basically unprecedented.

Inside and Ori and the Blind Forest count for Xbox One, but you won't count any indie or downloadable games for PS4 (of which there are many coming)?

Tomb Raider counts for Xbox One, but not any of the third party games coming to PS4 (Tropico 5, Persona 5, Disgaea 5, and more)?

Phil Spencer knows exactly whats coming out next year, specifically next holiday. He mentioned its not hype its simply allot of 1st party software to release next holiday.

The only logic certain fanboys have is MS not delivering exclusives near the middle end of the gen.

Even that's not very good excuse now considering Phil's game focused road. If Phil is FINALLY expanding its 1st party muscle, something no other MS head has done with Xbox in general why wouldn't he keep up the flow of exclusives?

Obviously he won't release 4 news Ip's near the end but maybe at lest one or two more.

It actually does look like PlayStation 4 will own 2015.

Both consoles have 11 CONFIRMED PS4 Only/Xbox1 Only EXCLUSIVES, but the PS4 will actually have 17 CONSOLE Exclusive games to add to it's library while the Xbox One has only 4 Console exclusive games.

If I was a PS fanboy, I'd be a bit concerned with the quality of the latest and greatest PS exclusives. DriveClub was supposed to be so amazing because the graphics were jaw dropping. "Oh my god, the rain looks SO realistic compared to Forza Horizon 2." But the gameplay is half-a** and filled with bugs and glitches. Meanwhile, LBP3 is suffering from major glitches and bugs also. Not sure I'd get all excited for The Order and Bloodborne. Outside of those titles, not sure PS is going to "own" 2015.

In my opinion, there hasn't been "Greatness" on either console. DR3, Sunset Overdrive, Second Son, Ryse, Titanfall: none of these can hold a candle to the best titles of last gen.

Game like Bioshock 1, Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout 3, Last of Us, Uncharted 2 blew me away last gen... with the exception of remakes we haven't gotten anything near that caliber.

Who's saying that the X1 can't play used games still? Haven't seen that since they reversed their DRM policies. If people still believe it then it's MS fault for having the policy in the first place, not because anyone is going around lying about it.

Also, the lies, as you put it, have lasted a year, and if people aren't interested in the system after that time, then they probably won't be interested in the future. For the most part, people will have made their decisions, it's just a matter of when they're willing to take the actual plunge.

I don't get the article... X1 was always a better option than PS4. All PS4 has is an edge in 1080p while X1 is better in every other way and surprisingly with better games. This will continue to be the case going forward and X1 will rule holiday 2015 with Halo 5, Quantum Break, Fable, Tomb Raider, etc. PS4 will finally have great games in 2015 starting with Bloodborne so should be a very good year for both.

It really boils do the what games you like. So, far PS4 hasn't had anything that has made me want to buy one. The 2014 line up was lackluster with no decent racing game. 2015 doesn't look much better. Bloodborn looks boing, The Order hyped died once people got to see actual gameplay and listing games with no titles is BS. I didn't buy the first 3 uncharted so I'm not looking forward to 4. I also have a PC and played Planetside 2 almost 2 years ago and didn't care for it As a PS3 owner I learned not to trust Sony studio release dates. What from 2014 gives you faith in 2015 and is it fair that a console owner should have to wait 2 years for the "good games" to come out.

i think ps4 has a great 2015 lineup for a lot of people but im personally not that thrilled about it. Bloodbourne looks great but I didn't really love the Dark Souls games and it feels like an extension of that. very niche demographic. The Order looks fantastic graphically but from what I'm hearing its mostly cutscenes with some interactive bits thrown in. no mans sky could go either way with me. I will say I'm definitely looking forward to Uncharted 4 though. I'd love to see some God of War for ps4. The x1 has some pretty interesting titles in 2015 too. Quantum Break looks sweet as does crackdown. lets also not forget about halo5.

At its current price of 350 to 450 including a game it's much more attractive, and I do see the 350-450 price staying. Its cheaper, has no better games and the UI and UE is terrible. I hate using my xbox1 not because I hate the system and think everyone should have a ps4, but because it really isn't user friendly. The homescreen is a mess, trying to find your friends and messages seems nearly impossible.

I just dont enjoy my experience outside of games on xb1. And even the games worth buying (talking pretty much exclusively about Halo) are nearly impossible to play due to it being broken.

Every digital game includes an account license and a device license. The account license allows you to access your game wherever you are logged in, and the device license allows you to designate a console taht can access your catalogue even when you are not logged in (your "home console").

For some people it makes sense to make somebody else's xbox their "home console". But if you already share your main console with your family it is a less practical option.

Great way to split the price of digital games with a friend if you can facilitate it though.

Someone did tell me recently that you can share things 3 ways now by registering 3 home consoles, but if you look at MS's support pages on home console it doesn't support the theory and I can't see any way to do it.

If Gamertag AA buys Forza 5, Gamertag BB can play Forza 5 too on the same X1 as if he owned a separate copy as well. And all game saves and achievements are saved separately for each Gamertag so when Gamertag AA plays it shows he is Level 20 but when Gamertag BB picks up the control and plays it will show him to be Level 5, etc.

What I think he is doing is buying a second X1 console and logging into it under his Gamertag AA, then re-downloading all the games he has bought on the first X1, to the second console. Then with Family Share active his son can log in with Gamertag BB and play all Gamertag AA's games on that second console as if he owns a copy of them. While Gamertag AA can go back to the first X1 and play them all there too.

Infamous, Mario Kart 8 and Titanfall were great but only shorterm fun. There is yet to be an "official" price drop. A Kinectless SKU was released for $100 less. The Holiday $50 price drop was announced as a temporary drop for the Holidays. Most of us have our money on it being permanent, but that's not the "official" word.

Free games are indeed being given away. The only ones upset by this are the hardcore Sony fans that don't think adding value is playing fair. :(

FFXIV has been out since 2008 or 2009. It's available on PS3, PS4 and PC. If you want to count this as a PS4 exclusive it sits at 86. MLB is available on the PS3, PS4 and Vita. It's a platform exclusive also. It's at 83 on Metacritic.

The Last of Us, MLB14 and FFXIV round out the top 3 games released on the PS4 over the past year. They are also all ports of PS3 games. When the top 3 games on the PS4 came directly from the PS3, how excited should you be?

We can debate all day who had the better line up. I'm not going to state my opinion is fact. I wouldn't expect you to do it either. If you bought your PS4 to play PS3 games, along with the exclusives made for the PS4 you had a good year. X1, PS4 and PC gamer here. And I have no issue with saying XB1 had the best exclusives this year. I dont care about all these list people are posting up, most of the games they list are mediocre. Its all good and well listing stuff like planetside 2 (which I play on PC) and H1Z1...but these are average games at best. lets just be honest. More does not equal better.

Halo is the best FPS of 2015...even though its a remaster.

Titanfall has the best MP. Would be halo MCC, if they would hurry up and fix matchmaking.

Forza horizon 2 is the best racer this year. No exceptions.

SSO..well..SSO is just plain brilliant fun. with a killer track record of reviews to back it up.

Killer instinct is arguably the best fighter on current gen consoles.

Super time force was my fave 2D shooter this year. Resogun was fun..but STF has a personality and charm as well as cool gaming mechanics.

And firefall on PC, did 'destiny better than destiny.

Maybe there were more exclusives on PS4. But I would rather have a handful of must haves than 20 mediocre games I wont care about 7 day after purchase.

I can say in this area the tide is changing as far as the interest level and sales. Though that is not directly on topic this is...

The reason for the change, is directly because of three things.
Price
Word of mouth over exclusives
Change in policy, as people are now starting to see MS doing.

This can change over the next few months, but if what I am seeing is any indication, MS is making a great comeback.

One interesting side note... At the midnight release TODAY, of the 70+ people who showed at 11pm, ZERO bought LB3. (One employee did)

I'm glad that XB1 is hitting its stride because I also want them to be successful (more games for me). But I'll be getting the PS4 first this holiday and then an XB1 sometime next year. The only XB1 games that interest me so far are Sunset and Quantum and I'll have plenty to catch up on with PS4.

I've yet to play GTAV, TLOU:R, inFamous:SS, Assassins Creed:BF, Lords of the Fallen, Shadow of Mordor, Watch_Dogs, Destiny, and more coming next year. Yes, I know that many of those are multiplats that are available on both systems but, as I've said, there are only exclusives that interest me so far on XB1 and one of them doesn't even come out until next year.

Yeah it definitely all depends on preference. I owned a PS3 last gen so I played most of those and already and picked up an Xb1 last week. I'm def going to pick up a pS4 when Uncharted 4 comes out.

Sony has one thing going for it and that ability to consistently output at 1080p but even when doing so there are sometimes compromises made to the actual gameplay such as framerate. Even with that the additional resolution over 900p on the Xbox One is marginal at best. I would understand if the PS4 was output games at 2K but it never seems to me that it is actually blowing the doors off the Xbox One in terms of graphics. In that case it is a wash and honestly is not a very big factor for me.

PS4 has the most games but its best games are multiplat titles. I don't buy my console based on multiplats. So for me it comes down to exclusives and I think Sony is not delivering in that area. There are really no must have AAA Sony exclusives outside of TLOU and maybe MLB. The other titles are okay but nothing incredible. I honestly believe Microsoft has Sony beat in just about every gaming genre outside of Japanese titles. I know Sony fans say 2015 is their year but is it really? Microsoft has a slew of very good looking games coming out with several more that are unannounced. I don't think Sony is going to run away with 2015.

PS4 also has many more problems with PSN which is critical for modern online gaming consoles. I need to be connected and I need a reliable service. PSN is not more reliable than XBL, it just isnt.

PS4 also doesn't get nearly the number of substantial updates that enhance games and other functionality as much as the X1.

Xbox One is also cheaper and will probably stay cheaper too. So, if I am a person on the fence you really have to ask yourself this. Do I want a console that promises to deliver or one that is delivering.

Im seeing a lot of posters brag about lineups take dumps on the lineups that other systems have. But i do notice one thing thats true. Its the fact that both systems have great games to play whether multiplat or exclusive. Heck even the Wii U has great games. XB1 hasn't shipped 10million yet, they said 'soon' which could imply weeks from now. Sonys 13.5mil numbers were from the end of septembers financial report. Obviously the numbers should be a lot higher considering retailers ordering stock for the holiday season.

I despise Microsoft. I went through 12 360s even though I didnt play them much. I had two working 360s when Microsoft decided to test a background update on a small minority of users that was designed to brick consoles that had been hacked or opened by someone other than Microsoft. The update was faulty and bricked both of my 360s. They admitted fault but said they were unauthorized to send replacements. I think the 12 360s I went through was probably a record. I didn't even get my first one until late 2008 when the RROD fiasco was already solved.

I ended up purchasing an XB1 in July. I felt guilty doing so because I hate them but I always buy all consoles and my son really wanted to play Garden Warfare and couldn't wait longer. And no surprise here, but it is already malfuntioning, but I haven't sent it in for a repair yet. And I'm sure it is just coincidence but both of my brothers purchased an X1 and both wouldn't turn on right out of the box.

My point is, well I hate Microsoft. But even with my deep rooted hatred when someone asks me what console to buy I have to be honest and I tell them if you want a console to play games on now you have to go with XB1. Sunet Overdriveis my GOTY. There is also Titanfall, Forza's, Garden Warfare timed, and out course Halo. While Sony has released the worst year 1 exclusives in recent console history. I'm a LBP fan and it was my most anticipated game of the year so I am shocked with these subpar reviews. Sony has had an absolutely devastating fall. It goes beyond Drive Club and the other big things people think of. Look at Freedom Wars bombing in the US, Share Play being cut from CoD, and Playstation TV (something I was psyched for) not even including Netflix. And then you take in to consideration that te XB1 cut it's price, bubdled games, and bought Minecraft (I have a 10 year old son. Trust me, it's a big deal to a certain group). What a pathetic fall for Sony.

I'm a one console owner (Xbox One). I only own one console because I really can't imagine finding the time to devote to two consoles and I don't want to pay for two online subscriptions.

I chose the Xbox One because I've always been with Xbox and that is where all my friends are. I have no ill will towards the PS4, however, I find the hate projected at the Xbox One and the "Click-Bait" articles from the media a bit ridiculous.

On the other hand, the blunders of 2013 and the thrashing that MS & the Xbox took from gamers & the media because of it, has actually been a good thing for Xbox gamers. MS has been bending-over-backwards to make Xbox gamers happy and to lure more people to Xbox, which has resulted in nothing but great games, great updates, and great service.

As far as exclusives for 2015 are concerned, I'm not going to make a list or compare Sony vs. MS. All I know is, my wallet already hurts, and Phil Spencer said that they have so many new games coming, there isn't enough room in 2015 for all of them.

Most remarkable comeback? Not even close. Your buying into the marketing machine here. Recently MS announced as a result of the price cut sales are up 300% this November! Wow huge comeback! What they don't tell you is that every year since 2011 they have sold 300%+ more in November! It is the holidays! Actually the lowest in 4 years thus far has been 328% which puts this year on the bottom of 4 years of console sales! Of course Microsoft is going to run this data out to the media to send that message that says we are selling so people like you right this article and sends the message hey it's ok to buy one everyone else is! I own all 3 consoles but seriously you have to put this stuff in perspective and this article is very misleading. They are no where near out of the hole they dug for themselves. Instead they are experiencing a annual console sale bump that is so far less average than the last 4 years.

Pure click bait article. MS decide to reduce the price of the Xbox One making it cheaper than PS4 during holidays season and giving away Sunset Overdrive, Call of Duty, Assassin Creed for free and you guys did not expect a crazy sale boost. As soon as the boost was over MS PR quickly went out claiming they have won now the US and only the US two weeks in a row, while PS4 is still selling better worldwide. I can't wait for those next shipment numbers post holidays.

I can't believe this debate is still happening after a friggin year has passed!! This must be an episode of twilight zone or something. Seriously though, they are both great consoles with great exclusives. I have been thoroughly enjoying both, as well as the wiiu. Just as a side note; I play most of my games on Xbox....why you ask?? The ps4 has the noisiest fan EVER!! Drives me friggin nuts!! Maybe I just have a faulty one as I haven't heard any other complaints about it. Regardless, most of my cross plats are on Xbox and the difference I have noticed between 1080 and 900p are negligible IMO

Good to see XB1 catching up. Competition is always healthy. The fact is that this Christmas' biggest games (COD, Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed) have historically been franchises associated with the XBox brand, so it's getting a lot of help from that. But Sunset Overdrive, a new IP, is also getting both good reviews and sales.

I'm a PS guy, always have been, but the better the XBox brand does, the better the PS brand needs to do to keep up, so we all win

Of course this is just your opinion right? I still don't see any facts to back up this statement. However, if true this could be very good for the PS4. I am a Playstation fan and I do think MS is the scourge of not only the video game industry but also computers in general, but competition is good for any industry. Now only if MS would actually compete rather than trying to buy their way into everything. Do something MS because right now your idea of competition is trying to force companies to compete with their wallets rather than ingenuity, dedication, imagination and ideas or a better product.
