Destiny Beta - PS4 vs Xbox One vs PS3 vs Xbox 360 Mega Comparison

With the beta available on all four platforms, Jim and Dave went back for another comparison. See how last-gen and current-gen Xboxes and Playstations compare below - we'd recommend setting the video to 1080p and watching it fullscreen, obviously.

I agree where he said.... "they were surprised about how good it looks on the 360."

It did look good... same with Titanfall for 360 TBH.

Let's just 180 a bit and recall how the PS4 is supposed to be 50% better?

The visual fidelity is more or less the same... with a slight edge going to PS4.
The difference is a wash.

End all this multiplat comparison malarky... I can understand FPS is relatively important, but not the be all and end all.

I lost a lot of hours to games like Super Smash Bros, Goldeneye, FF7, Pokemon Blue, Duke Nukem, X wing, Sim City... etc... Hell... even had a Commadore 64!

Resolution and FPS is overrated.

Good games are where it's at.

souga_houjou_jin3565d ago

you want to isee a diff between ps4-xbo ?

wait till the 1st party studios work
uncharted, the order already piss all the xbox games to date and even xbox titles thats coming in 2-3years from now

stop comparing multi and compare 1st party
any xbox game looking better than killzone, uncharted 4,the order ? exactly none

mixolydian_id3564d ago

Uncharted, The order?
They're not even released games right?

The only footage available is the Transformers standard CGI, shown at E3.

I could say Quantum Break and Halo 5... but they too are baked CGI trailers.

Both consoles will have their games downgraded during optimisation before release.

I bet you haven't played any of the games I listed above?

Mix, Uncharted 4 was running in real-time on a PS4, they confirmed that after the show, and I think even had a caption to that effect while the footage was rolling.

The Order has been demoed several times using in-game footage. Most recently was at E3 with the werewolf segment. Someone was playing that, even though the whole thing looked like an actual movie.

y7jzdgy3564d ago

Even though you ignore the existence of Ryse the rest of the Internet doesn't. Uncharted 4 and The Order aren't even out yet btw.

"Let's just 180 a bit and recall how the PS4 is supposed to be 50% better?

The difference is a wash. "

Maybe because they already confirmed that the PS4 and X1 versions are basically being held back due to last gen version and them wanting to have parity across the board?

"The only footage available is the Transformers standard CGI, shown at E3. "

UC4 was confirmed in-game, even though yes, it was a cutscene technically.

The Order been demoed several times already

Boody-Bandit3564d ago

Even though Naughty Dog blurs the line so thin between cut scenes and the actual in-game engine that you sometime find yourself wondering why they stopped talking and than realize, oh the cut scene is over.

I seriously can't tell you how many times I got caught up in the cut scenes and didn't realize I was in control of Drake again. That and ND said what they showed at E3 is not what they are shooting for visually. Yet they are shooting beyond that. So what they showed as their "cut scene" might actually be surpassed when the actual game is completed.

Naughty Dog, unlike most other devs and publishers, doesn't fudge what they are trying to accomplish.

Visiblemarc3564d ago

Resolution and fps is overrated???

No, just no.

Games and gameplay are obviously the most important and I can still enjoy old technologically impaired games that are fun.

But resolution improvements are an amazing advancement and seriously improve gaming.

More importantly, high framerate not only improves user comfort and immersion, but in many cases radically effects playability of a game, therefore is directly connected to gameplay.

mixolydian_id3564d ago

I do appreciate FPS... it is a much smoother visual.

but 30FPS isn't so bad as everyone makes out. I'd settle for 48FPS... (double youtube frame speed) and never bat eyelid.

Resolution is a strange thing.

(Quote from the web)
1920 x 1080 = about 2.2 mp
1280 x 720 = just under 1 mp
640 x 480 = about 0.3 mp

iPhone camera's take 8mp shots... considered to be standard in the industry I guess.

I'd rather 720p.... with a game that is 4x the size/length, using the very forefront of graphical effects.

THAT my friend, is why this resolution/FPS debacle is laughable.

It doesn't constitute a great deal to a good game. The game exists for itself.

If you want VR, immersion, super high resolution and graphical detail... put on your shoes and go outside!

If you're the arty type... why not visit an art gallery?
Love FPS? Go to a theme park.
Love those linear games that require next to no thought to overcome? Visit the cinema and see a real visual spectacle.

Go on, take your visual acuity for a spin sometime... ;)

"Let's just 180 a bit and recall how the PS4 is supposed to be 50% better?"

People who keep bringing up the 50% thing really need to get a handle on what it means. It doesn't mean looking at two images or videos and seeing a 50% difference between them. It's based on numbers that describe what the hardware is capable of. PS4's hardware is stronger. We've already seen it and we will keep seeing it, but many multi plat devs will go for parity just like they did last generation. Of all devs, it should surprise no one that Bungie would go for parity.

MattE3564d ago

This perception of 50% more power is nonsense.. what was actually said was that PS4 was 50% faster to develop for.

PS4 is likely to be about 10-15% more powerful in real terms.. end product.

There is a ceiling and xb1 will get closer to it further down the line.. PS4 will probably hit it quicker but stagnate at that point.

People who get excited about unlimited power from sonys console clearly have no idea what is inside the box

Doesn't really matter what the Xbox version looks like when Playstation is getting exclusive content first.

iistuii3564d ago

I can make my own judgement now that I've played both. I have a PS4 & have leveled up to 8 & will definitely buy it when it's released. However I played on the Xbox One version & at no time did it feel any different or look any worse for that matter.

stiggs3564d ago (Edited 3564d ago )

I appreciate the effort put forth by these individuals. Unfortunately, their obvious bias toward the PS4 seems to have influenced their testimonial.

The commentators on this video go out of their way to state that the "PS4 is on top, definitely. It's quite obvious".

I don't take issue with this assessment. The PS4 is a very capable machine and should potentially produce better results than the less powerful XBOX One (especially in 1080 to 900 comparisons).

But immediately after trumpeting the superiority of the PS4 version of Destiny they are at a loss to explain why they have come to that conclusion. They certainly can't seem to lock down a solid answer (other than a brightness/contrast difference)

The initial claim is that "The PS4 stands out, it is the best version". Yet seconds later they admit that their assessment is nothing more than vague conjecture. "I can't put my finger on it... There's something different...I can't quite tell".

So, is there a real difference in these beta versions or are these gentlemen just trying really hard to find one?

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter333d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell332d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig333d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast333d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g333d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka333d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai484d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface483d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
