My Slight Concerns About Destiny

One of the writers from IM PLAYIN talks about some of his slight concerns over Destiny, before playing the Beta on the Xbox One

"My biggest worry about this game is whether it’s just going to be a Halo clone. I wouldn’t say ‘Halo ripoff’, just because Bungie are making it and they are Halo all over. I’m probably one of the few Xbox 360 and One owners that isn’t overly fussed by the Halo series. I played Halo 3 and thought it was alright… ODST wasn’t too bad, I guess. But I just never really got into it. It’s probably because I’m a history geek, so I like my action FPS games to be historically accurate (ish), well, at least historically based. The look of the game is very ‘Halo’, even the front cover looks like it’s featuring a cloaked Master Chief from the Halo 5 teaser video. To me, Destiny looks like the lovechild of Halo and Mass Effect, with a bit of Borderlands thrown in there for good measure. In theory, that should be one hell of a game. I just worry that we might have see...

Lawd have mercy! If you haven't even played it yet...PLAY IT!

Never got much into Halo, but I see similarities, and people on N4G with lots of Halo experience say the similarities are positive. The Borderlands comparison I agree with, but again in a positive way, and only in the fact that I'm playing cooperatively with friends and drooling over new loot..again a positive.

are these clowns even in the Beta or are they just running off at the mouth. If you have such DEEP CONCERNS then join the Beta.

OBVIOUSLY with Destiny being made by Bungie you will see some similarities to HALO.

I mean seriously NO ONE complains of The Last of Us and Uncharted having all kinds of similarities.

Fallout 4/New Vegas and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II have similarities as both are Developed by Obsidian

So basically get over it as Developers have styles that cross over to all their games.

My biggest concern is Bungies double-speak about whether this game is coming to PC or not.
http://www.gamespot.com/art...

If its not coming to PC, thats fine, but it seems like a constant tease. I would rather Bungie say its not worth it for PC and move on rather than the back and forth.

Grave3565d ago

I have a feeling they are going to try to do what Rockstar did with GTA V. Get that double-dip cash yo. That's why they are playing coy. If they said it was going to come on next year on PC then I wouldn't even consider the purchase on my PS4. When/if it comes out on PC I'll get it again and play that version as well. So they'll get me twice.

CloudRap3565d ago

Every game that comes out theres always some entitled dbag who's gonna have a problem with it.

Next....

aliengmr3565d ago

So Destiny is perfect and saying otherwise, even having "slight" concerns, makes you an "entitled dbag"?

Do you get a T-shirt when you're that much of a fanboy?

My only issue so far is all the stuff I'm getting that I have no idea what to do with.. Oh wait, that's a good thing. Can't wait for the full release so I can see what some of these materials are for.

Bungie Replaces Marathon Director Amid Leadership Shakeup, Fears of Layoffs

Amid ongoing anxiety within Bungie following layoffs last year, the studio is now preparing for another shakeup, this time on Marathon.

Kaii37d ago

Layoffs should be hitting the incompetent management at this point.

Profchaos37d ago

Talk about mismanaged Bungie is a studio of tremendous potential and have made some of the greatest shooters to date. Sony pushed them to just make another Destiny style game and consult on other studios live service games and are now getting thrown under a bus as the pivot away from predominantly gaas games is unfolding.

I'd love to see a world where Bungie can focus on telling great sci fi stories again away from a live service dungeon but we all know that's a pipe dream

Rynxie37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Are you serious? Do you just talk out of your arse naturally, or did it take years of being a POS?

Profchaos37d ago

You normally get so offended by internet comments or did it take years of being soft

purple10137d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Yes I see your point mate, someone clearly didn’t read the article.

Specifically the bit:

“Notably, multiple sources at the time and since have shared that Sony has largely left the studio to sort out its own troubles and was not responsible for the layoffs, with CEO Pete Parsons taking responsibility.“

He’s just spouting nonsense

Huey_My_D_Long37d ago

lol what so fucking hilarious is that you called him out so bad he projected him being offended onto you.

Its been well documented that Bungie's management has been more responsible for their shortfalls, even mentioned in said article that we are commenting on.

Its ok, just admit you didn't read the article.

Arrowhead Studios will be Sony’s GaaS consult now.

Gameseeker_Frampt37d ago

I like how for some, it is never Bungie's fault. Microsoft, Activision, and now Sony - it is everyone else who is pushing Bungie to make all these bad decisions.

-Foxtrot37d ago

Thrown under the bus?

Are you joking? This is all Bungie, we all thought it was 100% Activision but it's clear the higher ups at Bungie don't have a clue how to run the studio and are more bothered about saving their own skin and the money that they rake in.

Sony gave them an extra $1.2 Billion to make sure that employees didn't leave and they didn't have to cut anyones jobs. Where did that money go because Bungie still cut peoples jobs and I bet you the higher management still kept a hold of their big fact paychecks and bonuses.

Sony invested poorly in this and the best thing they can do now is throw the old Bungie management out and take hold of the studio fully.

MIDGETonSTILTS1737d ago

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Somebody at Bungie is the golden goose making great shooting mechanics, and the rest need to justify their paychecks.

This studio has had three owners and its never worked well with any of them....Management has issues

ChasterMies37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Worked very well for Microsoft. Microsoft’s mistake was letting Bungie go.

Fearmonkey36d ago

it worked so well with MS that they so wanted to be away from them they bought the company back. Only to do it again with activision-blizzard, and then sold to Sony...Sony shouldn't have bought them...Bungie hasnt been the same for a long time..

As someone who bought every story DLC for DESTINY 2 but not every season. the first thing I would do as game director is , if anybody pre-orders The ?Final Shape , they will be able to play all older DLC and seasons with purchase of FINAL SHAPE. . I think that would bring back a lot of DESTINY 2 plsyers who have not experienced the seasons a chance to play season activities before Final Shape comes out.

DickyD122685d ago

I agree but I was just able to get all dlcs for 50 on steam. (Have it on PlayStation but don't always have access to the TV)
