PS4 DualShock 4 Smartphone Attachment Clip Released, Letting You Bypass Those Awful Touch Controls

The DualShock 4 is compatible with pretty much everything you attach it to, including smartphones, but holding the controller and your favorite phone together may be a little awkward.

The Japanese manufacturer Spec Computer decided to help that situation, and just released a contraption that securely attaches the smartphone on top of the DualShock 4, letting you use one of the best controllers in the market to bypass those awful touch controls.

Can you connect the Dualshock 4 to an iPad?
@ Abriael: Sweet, I've got a new project!

Abriael3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

You can. It requires a bit of work if I'm not wrong unlike Android. Not sure this thing can hold something as big as a pad, tho.

miyamoto3578d ago

I can't help but wonder why Sony themselves have no official initiative to do something like this to unify all their products with PLayStation.

Like what is Sony doing????

WildArmed3578d ago

@miya

Sony isn't that huge of a company (unlike giants like Google, etc). The videogame portion is doing really well ATM, and it's probably a delicate balance from them to how to invest the money while maintaining profit. If they had spare assets, I'm sure they'd go for it.

GHOSTxx4203579d ago

I'm wondering the same thing, it'd be cool to play iPad games with the ds4

lemoncake3578d ago (Edited 3578d ago )

If you have a jailbroken device you can use a program called controller 4 all, works great but would love to have a mount like this for the iPad Air if my wrists could support it though that is another question.

Summons753579d ago

Awful touch controls or not Cellphone games are still awfully designed and generally aren't games are horrible ports of amazing games (poor souls on those games :( )...a controller isn't going to save the mobile market.

hkgamer3579d ago

mobile market doesn't need aaving. =P

though i know what you mean. we will probably never get a game that actually needs a controller.

JBSleek3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

Mobile market certainly doesn't need to be saved. Also I don't think many mobile games are ports as most are games you wouldn't find elsewhere.

Many people down mobile games here but many are good time passers such as 2048, Plants vs Zombies 2, VVVVV, Threes, Clash of Clans.

People enjoy them quite a bit. They aren't for everyone but no need to shit on them if they aren't your cup of tea.

InTheLab3579d ago

Take away the swipe gimmick and these games are terrible. Who would disagree with that?

magekyou3579d ago

I would, and many game designers would.
You still think of games as triple A stuff with conplex 3d movement and multiple actions. The game 2048 proved that you only need a good game mechanic and a good objective, and you have a game.

2048 is a game, so is Solitaire, so is Duet. And they are GREAT games from a game design point of view. Just cuz its not YOUR type of game doesnt make them any less viable. Any game designer learn that.

I remember I went to a presentation by Nicholas Fortugno, in which he handed everyone a piece of paper of a different color. During his presentation, he gave only one objective : Go and hang out with people who have the same colour as you do. We then spent 10 minutes trying to find those who had the same colour as us, and trying to regroup in a spot with everyone else, fusing with other smaller groups. He then told us "I gave you guys one piece of a paper and a sentence. It all it required for you to have fun during 10 minutes".

Don't dismiss what you don't like.

Mithan3579d ago

You have no clue what you are talking about. Action games can suck, but there are plenty of fun games on the mobile stores for people to play.

raptorjacob3578d ago

Mobile games suck. I download for road trips and airplane. I usually delete them shortly after.

Kavorklestein3579d ago

Dude. How Bout Nes, Snes, N64, PS1, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo DS on your smartphone? That's what I do!

There are even working on getting Dolphin emulators on the phones, and I tried a beta for it, and it WORKS! They are still working on getting it to be more stable. etc.. but ALL the Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii games, Like smash brothers, or Super Mario Galaxy, on your Smartphone?
Only the dumbest fools in the world would dismiss how awesome bluetooth controllers with phones/tables are.

There is even rumor of PS2 coming to android.
Shadow of the Colossus!

As far as Mobile games, Dead Trigger 1&2 work with bluetooth, and shadowgun deadzone does too, and that's Like a portable Gears of War game!

Don't knock it if you haven't found out how to find and play the best games, with OR without a bluetooth controller.

LamerTamer3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

The main issue will be when running emus your phone battery will last you like 15 minutes.

Gamecube? It really doesn't run great on mobile yet, it may work but not that smooth. PS2 is a dream too.

The others run well though. I have all of those emus including Dreamcast Running great on My Nvidia Shield. The Shield has massive batteries which is needed to run emus well and at full speed and run the pretty loud stereo speakers. Phones will throttle down the CPU as to not burn up the battery or fry the CPU, they get hot. The Shield has a mini fan in it as well so it can run full speed without overheating or being throttled down.

There are some decent Android games, Half Life 2 looks pretty good on it.

You need to worry about input lag too. I tried one of these blue tooth controllers and the input lag was like 1/2 second, many Samsung phones have crap BT drivers. There are limits but I guess this thing could be good in some cases.

'Controller isn't going to save the mobile market'

Keep up fella, something is releasing this year, it's PS branded and works on many different platforms... It will start out on the Vita/PS3/PS4 and some Bravia TVs but will eventually spread to Blu-ray players, Laptops, pads and (ahem) PHONES. Have you guessed what it is yet?

joeorc3578d ago

Omg, really? With a bluetooth game pad GTA:San Andreas plays like the living room game console on my kyocera torq. So what ever man. I know what im talking about. I doubt if you have even done that.

s45gr323578d ago

Who knows next year or two gamers might see smartphone games on par to what these next-generation consoles offer.

hkgamer3579d ago

the biggest problem is that android games are not that great. think most people would be thinking about emulation

Abriael3579d ago

I'm actually thinking about trying it for the Vita. The way it attaches seems like it could hold one comfortably.

hkgamer3579d ago

can you play vita with a ps4 controller?

C-H-E-F3579d ago

Why even get a handheld if you're going to play it with a controller? LMFAO

TheUndertaker853579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

@C-H-E-F: Why not? The PSP Go officially supported it via Bluetooth. You could also use your DualShock 3 during Remote Play with other PSPs.

Very handy if you had an output cable for the PSP Go in particular.

BISHOP-BRASIL3579d ago

I personally didn't adapt well to Vita (and portables in general make me very uncomfortable to play), but one of those cheap chinese grips for Vita improved the thing for me A LOT and they are way cheaper (although also mess up with portability) than an actual controller. Mine looks just like this:

bjmartynhak3578d ago

C-H-E-F,

Because the Vita is not comfortable for everyone. Not for me at least. I got a grip for myself, but it is not enough to be perfect.

Debaitable3579d ago

There is PSX and even PSP emulation. It's nice but I'm at the point where I like to move forward in gaming, not backwords.

shadowsmoke363579d ago

You and I bot i think everyone would love to go forward but when most of the ideas are already out and when nothing comes or shows people like you complain and you do it alot. Nothing wrong with going back especially in the case of the ps2 where almost half didn't see the day of light on the ps3. Ps2 had the best library and thats no exaggeration either. Many of those games would sell boat loads on the ps4. We as people need something to buy us time until something new comes out or we would hit a dead wall and nothing would release and people would be even angrier so next time think about the whole picture before you speak.

SteamPowered3578d ago

Grand Theft Autos, Half Life 2, Conduit, Final fantasies beg to differ. I Play these games all the time on my Nvidia Shield and they are great. I also use it for some emulators, but check out Google play and you will be surprised at the quality and quantity. They made me a believer...

hkgamer3578d ago

they shield games or google play games?

i maybe wrong but doesnt ios have more console ported games?

SteamPowered3578d ago

HKgamer- They are Google Play games you buy in the store just like any other. The shield simply maps the buttons for you and adds a kick ass touch screen. It makes those crappy cell phone games more than playable. And if you run NVidia GPU at home, you can stream your full pc games to shield for portable perfection.

Guru0073579d ago

Yes you can use the Dualshock 4 with the Vita. You have to setup another user account.

Does the attachment work with the VITA?

PS4 Gets Qi Compatible Inductive Wireless Charger to Help With Your DualShock 4's Battery

The DualShock 4′s battery has always been under fire for its arguably short battery life, and a lot of implements have been created to mitigate the problem.

The Japanese manufacturer SPEC Computer is taking its turn with its removable battery receiver for PS4.

This is awesome but I'd like it even more if it were just built in with a stock ds4 with no clip on part.

Lazyeye793476d ago

That would be really nice, but this is a nice alternative, having it charge all day and then just grabbing it without having to worry about the cable is a nice feature.

My girlfriend never looks to see if it is plugged in and often just grabs it, gets it yanked out of her hands, and dropping it on the floor.

iagainsti1203476d ago (Edited 3476d ago )

lol @ inveni0 bubs for you.

Sonital3476d ago

I really would welcome charging plates where I can stick my iPod, phone, tablets, controllers, headphones etc before bed and then it's all ready to go the next day.

counselorterry3476d ago

I'm giving you a bubble just for your avatar.

ramiuk13476d ago (Edited 3476d ago )

i bought the offical charge dock and u leave it plugged in all time with pads on as it has a curcuit cut of built in so draws no power when pads full.

i have never had an issue since as every time i go to play there full and if u gaming for longer than 6/8 hours u needhelp in other areas of life imo.

Problem solved with $30 small chargeable USB battery charger. Got a 13000Mah pack on Newegg for $27 and it will recharge the controller 3 or 4 times before needing to recharge the battery on the power outlet. Or while you aren't playing just plug the battery and controller into ps4. It also can sit in my lap and charge while I play.

RosweeSon3476d ago

Yeah it is a really short battery life but luckily they include charge cables these days ;) 8 hours isn't enough tho that it for sure needs to be doubled at least to 16-20 if not a full 24 hours please.

OculusRift3476d ago

My DS4 last like 7 hours. What's wrong your controllers?

GunsAndTheBeast3476d ago

overcharged probably losing the battery full capacity
