Sony Is Asking for Beta Testers for PS4 System Software Update 5.50

Looks like the next major PS4 system software update is getting close, as Sony Interactive Entertainment is starting to recruit beta testers.

Suspend and Resume - Check ✔️
Folders - Check ✔️
Appear offline - Check ✔️
Media player - Check ✔️

What else there that desperately needs to be there that isn't?

Actually after the last update I'm really happy, I just wanted the system responsive, like menu not dragging and being able to go to friends invite or messages or scroll friends list with out the system slowing or freezing up... And they nailed it..

System is super fast now on my PS4 pro and feels great... really happy with everything right now.. It's been amazing

So as long as we don't lose this performance they can add whatever they want, (name changing, Stability, better game saves to cloud, whatever) but I'm really happy with the system right now

Plus PlayStation mention that 2018, they will be adding PSN gamertag name change so hopefully is in the Beta test.

I'd personally love to see PlayTv become compatible with the PS4 and for them to bring PlayStation Home back. They are the only things missing that I can think of or care about now. They have done everything else.

Those things have no where near the requests the ones I mentioned.

Nothing on that list Screams to me "oh yeah that's a stand out must have feature" most of them are cool, but nothing special.

Now one feature i want is to allow us players to select all and remove friends ... I have a bunch people who never turns up online, like over months now so to delete them i have to go to their profile and delete them and again start from right at the top and scrolling down... takes a lot of time... So a "select all and delete" options should be there to make things easier...

Problem is they've done almost everything people have asked for. PSN ID changes is pretty much the last "Major" thing. The rest is just small stuff.

And BC support isn't a firmware thing, so let's leave that out of it.

They've been pretty good this gen imo. They've actually had some features day one that other consoles are just now getting. You won't hear much about that fact though.

The last time i did this beta software test it bricked my PS4 (original) HDMI outputs quit working, then the ps4 starting getting white light of death. I'm not saying this will happen to anyone on this one, but make sure yall know that Sony say that we are liable for anything that happens to the PS4 with beta software. Luckily the PS4 Pro came out 2 months later and I was able to ebay the PS4 original and get 300$ for it (bundled with all(12) of these old games). Just really be careful using and signing up for this. I will only accept official patches/updates.

their were rumors last update that a lot of work was done that we don't know about behind the scenes for future updates.

3. Download speeds are fine... my PS4 consistently shows 100-150Mbps (sometimes higher) download speed whenever I check. And that's consistent with the level of internet I pay for with my ISP.

7. Boost mode works just fine - it's only meant to stabilize the frame rate on games that don't already have Pro enhancements. Boost mode isn't meant to increase the resolution/textures or anything like that.

1. Update the framework so that the UI and menus are customizable. Then they don't have to change it themselves anyway. Everyone's PS4 will look like their own.
3. What your PS4 shows on network tests is not the actual speeds you're getting from PSN.

3. Yeah, it is. My PS4 downloads games that are 20-40 GBs in minutes. Also, they fixed the problem of it not displaying the correct numbers (it would often show 10-20Mbps when you where actually getting closer to your ISP speed if it was higher than that).

Not with PS3, but there's no reason we don't shouldn't have access to PS1 games we bought from the store on PS3, or even PS2 emulation. I think with the "amazing forward thinking game changing" backward compatibility on Xbox One, and with the x86 standard now, it's a foregone conclusion that PS5 will play PS4 games, but hopefully it's powerful enough to emulate PS3 too.

If it appeared at all, it wouldn't be reliant on the current firmware. That's akin to saying that every video game must get updated with every firmware because the firmware dictates the capabilities of each software tool.

BC via software relies on software encapsulation, which is an app that contains the original software from PS2/PS1 or 360/XBO, and runs the framework necessary to run the software on the current platform. Think of it as a virtual server, if you know what that is. The virtual server can be of any previous version to match any necessary software requirements (used often for legacy systems), but it runs on a current model server itself.

I would like just a little more flexibility on what I see and what I don't. For example, I would love to be able to move folders and the "what's new" tile. I personally NEVER look at the contents of it, and it's front and center.

Sony have implemented a lot of features that was asked.

The other 2 things I would like is for them to allow the option to purchase a game for a friend as a gift much like what steam does, and to allow the ability to change PSN name.

And finally I'm in the minority here, but I actually still prefer the old PSN store used during the early days of the PS3's lifecycle. It was quick, concise, and responsive.

Lastly I wished Sony improves and work on is the download speed from PSN when downloading games.
