Yeah, the thing about it. I know alot of xbox gamers are psyched about the "scorpion", but if you look at how Microsoft has shifted all 1st party games on the platform to be PC compatible it's like they are preparing for a close down of the studio if this last effort doesn't work. I mean it's really ironic how Microsoft was looking to sell and then all of a sudden they stopped talking about it. However the Xbox One is doing well in regards to the brand itself, but the money lost from selling the xbox one at it's current price isn't good. I see them for 299 now and it came out at 499. They never changed any internals and were making about 40-80 bucks a console. Now they are selling at a loss. The only thing keeping the division alive is it's software and they don't have much of that. When I say that I mean, their first party games are on PC there's no need to own an xbox if you are a PC gamer.

I've never seen an XBOX One without a price cut. I bought the launch system for $500 and last week GS wouldn't give me $90 for it? Each to their own but personally I don't see anything on the XB1 lineup that even remotely makes me want to purchase an XBox (be it XB1 or the S). At one stage I was interested in Scalebound but the videos of the gameplay and the voice acting has really put me off. As for "Sea of Thieves" I am fairly lukewarm with that.

The so-called big three (Halo, Gears of War and Forza) I have no interest whatsoever.

Exclusives for your preferred platform are nice and I do have three out of fifteen so far for my PS4 with the majority of games being multiplatform.

If the games for the Neo are going to backwards and forwards compatible then the main features of the Neo will be pretty much what the XBoneS will have and that is a 4K Bluray player and HDMI 2 or better. Sure the Neo may have a little more power than the PS4 but I can't see developers making use of that power when there would be well over 40 million potential sales on the PS4.

If the Neo comes out this year to compete with the XBoneS then what I have just said will be fairly correct. I very much doubt that the Neo will even bother to compete with the XBox Scorpio which is slated to come out in about 16 ~ 17 months.

If you aline the launches, the PS3 consistently out sold the 360 WW, it wasn't really a come back, just a late start. It also took years for Sony catch up with a 8-9 million lead, an over 20 million one would take decades.

Sony overcame a one year headstart by always selling better than 360 worldwide. They often lost NPD, but still gained ground everywhere else. At no point after the release of the PS3, was the sales disparity between the PS3 and 360 anywhere close to 2:1, even in the US.

Sony didn't make a comeback, they simply overcame the advantage that MS gained by having a year head start. it's not like Sony did something halfway through the generation which allowed them to suddenly sell twice as many consoles as before to make a come back((actually 3-4X more since 360 continued to sell)....which is what you are suggesting will happen for MS.

Thinking through it historically, I can't think of a single console which managed to make an actual come back, and more often than not, the one that takes the early lead, "wins" the generation. MS managed to keep in the race throughout all of last gen, but they never had such a commanding lead over PS3 that it couldn't be overcome. After 2-1/2 years, the disparity between consoles is more than twice the number of consoles that MS had on the market with the 360 when the PS3 released, and the PS3 saw an extremely limited release worldwide. When Sony released the PS3, it was the hot new thing....that won't be the case for the X1S, and while the Scorpio could show some positive momentum, the disparity is going to be much greater, and Sony is likely to have an even greater lead due to the Neo and their own slim.

There is no come back for MS. They'd have to sell twice as many consoles each month in the next 2-1/2 years just to catch up, and they'd still only catch up if Sony completely stopped selling PS4's, or dropped significantly in sales. That isn't going to happen, and even if it does, the generation will be almost over by then, and we'll be making our way to the next gen, where everything resets. Current console sales are not increasing month to month, they've remained pretty consistent for Sony and MS throughout the gen after launch.

So MS, in order to catch up, actually has to get the people buying a PS4, to instead buy an X1. If they haven't managed to do that in 2-1/2 years, I can't imagnie what they could do to start now. Games aren't working. Features aren't working. Claiming "best line up" isn't working. The chance new hardware manages to do it is pretty slim.

Anyhow, in response to your comment which was flagged above about how people have been clamoring for a slim all gen. No, that's not going to fix MS lack of sales in comparison to the PS4. The problem isn't the look of the system. The whole thing about looks is just some fan boy nonsense. The majority of consumers don't care one bit about the look. MS problems run deeper than the design of the console case.

That wasn't even the argument that you were making that I was replying to, so not sure why you decided to change track.

How are you like MisterX? Well, you keep saying how MS is going to catch up, or overcome by using whatever PR MS happens to release at the time. If Halo couldn't change the tide, Gears won't even make a ripple. The Slim will probably be enough to win a month or 2, but it won't make up anywhere near enough to change anything either. The Scorpio is over a year away, the PS4 (with a Neo boost) will be so far ahead by then, there's no way the Scorpio could make up for it.

I think it's time the few who think Xbox One can come back and beat the PS4, accept it can't and move on, like MS did.

At the moment the 4K market is still small in comparison to the HD market and it was only in February 2015 that the 4K (three-layer) Bluray standard was ratified so it is not real surprise that there is now a market for 4K Bluray so basically this is an area that the XB1-s and the Neo are going to target.

We even know that Sony has asked developers not to develop games for the Neo that won't play on the PS4 and no developer would be stupid enough not to develop for a potential market of well over 40 million PS4's.

What is going to be interesting in the next few year is the 8k market which has only just started and in a few years will most likely sideline the 4k market.

As an aside I do remember XBox fanboys stating that the power brick was not a big deal, now it seems that the XB1-s having an inbuilt power supply which the Playstation has had since inception is just like the second coming. 😉

Yeah, for those concerned about the style of the system, and the placement of the power supply, I think Sony already got them to buy into their system. Such an important segment of the market, and Sony recognized it from the beginning. Obviously, that is why Sony has done so well so far, because it was the only altrenative for next gen for a console with style, and an internal power supply.

WiiU had some style, but damn that external power brick. If only Nintendo had had more forethought, they could be a major contender this gen by getting the year head start on the stylish, power brick consumers which make up a significant portion of the market.

I could see some consoles sales for those looking for a UHD player. While the stand alone players will be cheaper by this holiday, they'll likely still be the same price as the slim consoles(assuming Sony does something similar to MS) and there is added value to having a game console as well. Sony might have the upper hand there though if they launch this holiday. Those looking for content won't be oblivious to how good a player the PS3 was...and even still is today...because they might have been the same people buying into bluray early 10 years ago. It really is quite remarkable just how good a blu-ray player the PS3 is even by today's standards.

I know the PS4 has been rockin the sales and it really hasn't been unexpected, I followed the Amazon link that uptownsoul posted and it showed the PS4 out selling the XBoxOne pretty handily, I then re-checked the sales and saw the XBoxOne out selling the PS4. http://www.amazon.com/best-...
The XBoxOne in the current best selling list when I checked this was number 10,14,18,26, and 31 with the first PS4 console coming in at number 38. I think it's best to remember that the Amazon lists are pretty fluid and if your using them to make a point they can change pretty rapidly, just wait a few minutes, lol.

Problem with those lists, particularly when looking at pre-orders or newly released products, is that the stuff that just goes up for pre-order, or is just released gets a huge spike in sales due to just becoming available. That pushes it further to the top, because the lists aren't looked at over a long term, but rather, taking a products past sales, which in some cases can be zero, then calculating it against what it is now. It's not unusual for new products to jump to the front, only to go back down within a few hours, or a few days.

The only way to really use the lists to track how well something is selling overall, is to look at it over a period of time, so you can see the spikes and trends to find a marginal result.

If a product consistently sees itself at the top of the list, or ahead of other products, and then one day is at the top, it doesn't mean that it's selling more than the other overall, just that there is a surge on orders. If that product remains at the top of those lists, then it's selling better than the other, or at least keeping up.

As great as the Scorpio specs sound, not a lot of gamers will migrate from the Ps4 to the xbox brand unless there's are major software releases that will lead that migration. Judging from E3, aside from scalebound and two other notable titles ( I don't recall what they are), there are no game changing software releasing for the xbox brand because their first party studios arent churning them out like Sony's. Just my humble opinion.

I do like RPG's and initially Scalebound held my interest until I actually saw gameplay then that interest was lessened considerably (IMHO that voice acting was cringeworthy). As for "Sea of Thieves" I don't really know since I don't really have enough information to make a comment.

The big three are Halo, Gears of War and Forza which are of no interest to me.

I have a PS4 and I do find there are some exclusives that I like (eg Bloodborne, Gravity Rush) but the majority that I like are multiplatform such as The Witcher 3, Doom (campaign surprisingly), Dragon Age - Inquisition just to name three

Both the Scalebound and Sea of Thieves demos made me lose almost all interest in the games. One was annoying and held your hand, the other seemed more a MP at-sea Minecraft game and was demoed extremely poorly. ReCore still has some hope for me, though.

I still doubt it will sell as much as the PS4 this Christmas though. many young gamers gaming on current gen consoles weren't even born yet when the NES was around. Nostalgia can only do so much these day.

RARE collection is a good indicator on how retro games are selling right now. I don't remember it smashing records anywhere. it's pretty much a blip on a radar and now is forgotten among the slew of new releases since it was launched. so, I won't bet money on the mini NES selling in the millions let alone beating the PS4. but it will still be good to be proven wrong, though. NES was a great period of gaming and I also love it.

Kind of does impact my daily livelihood. In fact, my livelihood would be better if they were closer in sales to one another. I make tools for porting code, among other things, so if they're close in sales, I have more job security. Luckily for me, with Scorpio, and possibly Neo(not sure yet), MS so far has at least given me quite a bit of job security.

That being said, as a consumer, I'm still not that keen on either Neo or Scorpio. Who cares? Sony for one. Also, as a Playstation gamer, this is good news that Sony is establishing themselves as a market leader. Why? Money. The more units sold means that they are expanding their userbase and potential sales...leading to revenue. That revenue, in turn, can be used to bring more games. Not too long ago, there was a question as to whether Sony could even survive this gen financially. (though it was a pretty silly assumption) Now, they have positioned themselves not only to survive, but to thrive. They now have the financial and consumer confidence to take more risks like VR, and whatever the Neo will turn out to be, without hampering their ability to deliver on their primary console.
All fanboy pissing contests aside, Sony continuing to dominate sales doesn't keep Nintendo or MS from shining. Nintendo and MS just didn't create the product (this time around) to take over the market. Maybe when the NX is released or when Scorpio releases, things will change...or not. But, you can't just give them an NPD victory. They have to earn it. How they go about earning that, imo, is the important factor because that will potentially expand or stagnate sales for them. If they get too cocky (that goes for PS as well) it will be reflected in sales, articles, comments, media, hell, maybe even sky writing. 😄

Dude, I know how money helps a company and all, but do you get how it hurts yourself and other console/pc consumers at the same time? When a console has narrow competition and a ton of fanboys it helps them coast and get away with more. Im an og playstation fan and they definitely cocky now. I just don't see how this can be as bad as YOU see it. IMO, they haven't gotten either cocky or complacent. What I see is a company with a vision to try to lead VR tech on consoles while supporting a main platform with a bunch of games. All of this, while MS and Nintendo are prepping new hardware. That's still competition.
I don't live and die by the NPD results.There's nothing celebratory about my explanation of why it actually matters to the fans of Playstation games. I guess maybe there is something to that saying about being a thin line between confidence and arrogance. I don't see them approaching that line, but you feel like they have crossed it.

I'm not saying its that bad. At least not yet. Well lets see if my vision comes correct for the future console VR tech leader company. They closed Playstation Home. Haven't released any reasonable updates to ps3 like background game update/patch downloads. Gave up on Vita due to sales. Playstation store on ps3 and ps4 runs terrible and still not fixed (newer store launch issue since 2008?). I bought digital ps3 versions of ps2 games and can't get the ps4 version of the same game?

Fast forward to the NEO launch. Lets see how much love original ps4 gets. Reason I bought a ps4 was Sony's track record in console support. However, they have shifted from long support of older consoles (ps1, ps2, psp) to focusing on their newest console and killing off older hardware. I no longer count myself as a Sony fan due to this strategy switch. The ps3 should still be flying off shelves. It can be updated with firmware and software and they don't seem to want to drop the price due to free online. End rant.

Gotta remember the xbox 360 wasn't just "competition" they had the lead and a huge advantage with online infrastructure/services last gen (not why I didn't buy one...i didn't want to pay for online, the rrod, or support what the company was doing). They were not the underdogs really until the later stages of 360. I don't regret buying a ps3. The playstation 3 was the winner in the long haul and I roll with winners. I do however regret buying a ps4 even though they are the "winner" and currently don't want the xbox one either. Hopefully Nintendo can make me want a console again and fix some of the ills of the industry. /end rant #competition is good

Ratchet and clank is a remake, beyond and heavy rain are remasters. Those are this year. Where are thw new games other than uncharted the walking and climbing simulator/movie. It just seems that theres more remasters on ps4 because there are. MS has done 3, (im not talking 3rd party remasters) sony has remastered almost their whole 1st party lineup from last gen dude. Even vita games like tearaway are getting in on it. So what now theyre remastering ps2 games big whoop. Just give us BC and stop the nonsense. Theres no reason why ps4 couldnt play ps1-4 games. My ps3 plays ps1,2,and 3 but ps4 you have to rebuy a remastered version whereas xbox one allows you to play the copy I already own utilizing the new features of the xbox one.

They just released three very different games in June: Star Ocean, Guilty Gear and Odin Sphere. No Mans Sky comes out in like 3 weeks. FTP shooters Kill Strain and Hawken both just dropped. SFV just released a free story mode upgrade. $25 Furi just launched free with PS+. For summer, which is historically a dead season, that's quite good.

You bring up McDonalds and Pokemon, but by your lack of interests & awareness, you sound like a casual yourself. COD just released a new map pack that might be more to your liking.

If XB1 had a ton of games more than Ps4, then the XB1 would sell better than PS4 even if PS4 is stronger.....but it doesn't.

PS4 has more games to play and is slightly more powerful.

I'm saying this as somebody who has a XB1 and NOT a PS4......

It's all good though, as all the consoles serve a purpose and can be enjoyed.
