Upcoming Xbox One and Windows 10 Updates Will Unite PC and Console Gamers

EB: During E3 Microsoft teased a few new features coming to the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, and most of them are geared towards bringing like minded gamers together regardless of their platform preference. The Play Anywhere program will give gamers a digital copy of all first party titles for both platforms, and progress will sync between the two, which is just one step towards uniting gamers across these gaming platforms. Does this mean the next Halo will be on PC? More than likely if you take Microsoft’s above promise to heart, but other new features such as the Looking for Groups (LFGs), Clubs, and the Arena Tournament platform will be even more important in bringing gamers together regardless if they play on the Xbox One or a Windows 10 PC.

Things are looking brighter and brighter on the gaming front!!

As someone that plays PC games primarily I am pleased with this move on Microsoft's part, it saves me money that I might have invested in a Xbox One S or Scorpio. Now I can just play Gears 4 on my PC. I don't see how this helps Microsoft sell consoles, but hey I am happy with this move from the PC perspective.

starsi3602865d ago

Microsoft want to sell games.

The reason they want to sell consoles is solely so they can then sell the profitable part... The games.

If you buy the games on PC rather than xbox, they don't care that you didn't buy an xbox... Because it's the software revenue that matters. Win win for them!

ULTp0ltergeist2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

The real profit comes from the "platform" or digital distribution within the hardware, Xbox Live. Before Xbox Live consoles were basically a solitary gaming hardware, now it seems platforms are the new direction for gaming.

Microsoft is going all digital to increase value for the Xbox app, you can see this already with EA Access and soon to be other major publishers.

So they don't mind designing and launching new hardware now considering there OS and API isn't exclusive. They also don't mind console selling normally since most of their profits come from Xbox Live. I like this direction, games get better and funner.

Don't quote me on this, but I think MS said (or alluded to) they were not too concerned about how many consoles they sell. If this is true, then it's probably because of their new play anywhere program that allows you to play on PC.

So they will be united like Playstation and PC gamers are since the Playstation 2 years already?

Woooooooow.

Vames2865d ago

How are PS and PC gamers united? Please explain because you just opened this can of worms so don't run away scared.

vega2752865d ago

This should be interesting. Let me grab my popcorn.

TXIDarkAvenger2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

Probably because he considers Playstation + PC to be the best combination of platforms to have. Either that or he will mention emulation. Either way both stupid things to say.

edit* LOL. You act like multiple games were crossplay between PS and PC. Not only that, this situation is entirely different. You can play Xbox One games on PC. You can't do that with PS.

Hoffmann2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

Crossplay between PS and PC gamers is a thing since 2004 in Final Fantasy XI ;-)

TXIDarkAvenger yup..those would have been stupid things to say. So why did you say them?

Kribwalker2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

@hoffman
Xbox 360 had cross play games too like shadow run and I'm fairly certain the aforementioned ff11

Once a PS console allows - buy once, play anywhere, all DLCs are cross compatible, all your Trophies/saves/gamerscores are cross sync with PC, then I can agree with you.

As of now, MS will have the only gaming ecosystem between PC and console that is truly united.

Hoffmann2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

Well that is all true.

But that means the gamers can unite their experiences like the throphies or play a game on multiple platforms, a different thing than uniting pc and console players if I understood it right. How does it unity pc and console players if a console player can continue his game on another platform?

Crossplay between pc and console is the only true unification of pc and console gamers. And like I mentioned..that is hardly a new thing, just a rarely used feature sadly.

Bytor2865d ago

Can you play the game at the same time on your PC and Xbox One can other people play it on the PC can another user play it on the Xbox One and you play it on your PC at the same time or vice versa. If not then they are not giving you 2 copies of the game . They are probably going to say your PC and your Xbox One are one system so they are devaluing your PC and your Xbox One at the same time and turning you into some sort of slave to Microsoft.

Pancit_Canton2865d ago

So far they haven't prove anything yet. They only listed first party support. I dont think third party publisher would follow their business model. You got to remember that third party publishers do their business seperately on PC

game4funz2865d ago (Edited 2865d ago )

Can I crossbuy?
See my friends playing on pc?
Play major 1st party games on either?

No... Didn't think so. Your argument falls so flat on its face it must hurt you deep inside.

Vames2864d ago

That is not united sir. It's as if Xbox had no games that were cross-play with PC. How many Sony games were released on PC that can also be played on the PlayStation via cross-play? Can PC users interact and play with Sony console users under the same network? They can't.

And you speak of FF MMO games when everything is the work of Square and not Sony.

The half-assed way of doing things is not united at all. Microsoft's support is the real deal.

Im in the preview program for Xbox... And let's just say, it's a good thing that this is still in preview.

It's very broken... It feels like you are fighting against the controls just navigating the store.
It feels like the Xbox is waiting for touch (tablet), mouse click, and controller input all at the same time...

I believe the Anniversary Update will go live sometime in mid-July or later, lets' just hope the update for Xbox is smooth as possible...

Mrveryodd2865d ago

updates have been seemless so far.

donthate2865d ago

Perhaps it is user error?

I mean, I'm in the preview, and there are a few glitches here and there, hence the preview part, but there is no touch or mouse click. That said, I remember when NXOE was in preview and I thought they would never fix all the bugs in time, but man within 2-3 weeks they cleared it all out and released it. I was floored!

MS really knows how to develop software rapidly and this is reflected in massive updates all the time.

Most PC gamers right now do not have HDR monitors. "as long as you have a compatible HDR monitor" I'm using a 240hz Alienware 1080p GSYNC panel, (AW2518H) while I love it and love the high FPS in games, I'm not buying a new lcd just yet. So for now I just use reshade in all the games I play and enable "fake HDR" 😁 It's pretty good to, not real HDR but close enough for me. 👍

darthv721134d ago

If someone doesnt have an HDR PC monitor, can't they use a HDR supported tv? Most PC cards support HDMI out so I would think that could be one option. It might not have the uber high refresh but I'm sure it could work.

XxINFERNUSxX1134d ago (Edited 1134d ago )

Yeah the HDR TV will work over HDMI. I'm using displayport myself but if your just using that connection you can just use a displayport to hdmi adapter since displayport carries audio just like HDMI.

XbladeTeddy1133d ago

"Most PC gamers right now do not have HDR monitors."

Your point? Nothing wrong with Microsoft impementing this. Once you do get a HDR monitor in the future I'm sure you'll be moaning if Microsoft didn't have any support for it on Windows. They're not going to postpone it because XxINFERNUSxX doesn't have the right monitor yet.

CaptainHenry9161134d ago (Edited 1134d ago )

This is great news. I'm about to invest in a new HDMI 2.1 and Display port 2.0 monitor this year I'm looking at you Asus PG32UQ . Perfect timing 👌

Wrex3691134d ago

This is such a cool feature honestly.

Fluke_Skywalker1133d ago

This is good news I hate having to enable HDR manually everytime I play an HDR enabled game. Some games already turn it on automatically but they are very few and far between (Destiny 2 is actually the only one I know of 😅).

Steam vs DS4Windows – Which is best for DualSense On the PC

Now that I've had some time to play with the PS5 DualSense on PC with Steam and DS4Windows, it's time to decide which is best for PC gaming.

My issue is that on steam you can modify on a game by game bases as some nave native support and DS4Windows you'd have to turn on and off and the issue with what I'm saying. If it has native support and you use the Steam API or DS4W it'll give you Xbox control prompts so it's more convenient to just run the steam API. Generally games outside of steam make sure to have support unless old. I have both and will only use DS4W if I absolutely have to. It's good but the game by game bases on steam is so much more ideal. Example Games with DS4 native support will allow trackpad support like Ni no Kuni using the track pad. But with DS or Steam activated it puts the trackpad to the share button. So the manual ability to disable it anytime that game starts makes it where that game operates correctly every time

XxINFERNUSxX1238d ago (Edited 1238d ago )

I just use my 360 controller for 3rd person games, like GTA. All FPS games keyboard/mouse. No need for me to spend 70$ on a controller. Plus I like it to just work without any drivers just plug & play like the 360 controller.

Try turning off Windows 10's Game Mode if your games are stuttering or freezing

A growing number of users say Game Mode is causing performance issues in games.

oasdada1446d ago (Edited 1446d ago )

Wow i just turned off my game mode a few days ago just because.. and i felt sloght performance getting better but i thought maybe it was just me.. and now i read this

godmachine1446d ago

Right , I read this about a week ago and immediately changed it even with a nvidia gpu my fallout 4 with 3d vision stopped hitching almost entirely

starchild1446d ago

Hmm I've been getting microstuttering in games on my relatively new Ryzen 5 3600. But it always goes away once I restart my PC. Very strange. But I think I already have game mode turned off.

Rude-ro1446d ago

Not sure if you can turn it off.
I
Have to go into task manager and fight it to get it stop running.

Skuletor1446d ago

I turned it off today, was relatively simple. Went to settings, gaming, clicked game mode on the side tab, then toggled it off

Rude-ro1445d ago

@sicksincesix

Right... but I find it still running when going through the task manager.

traumadisaster1446d ago

Last week I heard of that while trying to figure out audio stuttering on a rd 5700. There seems to be a lot of people having audio crackle and go in and out on amd. It seems like there is an audio conflict with two sources trying to control, I don't know.

monkey6021446d ago

I've been diving into the PC gaming side of things head first since last summer and I have a good grasp of it and I'm comfortable with it all now

But what you've just said is exactly why there'll always be a space for home consoles in the gaming market 😂

traumadisaster1446d ago

True, there can be enough problems to make one think it's not worth it. But overall since the ps360 days playing in HD or even 4k at 60 fps vs the muck of 720p under 30fps, non vsync with awful tearing it makes you figure out the pc. Then when you get steam sales over the years it's really nice. But there is a small percentage of pc horror stories that won't happen on console.

TheColbertinator1446d ago

Did this a year back and apart from less performance hiccups I also got less sound glitches. W10 Game mode is not a very beneficial feature for me.
