Why Uncharted 4 Will Be Game Of The Year

While I'm looking forward to U4 I'm waiting till I play it before I pass judgement. Yes it looks really good and the beta was solid. I just can't get onboard with rubber-stamping a title on something site unseen. It's just not ethical or realistic.

Speaking of which. Look who the story's from. Talk about not ethical or realistic. I wonder how many times they're going to reference this story going forward. ;)

The site itself isn't biased, it's mainly one particular writer they've employed. This Justin cat is definitely a big UC & Sony fan so I'm pretty sure he's being genuine.

I do agree there's no reason to hype yourself up for a game that hasn't been released yet, but we've had 3 prior entries in this particular series that all range from great to amazing, and the last game by these particular creators was considered one of the best of all time, so I'd say it's a fair bet to say it'll at least stand head & shoulders over 95% of everything else that will be on offer this year on even its worst of days. I think this game in particular & more than any other is kind of a foregone conclusion in terms of quality, the only thing that remains to be seen is whether it can best all of the previous games in the series.

Fall Out 4 is still my game of the year but UC4 can chane that...sure FO4 has glitches but still fun as hell and got more that my $60.00 worth.

Fall Out came out in 2015. And a new Red Dead in 2016 would definitely make the competition stiff for UC4 but I honestly don't see that happening lol. Fingers crossed though lol.

In some cases, the jury is provided advanced review code of upcoming games in order to meet the Game Awards 2015 judging deadlines. Games must have been commercially released by November 01 to be eligible for awards. eSports nominees were voted on by an advisory panel consisting of eSports media and sites.

Fall Out 4 was left out of alot of awards list becuae it release in November.

Highly doubt the new RDR drops this year...we know how Rockstar works and they don't announce & release games in the same year...RDR is a 2017 game.

UC4 will absolutely be in the running for many GOTY awards, and as a huge fan it'll most likely be my personal favorite. Game is shaping up phenomenally, and it could likely be the best game so far this generation when it comes to sp campaigns at least.

Because it's from Naughty Dog. Some of, if not the best developers in the business. Great game play, great storytelling, and top notch visuals are going to ensure it's GOTY.

There is actually a lot of stout competition this year. Dark Souls 3, Uncharted 4, and my dark horse, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
I don't think Mirrors Edge 2, Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 15, Far Cry Primal have the chops to be ahead of those three games. They are still going to be stellar games (along with others).
I was also really looking forward to Mass Effect and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Yeah I've always loved Hennig's work on UC (even 3, although it wasn't my favorite), but I wonder how much of her abilities come down to the talent she surrounds herself with?

The big test will be Visceral's Star Wars game, and if the rumors are true & it does end up being an Open World RPG, she's set herself up for failure. Her talents will be lost on that genre and she may end up with a rude awakening on her hands. Having Todd Stashwick, a dude who has not only never wrote a game, but never written any major media property in general on hand is kinda worrisome too. I love Visceral, I've loved Hennig's work, but I'm afraid EA & Jade Raymond are gonna mess that game up by trying to fit it in their wheelhouse instead of letting Visceral & Amy take the reins. I really hope I'm proven wrong though.

I'm most interested to see what Josh Scherr can come up w/ in terms of dialogue for UC4, if he can hit those natural comedic tones and keep the series' spirit intact. From what I've seen so far he's going to do a great job...add in the fact that there will be more dialogue, both scripted & unscripted than any other UC game in the series, and I feel like we will get to know these characters more than ever on the final installment.

Its going to be hard to beat U4 this year because Rock star and Bethesda are not releasing a game this year.

Bioware also would be stiff competition but ME is delayed until next year.

I gave up caring about game of the year awards when Madden football won GOTY when I started to pay attention in early to mid 2000's. Same can be said for movie and tv awards. But I very much look forward to playing uncharted 4.

Oh another gripe I have with video game awards... Length of time from release is not often considered. Big controversy last year was witcher 3 released early in the year but games released later in the fall and winter didn't have the advantage of bug fixes and dlc drops. Movies, tv shows, and music don't change once released so the current system kind of works for that. Games change dramatically in a matter of months, create a fair awards system considering that.

Personally, I think the only exclusive with a chance of winning this year is Zelda.

And how does that contradict what I said? An exclusive winning is still rare, especially when this year has some solid contenders. Overwatch, Deus Ex, and even Gears of War 4 (it's an exclusive, but still runs the chance of taking the win from Uncharted 4). Several outlets will call different winners anyway, but as much as I love Naughty Dog and as great as I believe Uncharted 4 will be, I just don't see it beating some of these titles in winning Game of The Year, particularly Overwatch. It's not even my type of game and would take Uncharted 4 over it, but I can see the appeal and it looks like something that'll win a lot of gamers over.

And actually, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is more awarded than The Last of Us now.

We sure will. You can absolutely be correct. Naughty Dog has done some great things with the odds against them. If I recall, BioShock Infinite, Tomb Raider, and even GTA V came out that year. Without question, they're an amazing studio.

On the other hand, will Uncharted 4 really recapture and go beyond the magic of Uncharted 2? This year is simply a great year all around for gaming, so it remains to be seen. For sure, 2016 will be a very interesting year.

So, I just looked and Witcher 3 beat TLOU by few more awards
still the fact that TLOU kept that title for 3 years is nothing short of amazing
and took all those awards in a year with GTAV and Bioshock etc etc of games in 2013.

and i know you are saying that winning GOTY for exclusives is rare
but the reason i posted that is to show that ND track and what everyone saw from Uncharted 4 and it previews are the reason why people have soo much faith in ND than most .
you feel other have chance ...it's your opinion but we will see.

It'll most likely be an amazing game, but calling it GOTY before playing it is exactly the kind of thing that is wrong this gen. It shows people form their opinions around what they WANT to believe and/or what they think they SHOULD say.

The worst part about that kind of thing is it isn't just fanboys on boards that do that...it's people that now actually write "legit" reviews too. While I am sure I will love UC4 too, I'm not so blind to not see that UC series (actually ANYTHING ND does) gets a benefit of the doubt that no other game dev does. Other games with similar or even better quality tend to get ranked lower...or worse, get knocked for things that ND games get praised for.

Gaming was so much better before internet boards became a mainstay...before that we all just played games and had fun...now it's all about trying to push games that are exclusives on your console of choice to "prove" that your opinion is "right"...all just to make your online persona seem better than it really is. Who cares if we are actively trying to destroy gaming?

I've seen that happen with both Ratchet and Clank and Quantum Break. While both are very good games they are nowhere near GOTY material. Those games that win GOTY usually do something really amazing that no other game does that year. Last year we had the Witcher 3. No other game that year had such a well crafted world and sidequests that actually mean something. Not to mention the attitude that the developers had the whole time made the experience even better. That's why it won GOTY awards.

This year there's going to be plenty of competition for GOTY awards. But the winner will be an amazing title that will do something special to make it standout from the competition.

But the game looks amazing so far and NaughtyDog is known to produce games that win plenty of GOTY awards. So its quite probable that UC4 will pick up quite a few of them.

I think due to lack of visual fidelity and inability to achieve 60fps, it won't be game of the year. If Neo was relesed before it then it would have been saved. Poor Uncharted!!
