The Division — Most Disappointing Changes

The game we are supposed to be getting next month is unfortunately not at all what we were originally promised, or led to believe we were getting. Let’s highlight the most disappointing changes that were officially presented in the closed beta.

My thoughts exactly. I also feel very let down about the dark zone. Instead of an mmo with a chance that you would run into another player and they could be friendly/hostile, we got some tiny arena mode with an arcady "rouge" system that could easily be broken or exploited.
It also isn't a tactical tom clancy shooter. It is just a worse destiny with out good movement, but added a cover system. Destiny did the gun play much better so why try to copy that. The enemy ai is terrible. Ubisoft likes to show of the game that the gamers who actually watch e3 and events like that would want, then change them by the time they release, to what they think casual players want.

The DZ in the beta wasn't that small. Just most idiots tended to stay in the northern part of it, since there was a vendor / safe zone / an extraction area / couple of NPC areas. The rouge system never felt broken in the beta, though people tricked others into going rouge by shooting them once or twice to get them to fire back and people found bugs on how to evade it (which have been patched, as that's what betas are for).

Also, it had that feel of an "mmo with a chance that you would run into another player and they could be friendly/hostile", seeing as you could run into people that would help you kill NPCs and then into others who would rather shoot you in the back as you tried the same. If you want to survive long in the DZ, make some friends and group up. If you have 3 or 4 people, not many are going to try to gank you.

Also, it's not copying Destiny in gun play at all. It's a 3rd person shooter with cover mechanics, while Destiny is a 1st person run and gun game where you can jump and fly through the air. If you're gonna compare it to anything, try another 3rd person shooter like GTA or Uncharted. Also, the match making in the beta for The Division was miles ahead of Destiny, loved not having to go back to a menu screen to queue to join a group.

just because the camera perspective is different doesnt mean they arent trying to copy destiny. I was obviously referring to the damage and ai model. Honestly, destinys gun play was miles ahead of the division. If it was actually like a tom clancy game then it wouldn't have been, but its true. Destiny had tighter controls and the guns felt different from each other. There was more skill and control involved in destiny. But sure, as you pointed out, it does load screens better than destiny.

No, by making pvp zones it is not the same thing. They just were too afraid to make an online only game because some would complain. You are making an area where the people who enter it are consciously choosing to go to the pvp zone. It is all set up to be people who go there just to try to gank and troll people. There is no reason that someone in this area is going to just help out and not be incentivized to kill you. The npcs ai was so stupid that you dont need anyones help. The dz was very small. And, in a game with terrible gun play, pvp is just dumb.
The rouge system is inherently broken and stupid. Just go look at all of their forum comments on how to "fix" it. Everyone has different suggestions because the whole idea of the rouge system is very arcady and exploitable.

So by that theory, every 3rd person shooter is trying to be Destiny. The new uncharted, quantum break, gta, ...

It is a slower pace, not jumping 20 feet in the air, no riding vehicles, ability to use cover, weapons that you can remove the customization in to put on a different weapon, insanely better match making where you don't need to go to the main menu, no one shotting in pvp, ...

Only similarities are level progression, bullet sponge mobs (hard / veteran mobs), having abilities, and group content. Things every MMO has...

What exactly did you see in the E3 videos that suggest The Division was in any way shape or form a tactical shooter?

wsoutlaw873011d ago

Have you been paying attention to any one thing the devs said?

Resoula3012d ago

I highly agree with all of this. My entire gaming community has decided not to buy it because of all the lies and changes by ubisoft. Die-hard Tom Clancy fans like them and myself are a bit disappointed with all the changes Ubisoft is making to his game now that he is gone. Ignoring the "Tom Clancy" title though, this is still a unique game in itself that doesn't have much to compare itself to yet and I do think it will be worth a try. Thankfully we have that open beta to figure it all out before we have to invest real money.

Since you are here as the writer. I suggest you refrain from submitting "articles" Until you have actual researched facts to share or direct communication with developers at least. At this point you are spreading misinformation and false concerns (some of which have been addressed and purposefully altered for the beta).

Just a single example, you as the author can research the rest outside of this including the many interviews with the developers about the direction and progress of the games development. http://n4g.com/news/1862635...

@oschino what are you talking about? he expressed his opinion. Are you actually under the impression they are going to change the game before march?

So tired of the complaining about how you can't one shot enemies in the head, and how many bullets it takes to take down enemies. Get over it and go back to COD. This is not a traditional shooter like COD. Not every game will be perfect to your liking. Again... get over it and get on with your life.

kmeck5183012d ago

My thoughts exactly. This is not a traditional shooter. It's an RPG with shooter elements, so there are critical damage zones and not instant kill zones.

rdgneoz33012d ago

Exactly. Show me an MMO where you can 1 shot mobs your level right off the bat.

Resoula3012d ago

Hey! Just wanted to clear something up as the writer. I do not play "traditional shooters" (I do not find them fun). Apologies if I implied that The Division should be more like those some how. I was simply comparing the game-play that was originally shown to us compared to how it is now that we have it in our hands. Then I expressed my opinion on this change. Hope you understand where I am coming from. Hope to see you in game =)

Why people are complaining all the time of the game is not excpected what it was to going to be. Downgrade, gadgets, oneshot. Damn, like many other had make a point here... I will do another,
If not the downgrade of grapichs, alot would not buy this game cuz their pc is shit! second, pc´s games and console games are trying to have minimized differenses. third, this is a different game than others so dont frekain compare to freakin solo gerne like cod or nfs. fourth, i dont find solo players should complaining of being left out. this is a co-op game like diablo. you will need team8s to go throuh this.

Map size, well if you had a freakin one to once scale of NY, it would take at least hours In real time to get from one side of the map to another. so stop complaining. i dont find amuzing spending one hour to get there i want to start something.

You all have to stop complaining and giving constructive critics instead... Only that way the game can be better.. and if you got something good to say, contact massive or ubisoft. how hard can it be?

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
