CD Projekt Red: 'Cyberpunk 2077 is far, far bigger than The Witcher 3'

"Now it has been revealed that the title will be ever grander in scale than the third and final entry in the developer’s sprawling fantasy series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. “Far, far bigger."

TheGreatGamer3125d ago

I remember the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 was the first game trailer I saw for a next gen game that got me hyped for next gen, crazy there's been nothing since that first teaser trailer but I'm hoping to see more soon

Yukes3125d ago

“The name of the game is Cyberpunk 2077, and we usually say the release date is 2077,” he joked.

Take your sweet time, CD Projekt Red. You've set the bar pretty darn stratospheric now :)

poppinslops3125d ago

I'm guessing it'll release sometime in 2018, but I'll gladly wait 'til 2077... Wild Hunt sits alongside Red Dead and Ocarina of Time as one of my all-time faves, so the thought of CDPR making a sci-fi with creative freedom and stacks of $$$ is just too damn ultimate for me to even consider whining about the timeframe.

KOIMOJO3125d ago

CD Projekt Red is just so impressive as a developer. They check all the boxes whether it's the quality of the game or the way they support their games and think about fans.

Whether they make the best dark fantasy setting or a super cool cyberpunk setting, it seems like what they make is always right at the top of my wheelhouse. Their games feel like they are crafted for me and I love it. Only a couple other devs out there that I can say that about. (FromSoft, KojiPro/RIP, Naughty Dog)

Bolts3125d ago

Topping Witcher 3 will be an epic endeavor. They need to take their time instead of cranking out yearly open world rehash.

frostypants3125d ago (Edited 3125d ago )

I'm insanely amped for this game. I've been dying for a AAA cyberpunk game for years now (love Deus Ex but its universe doesn't have quite enough grit). The teaser kind of has a Blade Runner meets Syndicate (the original one, not the lame 2012 game) feel.

Love that. The opening with the CRT command line is awesome. Details...

assdan3125d ago

Yeah. Can't say I'm excited for this game, but I'm excited to see what it is lol.

jb2273125d ago (Edited 3125d ago )

I'm dying to see more from this one myself. I've never been big into the fantasy settings so I've sat out of the Witcher, but this sci fi setting is right up my alley. I'm sure I'll eventually give in & see what all the fuss is about with The Witcher but I'm very much looking forward to letting CDPR blow my socks off with Cyberpunk....if the story is on point I could see this title being a milestone release for the current gen. That teaser trailer has me all kinds of interested. Really hoping they pivot more of the team over to this title with the quickness so we can potentially see a gameplay trailer sometime in the next year or two.

frostypants3124d ago

@jb227, oooohhh...you said something less than glowing praise about The Witcher 3. Careful, the fanboys will downvote the hell out of you...

3-4-53125d ago

Really looking forward to seeing more about this game.

It's had my interest from the beginning and knowing it's bigger than Witcher 3 is exciting news.

XanderZane3125d ago

It's probably safe to say that we won't see this game next year. If we're lucky the end of 2017 or Spring 2018. The game is going to be grand. I have no problems waiting, as 2016 has so many quality games coming out, I doubt I'll be bored at all in 2016.

SlightlyRetarted3125d ago

I think they said that they are going to do the same thing with Cyberpunk as Bethesda did with Fallout 4. So pretty close to the release they are going to drop a bomb. Not like with Witcher 3 thing where they showed footage years before release.

Holy Moly! I guess we are in for a treat. This might be the Blade Runner game we all have been hoping for. I cant wait to see some gameplay footage.

joeorc3125d ago (Edited 3125d ago )

Yeah 100% agree, if you think about the cyberpunk world, plenty of pen & paper RPG sourcebooks out there on mega corps, and the description on the world, the underlined big part is the Mega city's that you as a player play in.

Spider implants:

Gibson's ideas and concepts of a ovrgrowh of technologies like as your good response like in blade runner, the panoramic view of just seeing an elevator climb up in a mega city. With flying cars.

Tons of rain falling , some of which may have been water from days ago just now making it to the ground due to the pipes and drainage systems the water had to go through.

The City itself is Joined to the player as is the player to the city itself. as important as a feature of any in what's held for players in the settings. Of a mega city.

Not just one dark ally, but your dark ally could even be 100 stories up!

NerveGearneeded3125d ago

basically shadowrun on a GTA size scale and a 3rd person perspective.

jb2273125d ago

It's got such great story potential..the Psychos aren't all that different from the spree shooters we are seeing these days in that they are also mostly "biologically enhanced" with antidepressants & ssri inhibitors. There could be so many parallels with our current society & every bit of tech shown so far seems to be an obvious outgrowth of where we are going as a society. Really hope they take their time fine tuning the story to make the most of all of this great potential & couple that with a truly unique and compelling environment & gameplay system. They have something really special on their hands here if they have the chance to see it to fruition.

TwoForce3125d ago

I'm very like to see how CD Project Red can nail the sci fi game. Science fiction is my favorite genre.

DLConspiracy3125d ago

Most anticipated game. Since the Witcher 3. I have been stoked for Cyberpunk 2077. If it's even bigger that means more time to indulge in that game. So excite!

d_g3125d ago (Edited 3125d ago )

i just can’t wait to see what is this game

the first trailer was awesome

nowitzki20043125d ago (Edited 3125d ago )

Closer than we think.

sadsatan3125d ago

as wonderful as witcher is, i'm all about cyberpunk

frostypants3125d ago (Edited 3125d ago )

I felt like what they struggled most with in Witcher 3 was the exploration component. The game just gave too much away in terms of where stuff was, and made the wide open spaces feel kind of pointless at times (but obviously I'm only speaking for myself here). A game like this though, in an urban setting, should take to that sort of game design a bit better, as atmosphere will trump exploration. Not sure if I'm making sense, but whatever. I'm excited.

Peace_Love_and_FPS3125d ago

You're complaining about size, but they said it's bigger, why?

I wanted MORE size from the Witcher, not saying by any means it wasn't big enough, I'm just greedy and CDPR has spoiled me :D

frostypants3124d ago (Edited 3124d ago )

"You're complaining about size"

No I'm not. I'm complaining that they made the size pointless by labelling exactly where every interesting thing is without ever having to discover it on your own. There is absolutely zero need for exploration, thereby making the huge map nothing more than a travel time exercise. Game would have been better if they just eliminated the markers for undiscovered points of interest.

It's like people want this HUGE map...but they want their hands held so that they don't have to actually explore it. What's the point?

It's a broken mechanic, in my unhumble opinion. To summarize: huge map = good. Nerfing exploration = tremendously bad.

Well they are using unreal engine now thanks to there work culture and horrific job on making cyberpunk so for the future no impact.

But it will be interesting to see what mods will be made

just_looken4d ago

7 disagrees shows how many look at one dlc that had a rip off fight from ghost in the shell and goes wow what a goat team i love cdpr while ignoring that they only made 2 games that were good witcher 2/3 in 20yrs.

But its a new world we want a criminal that support's legal murder as president/support shoplifting love toxic work environments and have a mass casualty event every other day.

GhostMirror4d ago

I’ll admit I didn’t play it at launch, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a really good game now.

And who the hell knows what you’re even going on about in your second paragraph here.

EazyC5d ago

Wait a min...I swear to god CP2077's source code got leaked before. CDPR needs to stop using "password123" for all their accounts 😅

just_looken4d ago

Na its hundreds ex employees no doubt just getting there revenge.

Profchaos4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

This is the same leak the threat actors have been trying to sell the source code after cd project didn't pay the ransom.

They didn't manage to sell the source code to any company largely because it would be unethical for say EA to buy it so the threat actors failed to find a buyer.

After they failed to make any money they went through with their threat of simply giving it away.

They will need to add everything they promised in the first one and not over promise on the second one.

just_looken5d ago

They also need to drop esg then hire employees that have knowledge not hire them because they have a set of tits.

Official video they hired people to fill the esg clipboard

Hofstaderman5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

As somebody who has been playing the tabletop games since the 90s and was let down on launch by my PS4 version, you can bet I'm not going the preorder any sequel.

3rd person option, and everything else that was originally promised. Next don't force agenda driven naratives. Finally, release a finished product without need for day one patches.
