I was under the impression that we looked at a cross section of news, did our own research and came to a conclusion on our own.

As for this game, yes it's aimed at 4 year olds but it's going to be great for children... it's just not for me.

They added content the reviewer thought was repetitive, and he states the charm factor just is not as great as the vita version.

Also adding content is not always a bonus. A direct port is much better than a direct port with more features that don't do anything or even take away from the original experience. As the reviewer said it had bad pacing.

There is for a lot of people a different mindset when playing a new game on a PS4 and a Vita.

You are confused because you probably clicked a review you believe should of scored much higher and found no valid reason for their score after trying to. A good reviewer plays a game and thinks up a score not grades it like a test. They don't come to conclusions like more content+tearaway on ps4= obviously better game than og, they play it and see what they think when they finish

Yes you are exactly right. More content does NOT equal better. In no way, in no world. From what I've read from multiple reviews the common running theme is that the game has horrible pacing and no cohesive progression. Also, the lack of a PS4 camera for many gamers removes one of the game's more charming features- like your face in the sun.

I have the game on Vita. It's a great game. But clearly, this reimagined port isn't as great. Better stick with the original if you have a choice.

I haven't played it yet, so I'll reserve my own judgement, but critics seem to unanimously disagree with this review, which sits as an outlier on an otherwise tremendously well received adaptation.

Personally I did not understand this IGN reviewers argument. He suggests that the additional segments adversely affect the games pacing and narrative. From what I recall playing this game on Vita, beyond its begging and end, the game did not have that much of a narrative. Little more so than a Super Mario game. So it's not easy to understand why more content indeed would negatively impact the experience.

As far as Lawson72's argument that more content + same game doesn't necessarily = better game, goes. It really depends on the game and the quality of the content added. I could see how more content could adversely affect a very well paced, narrative experience like The Last of Us, but it would be harder to understand how more content (i.e. extra levels) would adversely effect more gameplay focus games like Super Mario, or the one in question here, Tearaway.

After reading the review, I found it odd that they docked the game 20%. His main gripe was the additional content. And he even admitted the content was fun, so it's not like it was a complete negative. Why dock the game 20% though, I can't imagine it being that much of a problem.

I bet if there was no additional content the game it would have been docked for being a handheld game with no additional content to justify the console price and release. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Yea I think Im not the only one to think IGN reviews are irrelevant these days. The thing that worries me is how th the top comment was flagged 'Off topic???' for just stating 'IGN'?
This site is great in that it allows gamers to express themselves independently from the sites posting those reviews. Now its getting more and more difficult to do just that because of an unbalanced bubble system.

Actually, the review said that one of the disappointing things was that the game stick too much to its original narrative hence some fill-in fights that can get repetitive fast.

You should read the review before judging it.

The score just does not justify the content of the review. This is from the same guy who gave the Vita version a 9.3. So much deduction with the improvements not making up for the cons.
Really? For a developer who pushes the DualShock 4 functions to the limits you give a 7.6? Now that is very cold hearted.

Now you guys know why Greg and Collin left IGN.They just can't stomach what's going on inside it.I wonder when their contract is gonna expire. Expect more scores like this in the future for PS4 games.

Majority of the reviewers give this game a 9 or 10. IGN wants to be isolated.....so be it.

Also beware of reviwers who despise kid friendly games in favor of violent games.

I'm sure you'd agree that a PS4 game can be worse on Vita, so why is it a surprise that a Vita game can be worse on PS4? I've played the original Tearaway and a demo of Unfolded. While the original Vita release left me charmed it couldn't help but feel cold with the PS4 port. Because of the difference in controls the interactivity was significantly worse and I couldn't help but shake how unfitting a cynical hackjob port was for a game as uncyncial as Tearaway.

@JMyers Not when the port makes changes and additions to the original game. The story isn't a 1:1 rendition of the Vita release. It's also important to remember the difference in experiences on a handheld vs. a home console. One might find a RPG on a TV screen a poorly paced slog due to the grinding required to get far, but be okay with the same game on a handheld because of its pick up and play nature.

Seriously. Why is IGN suddenly playing this stupid ass "Let's try and downplay PS exclusives!" card. I know it's not just me. Literally, every PS exclusive this year has received a score from them that is below the meta. With BloodBorne, they even went as far as to delay putting their review up on Metacritic just so they could wait for the right moment to bring the score down. What gives?

Its not a secret, they have been doing this since forever. Another method they use is the "work in progress review" where they give a lower score than is deserved to a highly acclaimed PS game (TLOU), that way during the critical period of the release window the gamers see a 7.8, (and other smaller reviewers see that score as the benchmark), then once the game has been out for a while, IGN raises it to a 9. This way if someone asks what did IGN give to such and such PS exclusive, the answer is "9", but the damage is already done, and IGN did it knowing what they were doing.

This policy of IGN is also COMPLETELY evident in their video reviews. There is a HUGE difference between how they talk (choice of words), about xbox exclusives and Playstation exclusives.

Uh... Maybe you should actually read the MCC review? One of the major negatives they had was with the online not working at launch. They also had a review in progress for it too to see if the online was all good. Which it clearly wasn't at launch and they did mark it down for that. I mean yeah it got a 9, but it was easily worth it for all the stuff included.

a 7.6 isn't a bad score either. If I was looking forward to it id still be getting it. Remember Medal of Honor from 2010? they gave it a 6, still kept my pre-order and thought it was good. They gave Bloodborne a 9.1... just 0.1 off the metacritic score. Are you seriously convinced they did that just to lower it?

And yet they dock Tearaway from a 9.3 to a 7.6 because the additional content, although good, brought some pacing issues. Does that seem logical? Take it from someone who's had their work republished on Metacritic, the content creator doesn't control when the scores go live on that site. That's all on Metacritic's skeleton crew of a staff.

No man, they really ARE biased, check out their video sections. Note that 'bias' is relevant. If you look at their video reviews for example, or their podcasts, (which i regularly do), you will notice that they tend to look at PS games more "critically" whereas when doing reviews for xbox games its almost like a commercial with nothing but possitive words. I cant tell you how many times ive come off a video of news about a PS exclusive game feeling less excited for the game than right before watching the video. IGN knows what they are doing, and they are very good at it.

If you compare scores on metacritic for various exclusives, they don't seem far off to me. Good scores for Last of Us and God of War remastered, not so great for The Order and ok for Until Dawn. Are you saying they're extra generous for Xbox titles?

I dont know if they are more generous to xbox exclusives because that would be a guess. But i do know that they use a different, more critical, method when they talk about upcoming exclusives that are on PS. You often will come off the video with a sense of "well it might not be as good as i thought it could be" whereas this doesnt happen for upcoming xbox games.

Its all a matter of the choice of words. Its like saying "how fast was the car going when it "collided" with the other car". VS how fast was the car going when it "bumped" the other car" the same witness might change his mind about how fast it was going, depending on how the question is posed. When IGN talks about Sony games or Sony in general, they tend to use more words that can have negative conotations, or more critical words, more open to interpretation, not so much when its an xbox game.

From this you can take what you want, but it seems to me that if they go to the trouble of choosing their words so carefully, perhaps their scores are also biased in the same fashion.

I've noticed something over the years, it looks like that all these "cute" games or more "family/kid friendly" games on Sony or MS consoles get WAY lower review scores than any Nintendo "kids franchises".
It's like Sony and MS get penalised for doing new "family/kids" games while Nintendo keeps getting 9s and 10s for doing the games over and over again...

Believe me when I tell you Kirby does NOT deserve a 73. That game is just pure garbage. This coming from a huge fan of the Kirby franchise. It is one of my favorites.

I sincerely hope Woolly World is good. I consider Yoshi's Island one of the best games ever made. I can't wait to get ahold of this.

I can see why some people may think that it will never be better than the original(Who can you blame anyway other than good game design? Tearaway was simply too good with the vita capabilities, its hard to imagine it having the same magic on another platform)His complaint is basically there is too much new2 stuff and the charm of the original isnt there in this version.
People should be too much focused on one guys opinion and check all the other 10s and 9 scores its getting.

I am defnitely getting this day one. I loved the Vita game and could care less about what IGN thinks. I loved Until Dawn and they gave that a 7.5. I loved the Vita version of Tearaway. Any bet most reviews will be 8 and above.

My wallet is getting destroyed recently. I picked up Ethan Carter, Rapture, Volume, Until Dawn, and the Ltd Edition MGS5 Console plus Ltd edition of the game... Worth every penny. By the way that MGS5 console is beautiful.

Tearaway was amazing on the Vita, very charming journey, top grade game.
The problem I found with it was that it was incredibly short..

Now the PS4 version has more content, which means it's longer & it gets an average score?
Come on now.

I'm surprised people can judge this game as kiddy (because it's colourful I guess?) & then they'll play certain Nintendo games with no such comments.
