'Fallout 4' Has 400+ Hours Of Gameplay, But Is That Enough?

Forbes:
There’s a particular statistic I’ve been thinking about recently. We first heard it earlier in the month, in a presentation from Fallout 4 lead producer Jeff Gardner, who said that he’d been playing the game for “400+” hours, and he still hadn’t seen everything there was to see. It’s a staggering number, one of those ultra-inflated ideas that might as well be 100 more or 100 less and it still wouldn’t really compute. People used to more constrained experiences might wonder: how could a game possibly have that much content? But those familiar with Bethesda games might have a sightly clearer idea of what that stat means. And I wonder: is 400 hours enough?

"Fallout 4 - Is 400+ Hours Too Much Gameplay?"

"Fallout 4' Has 400+ Hours Of Gameplay, But Is That Enough?"

Too many articles about this statement. All i can say is that 400 hours is intimidating for some but for others who likes their games to be huge, its awesome.

I made a little calculation. If you can play 7 hours a day, it will take you almost 58 days to complete, maybe even more.

If you can play for 7 hours a week, it will take you a staggering 1 year and 2 months to finish so yeah, it will take you a long time.

For me, Fallout 4 and MGSV will probably last me a year, maybe even more and thats a good thing. 2015 is such an awesome year.

And to answer that question in my opinion...

Nope, its not. Next Question...

NukaCola3162d ago

400 is too much for me, but I'll sink about 100 plus to platinum it pending there are no dumb trophies like do 10000 damage with melee, etc (Looks at you New Vegas!)

TheSaint3161d ago

You can spread those hours out, you don't have to sit down for four hundred hours straight!

Krakin13162d ago

For most people, beating the game will be enough and I'm pretty sure it doesn't take 400 hrs to beat the game.

Bigpappy3162d ago

When you say beating the game, I think you mean the main story. Where I come form, a 400hrs game takes at least 500hrs to beat. You can't beat a 400hrs game in lest than 400hrs. But I appreciate that some people, especially younger people who have to move on to the next thing, would gladly just play the main quest so you can tell your friends you beat the game and saw the end. These games have more than one story, and sometimes some of those side stories are much more memorable.

These games aren't for everyone, and you should not buy a game because you see lots of other people interested in it. You should buy it because YOU think it would satisfy your appeals. These games are for people who want to explore a fantasy world and experience a journey. It is about the emersion, and if it is really good, you don't want it to ever end.

brave27heart3162d ago

400 hours? I'm calling bs. I reckon you can do EVERYTHING in 100 hours.

Sure, if you walked really really slow, creep everywhere and generally play very cautiously, maybe. But I reckon you could make almost any game last 400 hours playing like that.

Mega243162d ago

I have about 800 hours in Skyrim with one of my characters, still play it from time to time, and mods make it have tons of replay value. I don't see the problem. You can probably blow through the entire main story campaign of Fallout 4 in 12 to 20 hours, but you wouldn't even have scratched the surface.

Funny part, most people complaining of long hours are the ones who have over 500 hours of gameplay in multiplayer games.

I love games where I can find stuff I haven't seen before, even after a year into it.

magiciandude3162d ago

Much of that 400+ is optional. If that's too much, you can still enjoy the main quest line and some major side quests with fraction of that time and still get your money's worth. This is a very flexible game, with no wrong way of playing it. IMO, there isn't enough Fallout, so the answer is no from me also.

Fro_xoxo3162d ago

the average player will barely get 30 hours of gameplay out of it let alone 100+. There are simply too many games to play for me to invest that much time into one. .

AudioEppa3162d ago

Never cared about any of the other games in the series, but F4 story looks interesting and I want to play it straight forward without any side quest crap to deal with, so if the storytelling missions are easy to get to then I'm definitely playing it, if not my game time will be used elsewhere.

markoghc3162d ago

How can you tell that the story looks interesting, when almost nothing has been revealed, and Bethesda said that they will keep it secret until launch?

KwietStorm_BLM3162d ago

Because it seems interesting. This is the first time we'll see the world before the fallout, and finding out how this guy is still alive after 200 years is something I'd like to do.

DarkOcelet3162d ago (Edited 3162d ago )

Then you wont be playing for long, seeing how Fallout 3 and New Vegas stories can be finished in less than 3 hours. (I Speedran New Vegas in 59 minutes and Fallout 3 in 40 minutes) I doubt this will be longer.

The whole package is awesome.

Kingdomcome2473162d ago

Really? I'm new to the series That's crazy. Was using glitches involved to do that? I'm pretty excited for the game. I'll be playing ROTR, The Nathan Drake collection, and Halo 5 first. Then I'll devote my time to Fallout 4 until the Spring heavy hitters start to drop.

DarkOcelet3162d ago

Nope, just normal speedrun. I could have finished Fallout 3 in less than 30 minutes if i used glitches but i wasn't exactly competing or anything. I was just messing around :D

_-EDMIX-_3162d ago

Budd...the excitement for Fallout 4 is very much based on what Fallout 3 is.

Fallout 3's main game was like 12 hours long and meh, its good, but its nothing compared to all the side quest, the side quest make that game. Consider those 12 hours was just that of a 70 plus hour game.

I'm pretty sure folks are excited about the side quest. If you didn't like Fallout 3, 4 will be no different.

Mega243162d ago

Well, to be honest, it isn't just the sidequests, it's the worlds that Bethesda creates around their games. Even with all the glitches that happens, they are the best experiences of games I've had. First time I touched Oblivion, I was amazed. Been a really big fan of them ever since.

DxTrixterz3162d ago

Well finally you can say you get your money worth for a video game.

Kingdomcome2473162d ago (Edited 3162d ago )

The Witcher 3 would like to have a word with you outside. No rough stuff, though, just talking.

DxTrixterz3162d ago

Lol I forgot about Witcher 3. Silly me. I guess I'm soo excited for Fallout 4 that I forgot that Witcher 3 even existed.

WeAreLegion3162d ago

Oh, shut up, Forbes. Jesus Christ.

Fallout 4's 'next gen' update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, & doesn't change much at all

We were expecting problems with mod support, but there are a lot of other issues.

isarai10h ago

Wow what the actual hell 🤣🤣🤣

just_looken9h ago

This is why you get the GOG version on gog you can select the version of the game to download.

On pc fallout 4 fallout new vegas and skyrim are all broken on steam because they all got the same "next gen" update.

Skyrim dec 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/sky...

Can not find new vegas but anyone that modded it knows the script extender there was also broken

Valkyrye8h ago

Not accidental, they want modders to stop modding their older games to force them to mod Shitfield.

just_looken6h ago

There doing the same on starfield with a mods store and blocking mods

There goal is like blizzard and what they did with fallout 76 you make mods they can sell and you become a slave.

On skyrim they have "trusted" mod devs now basically a badge that lets your mod on the store you get a crumb of the sale when someone buys it.

Inverno4h ago

lol to the disagrees, the last Skyrim update broke mods too. They've been trying to kill mods to monetize them in creation club for years, it's not a stretch that they purposely put out patches just to break free mods.

porkChop3h ago

The disagrees are from people who have common sense. They aren't trying to kill mods. Most mods for any game will break with a new update because they rely on files/code that have been changed. This isn't new. Even with Bethesda this would happen way before the creation club. Mod support is literally one of the things that got Bethesda to where they are, and they're one of the only devs that releases comprehensive mod tools for each of their games.

Chocoburger4h ago

Over 14 GBs and doesn't change much at all? What? Taking up that much drive space for a pathetic 'remastering' is shameful.

Par for Bethesda.

Aussiesummer3h ago

It's not a remaster, it's a next gen update.

badz1492h ago

LOL people are actually expecting massive improvements or something? From Bethesda?? the same people who released Skyrim multiple times and the all look like shit? THAT Bethesda? are people for real?

Profchaos2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

The ps5 version doesn't change a ton but from my small playtime it's enough to make me want to replay it just to have it running at 60.

A side note to this my PS4 version no longer boots after it's "update" so I guess that's what it feels like to own a Bethesda game on PC

Bethesda Looking Into PlayStation Plus Subscribers Not Being Able to Upgrade Fallout 4

Bethesda Customer Support Manager confirmed they're looking into Fallout 4 not being offered to those who redeemed via PlayStation Plus for free.

Why would anyone downvote this? Don't be silly. This is great news. Thanks for sharing, darthv72.

MWeaver5898h ago

I think it's because the main question for many was whether or not the PlayStation Plus Collection version would support the upgrade. To me it seems obvious the PlayStation Plus Extra version would, though it is nice to see confirmation it will.

That said, Bethesda highlighting the PlayStation Plus Extra version low-key confirms they do not plan on upgrading the other version given to players. Naturally some people are pissed, as even the in-game phrasing says "free for all players."

VenomUK7h ago

@MWeaver589 Exactly this point, it was advertised as free for everyone.

VincentVanBro6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

It’s just a lame solution to the problem, even if it is a solution. The comment shouldn’t be downvoted though.

Christopher6h ago

I mean, it's at least something. It's 'good' news compared to the alternative. Not darth's fault even.

Also, I highly believe this will get fixed. PR nightmare if they don't since the PS store doesn't differentiate/have different text for those with or without the PS+/PS Collection version.

Even though I claimed the PS Plus version, I still have my physical GOTY PS4 edition and was able to get my PS5 upgrade a little earlier today. Physical media FTW lol. Hopefully it won't be too long before the PS Plus owners also get to upgrade their copies.

JackBNimble7h ago

My digital version works just fine , what's your point?

raWfodog7h ago

My point is that even though I claimed the digital version via my PS+ Essential sub, I was still able to upgrade to the PS5 version using my PS4 GOTY physical version that I bought years ago. Otherwise I would have had to wait for the fix to be released, however long that will take. Isn’t that what the article was about?

JackBNimble1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

No, you claimed an upgrade that everyone with the physical or digital license can other then ps+ extra .
And what you hold is nothing more then a physical license.

And the article is talking about people with ps+extra who didn't own the game previously to it going on ps+ .

I bought the game years ago to ... digitally, my whole point was to your statement " physical media Ftw" . So what does physical have to do with anything?

blacktiger5h ago

I expect this and also no releasing on next ps console. Pretty simple. Please don't be suprise
