Swap Mario 64 and Sunshine because sunshine was way better and fixed all Mario 64's problems. It was a fantastic game.

NO

LOL
Mario 64 is beyond Galaxy imo

TheFirstClassic3300d ago

Mario 64 is still the best imo despite the camera flaws.

JustinWeinblatt3300d ago

There are some issues that Sunshine definitely fixed. The objectives were given a bit more clearly, the camera was better, and the hover feature made things more accessible. However, there were other issues it introduced. Keeping to the Tropical theme so closely limited the visual diversity in the game, blue coins were just a hassle, and the hover pack made platforming a bit too easy for veterans. Sunshine is a very underrated game, but I liked Mario 64 far more.

New Super Mario Bros U higher than Super Mario 3D World, wut?

JustinWeinblatt3300d ago

The games were pretty close for me, but ultimately I enjoyed the package of NSMBU and Luigi U better. As much as I liked 3D World, it didn't fully satisfy my urge for 3D Mario or 2D Mario. It's a compromise that isn't quite as pick up and play as 2D Mario, without the exploration of 3D Mario.

That's not to say I didn't really enjoy 3D World, because I enjoyed it quite a lot. I also happen to think NSMBU is pretty underrated. Easily the best level designs in the "New" series, and rivals the older ones too.

iliimaster3300d ago

super mario 64 was pure magic to me... jumping in those pictures, the music, the system, the time.. still to this day ill play it on the wii with my gamecube controller

TheFirstClassic3300d ago

I still take out the n64 to play it on my old crt tv every once in a while. I've beaten it countless times, still my favorite game of all time.

Super Mario World, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario 64 are definitely the top games in the series with all the rest following behind. Only people who think differently are NES and Wii fanboys who choose the game they have the most nostalgia with. I've played them all except Galaxy(Wii Remote Sucks Compared To Traditional Mario Games) and these ones where definitely in the top 5. 3D World had a horrible camera and lot's of levels just felt overused without anything really amazing. It's a very overrated and average Wii U game. Only people who I've known to fanboy over Galaxy are people who actually like the Wii Remote and I personally hate the thing so I will never experience that game.

Don't let nostalgia or your inner fanboy decide the best Mario games. Super Mario World looked and played better than the original Bros series. Super Mario 64 was original as hell in every way for the series. Super Mario Sunshine fixed everything wrong with 64 as far as graphics and gameplay while also giving Mario a new original story which was awesome. New Super Mario Bros and the Wii U version feel average to me without anything really original or amazing while also controlling worse than all of the original 2D Mario games. I've never played the Galaxy series except a little of the beginning but I can't compare it to the other games simply because it uses motion controls/wii remote which in my opinion are worse than traditional controllers every other Mario game has. Galaxy should not be in the same list because if it is I simply can't put it in the top 5. Super Mario 3D World has the same issues as the New Super Mario Bros games in which it just feels like nothing amazing or original if not lacking even more when compared to previous 3D Mario games.

On a side note* I read a little of the article and noticed that the author mentioned after Super Mario 64 the 3D Mario space stagnated because it lacked anything new until Galaxy? To this day I still think F.L.U.D.D was very original and a great idea to give us something new for the Mario series. In my opinion the game is just as amazing as Super Mario 64 and it even played better. New Super Mario Bros and 3D World are far less original than Sunshine yet he ranks them higher saying they are more original. He also rates the Galaxy series the highest because he things they were the only good Mario game since Super Mario 64. I've played a little bit of Galaxy(Not enough to rank it or give a real solid opinion), but it reminded of the horrible parts in Sunshine where you get F.L.U.D.D taken away and you feel very under powered. That was the feeling I got from playing Galaxy for a few minutes, I think those parts are where Nintendo got their Idea for the Galaxy series. I think the only reason Galaxy is so high up there is because of all the casuals who bought a Wii and that was their first Mario game. Because let's be honest it is probably the most played Mario game simply because of how many Wiis were sold compared to all of their other consoles.

Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite Super Mario game.

And before you jump to some stupid conclusion, I played almost every Mario game BEFORE Galaxy was even released.

:)

DragoonsScaleLegends3300d ago

The only conclusion is that you like the Wii Remote and I don't.

JustinWeinblatt3300d ago

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but please don't claim that I said things I never said. I did not say that Galaxy was the only good Mario game since 64. Not even close. I also didn't say that 3D World or NSMBU were more original than sunshine.

On that subject, I personally don't think a hovering ability is a revolutionary addition to the series. If you disagree, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion. You are not entitled to dismiss anyone who disagrees with you as fanboys, and you're not entitled to misrepresent what I said.

Play Galaxy before you bash it wii remote or not its one of the Best Mario games ever released, Wii fanboy no I grew up with a NES, I still managed to play a fantastic game with a Wii Remote, Mario Bros 3 on the NES was bettered by super mario world, Mario 64 was bettered by Galaxy IMO, it's certainly very good (mario 64) but Galaxy just takes it to another level/dimension absolutely fantastic game (Probablly why Galaxy 1-2 get voted as games of the generation but as good as Galaxy 2 was I preferred 1) but you cant call yourself a mario fan if you've not even tried one of the Galaxy games, specially as you can just put the disc in the Wii U. It's nothing to do with casual gamers owning a Wii most of them like yourself didn't have the skills to use a Wii Remote properly, get a grip.. Or wrist strap and game on your missing out, as for the comparisons with mario Sunshine arguably up there with number 2 as one of the worst (still good games but just not classics) I'll play each and every mario game regardless of the controller being used, it's all about the game and Nintendo always get the best out of their controllers anyway so why wouldn't anyone play Galaxy, madness, but then to diss it, ridiculous. Someone just sounds hurt Sunshine isn't at number 1 on the list, it was ok but it's not even a top 5 mario game ever, Mario 3, world, 64, Galaxy 1-2 and new super mario bros Wii U aren't moving over and don't deserve to not played cat mario but I'll get round to it at some point before dissing it (even if it does look pretty cool even if I'm a dog person myself) as I have common sense.
As for not even reading the arctticle well that says it all, I haven't played the games properly because I can't use a Wii Remote and ive not read the list properly as it didn't agree with me saying Sunshine should be 1st so I'll just comment all over the article without any proper knowledge on the games im dissing. Madness. Everyone's entitled to opinion I just prefer to listen to the people who have an educated answer and not people who clearly don't even know what they are talking about, use play the games first before writing them off, not saying get every star but until you've been through Galaxy 1 at least once you shouldn't even bother and no it's not because I like Galaxy 1 that in annoyed I just people bashing stuff they have very Limited knowledge on and when it turns out that it's because You can't use a Wii remote, haha dude!

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga4d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

Profchaos4d ago

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas4d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj4d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Chocoburger4d ago

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
