This would be so welcomed. I love taking screenshots but sometimes it's way too obvious how compressed they are.

Xof3304d ago

I don't know why anyone EVER uses jpegs in this day and age. PNGs have been around for... more than a decade, at the very least.

Of course, the other problem with PS4 screens is the fact that they're automatically resized.

Grievous3304d ago

PNG files are much bigger in size than JPEG files and for most purposes JPEG is an adequate format. It also depends on the compression, a JPEG can have a lot of compression or very little.

Sony should offer options, not one or the other. When browsing sites on my smartphone I'm not a fan of having to load 3-4 MB PNGs.

Neonridr3303d ago

because the internet pages you browse would take 2-3 times as long to load up if you were using PNG's instead.

Xof3303d ago

...I've never noticed that to be the case with PNGs.
Most PNGs I've seen or used are approximately the same size as JPGs.

I'm not sure what these 3-4MB PNG images are you're loading, Grievous, but I can tell you right now that most of the PNG wallpapers in my folder (1080p) are 600-800KB. I've got two that are about 10MB, but those are probably my fault somewhere (they're images I scanned from books).

And correct me if I'm wrong, but most websites don't load images as big as 1080p, or even close.

Jedislayer3304d ago

Honestly, I never really had any issues with 2.50

JoGam3304d ago

I haven't had any issues with 2.50 but the screen shot are compressed. Don't like that.

krypt19833304d ago

nobody was bitching about compressed screenshots until the xb1 screenshot feature came out and they wasn't compressed why is that just curious?

JoGam3304d ago (Edited 3304d ago )

@ Krypt1983, In all honesty I can't answer that question however I would say I didn't bitch about it. In fact I noticed the screen shots were compressed day one and wondered why it was. It would be fantastic if the screen shot were not compressed because the PS4 has some great games and I've myself took some great screen shots that I never can appreciate because they are compressed. Does it ruin my experience with the PS4? HELL NO. I don't really think anyone is bitchin, but if the screen shots can be uncompress, then great. The PS4 got better. But if they never update it to do it so be it. No shade.

Khajiit863304d ago

@JoGam

Couldnt have said it any better myself.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps4...

Most of those on that page I took myself (Ajdee6), and after moving it from PS4 to phone to pc, I think they look pretty good.

LordMaim3304d ago

Me either. What was supposed to be wrong with it?

ziggurcat3304d ago

i'd be curious to know what issues people have been having as well since i've not encountered anything, personally.

etebitan3304d ago

Ive had issues when putting my ps4 in rest mode... The yellow light blinks for hours and I have to disconnect my ps4 from the power source

LordMaim3304d ago

Weird. Hadn't heard that.

OpenGL3304d ago

The "What's New" page always says "Error" for me after placing the system in rest mode. Restarting it fixes the issue.

ShwankyShpanky3304d ago

@OpenGL: I've noticed the same thing as well.

Aside from that, no issues. 2.50 came out at the perfect time... sus/res is a must for Bloodborne, and I immediately swapped R1/square & R2/triangle in the button customizer, as I'm not too crazy about having melee attacks on the shoulder buttons.

I would have liked them to make the custom buttons only apply in-game and not to the dashboard as well, but minor inconvenience to turn them on and off.

Khajiit863304d ago

0 issues for me even before 2.50 but if they can improve 0 issues for me then Ill take it.

madcrabs3304d ago

Biggest issue I've noticed is that occasionally when I go to the menu screen I lose the ability to scroll down into the info screen on games and apps.

Also, not sure if its a bug or design feature but certain notifications can't be deleted, or have to be deleted one at a time. No delete or select all option.

I've had the "what's new" section error out a few times as well.

bloodybutcher3304d ago

I haven't noticed anything. It did occasionally take a loooong time to get in the rest mode, but i am not sure, if it wasn't happening before the update too.

SuperBlur3304d ago

Idk if its an issue with the fw or the game itself but ive had connectivity issues with gta v if i tried playing online after coming back from rest mode. Maybe R* fixed it, idk, i did not bother to try again.

mushroomwig3304d ago

Same here, 2.50 is one of the best updates to date. No problems here.

RiPPn3304d ago

Agreed which is why I clicked into this article, was curious what the hell they were talking about.

Summons753304d ago

My suspend doesn't work anymore, I'd say that's a problem. Netflix menu or a menu of a game I go into rest mode and it boots up to the dashboard all games/ apps are closed. Sony needs to fix this asap.

Dark_Overlord3304d ago

I've had a few, from crashing when quiting games, notifications not popping till a full reboot and the XMB? being locked on the invite screen whilst playing Far Cry 4 :/

All minor niggles but very annoying at the time.

You do right by your fans, Sony. Keep it up.

blakstarz3304d ago

What's wrong with 2.50? I haven't ran into any problems.

gameseveryday3304d ago

Could be a minor update. Stability patch may be.

JoGam3304d ago

Yeah thats my only guess.

"#Ps4 update to fix some problem in 2.5 incoming" - Tidux

How is any way is this a justified "rumour" to report on.

Common sense is not insider news.

OB1Biker3304d ago

And they manage to put MS in the first sentence. Only on Gmbolt

deadpoolio3163304d ago

Maybe next time read the actual article...MS was mentioned because they allow you to take uncompressed screen shots, and the PS4 allows the same thing except they are heavily compressed....MS wasn't mentioned just for giggles there is a difference between making a comparison and fanboy garbage

Most gamingbolt "articles" are just a tweet.

Occasionally, they really put some time into them and have multiple tweets referenced.
