Borderlands: The Handsome Collection has 16GB day one patch on Xbox One

The Xbox One version of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection has a 16GB day one patch, Eurogamer has spotted. That breaks down into a 3GB download for Borderlands 2, and 13GB for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

This is unacceptable for both the PS4 and Xone version. We should not be downloading this huge amount of $hit. That means the game was released incomplete or not well optimized. They should have just delayed it to make it perfect then release it.

That dlc should have been on the disc before it was released.

Genuine-User3319d ago

I partially agree.

"PlayStation 4 owners need to download an 8.3GB day one patch, meanwhile (thanks, Videogamer)"

I wonder why there's a huge data difference between the two machines.

uth113319d ago

Sony has put more work into optimizing patches for size.

GrieverSoul3319d ago

So, by the amount of data the game downloads on day one, and its the DLC...

Does the physical box copies announce the DLC included in it?!

I mean, if im playing offline, then I wont be able to donwload the DLC announced in the box?

Am I getting this wrong or what?

LexHazard793319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

@Griever, that is when I wish they still included dlc install disc. Now they just give you codes and you're shit outta luck if you dont have the data package to download updates.

Most all my games need updating, the only thing up to date are my consoles.

GribbleGrunger3319d ago

It's ALL the DLC packs. Have you seen how many there are?

DarkOcelet3319d ago

There are tons of them, and dont get me started of how pissed i was when i bought Goty edition of BL2 only to find it doesnt contain all the dlc.

Over 120$ dlc that dont even have half the amount of gameplay as the full game. Just WTF! I am pretty sure 2k will find a way to **** BL3 with its 200$ day 1 cosmetics and $hit.

vishmarx3319d ago

the game itself was 3 gb on ps3 and the dlc was like 8-9gb
what i dont get is why they couldnt they put the dlc in the same disc when the dlc is the whole point of this collection

pivotplease3319d ago

Yeah they kind of dropped the ball with the execution of this. I suppose the space would be taken up no matter what due to mandatory installs but for most people 8 or 16 GBs is hardly a fast download.

uth113319d ago

It is ridiculous. Why even bother buying it on disc when you practicality have to download the entire game again?

I was thinking about buying this, but my internet connection would make patch sizes like that too painful

alvgamin4lif3319d ago

I'm in the same boat. I bought bf hardline on the 17th and it is still downloading :(

spacewarrior13319d ago

the update is essentially new DLC for The pre sequel as it only recently released on last gen and the discs were already shipped so this was the only way. i don't know why gamers have to make a fuss over nothing. it was either delaying the game again or release it as a update and i'm bored and need games to play. don't like it don't buy it as the trolls and fanboys usually say. i doubt you were going to buy this anyway so stop complaining.

Jdoki3319d ago

Fuss over nothing?

The number of Day 1 patches makes it seem like we've moved back to the age when games needed to load off tape, and could take 15-20minutes+.

Sony recently acknowledged that Day 1 patches had got out of hand - and they were looking to improve the situation, but also that they had no control over third parties.

I guess the answer is 'buy better internetz' or just wait for hours!?

It's a ridiculous situation and needs to stop. For example... 1) Allow pre-load of patches for games so people could download the update before even buying the game 2) Add something similar to Guild Wars or WoW, where games are playable before the full patch has downloaded. 3) Stop releasing half-arsed buggy games that are finished after they go gold (possibly not the case here, but Dead Rising 3 was a culprit)

There are solutions that minimise the impact on customers.

spacewarrior13319d ago

Jdoki don't like how modern gaming is then sell your consoles and get the retro consoles you love so much back.

Jdoki3319d ago

Great comeback spacewarrior1! Nice to have a well reasoned debate on what next gen means to people, and what they are willing to accept and put up with... But then I guess having two bubbles limits you from really contributing to conversation.

So you really consider it 'next gen' and progressive, that it is now pretty much standard that people cannot play the games they buy on Day 1 until they wait for a patch to download.

And you think it's fine that developers are not trying to look at smarter ways to deliver patches.

And even though Sony have said Day 1 patches are out of hand, it's really all cool and not a problem.

Don't tell me.. You also think DriveClub releasing in a broken state, and the Halo remaster that still doesn't work properly was all blown out of proportion and a fuss over nothing.

It's sad that people give developers, publishers and manufacturers a free pass.

Volkama3319d ago

You get the title screen and the credits on the disc. The rest of the game is included in the day 1 patch.

If anyone is planning to buy this (and if you haven't played the games i'd highly recommend it) please disconnect the console before first use so that you can sample the unpatched game and report back :)

uth113319d ago

The unpatched title screen is glitchy though, it shows the wrong game :P

burza19823319d ago

Claptastic Voyage DLC been released on 24th March and game was completed something about 2 months ago. So way you complain about?
They could say, DLC wasn't ready and game was about to release, so now you have to pay for that DLC, but they didn't and you have for free in patch.
Enjoy the game.

thejigisup3318d ago

I definitely agree with this it's kind of getting a little ridiculous postpone the game for a week save me some space in my system

3-4-53318d ago

* Both games + DLC are on the Disc.

* The Patch is the Claptastic Voyage Campaign DLC,( which always take up more space) + the day 1 patch and whatever else they fixed and added for the day one patch.

* It takes an Hour to get to the Airport.....Complaining about it isn't going to make it take less time.

You get it?

What I don't like is all the texture draw in STILL happening. I realize this legacy from Unreal engine 3 but f#$k!
(oh and I have the PS4 version digital)
Perhaps they don't have this issue on the XBone.
Oh I really hate I cant cross download between platforms my character.
Other companies have found a way, like EA/Bioware with Dragon Age, but Gearbox just stuck it right in the rear of gamers and choose the lazy way out.

Ricegum3319d ago

You sound like you're too demanding. Gearbox have done a really good here, a remaster that is actually certainly worth every penny.

pivotplease3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

Yeah unreal engine 3 always sucked for that. It's one of the things that kind of detracted from games like gears visually. The resolution difference is certainly great though. It is sad though that the PS4/X1 versions dont have the PhysX aspects from the PC version.

I'd like to say this is worth every penny. Its only that BL2 has been free, the pre-sequel has been cheap, and the dlc is not that worthwhile. Will wait for price drop for sure. Bloodborne is something I'd sooner buy new.

Toiletsteak3319d ago

This sucks, my internet sucks so i won't be able to play this game until saturday now and i was so looking forward to tomorrow.

Mwally293319d ago

That is one hell of a day one update. Not sure if ill bother. Can you keep your old character from the 360?

G20WLY3319d ago

Nope, sadly you can't. :(

Dread3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

I think you actually can transfer your save data from the 360. At least the box says so.

I will confirm later today after work. BTW played it and it runs fine on the Xbox one.

The_Eternal_one3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

Yes you can. You can transfer your progress from Xbox 360 to xb1 and transfer from the Xbox 360,ps3 to the ps4. But not ps3 to xb1.

MSpence5163318d ago

The only part about this I don't like(and this could just be my ignorance of how it was to work), Is you have to still have the actual last gen game for this to work. I thought that if I just uploaded my save from my X360 HDD to a cloud save that it would work.

Silly me.

Oh well, I have absolutely no issue with staring over, only because the games are fun.

Resistance 3 is such a great game. One of my all time bests.

cooperdnizzle667d ago

Couldn’t agree more. Still love It as a shooter to this day.

Just something about that game. I really wish they would just do a remaster, don’t even need a remake just bring it up to todays out put, touch up a few things if any, and I am there to buy it day one.

Of course I would love a remake built from the ground up. As long as they treated it like Shadow of the Colossus, or close to those type of remake. Wouldn’t want it to get the RE treatment…. Just because the game is already paced so perfect and hits all the right beats that I wouldn’t touch that aspect.

because they all run like garbage and are poorly optimized for switch

G3ng4r906d ago

These actually run quite well on switch but you are welcome to show us how ignorant you are if you like. I picked up the handsome collection because of how nice it looks on switch compared to something like outer worlds. Outer worlds is blurry trash on switch.

Yui_Suzumiya906d ago (Edited 906d ago )

I have The Outer Worlds on both PS4 and Switch and it most definitely didn't run bad on Switch. How many hours did put in on the Switch version?!

G3ng4r905d ago

My profile says I played for 75 hours so I put up with some stuff. And it does run bad on switch. The latest patch helped to keep it at 30fps but it still doesn't stay there. Then there are those moments when the game stops you where you are to load assets, you can't tell me you haven't seen that loading circle in the center of the screen. Lastly, and most damning in my opinion, is how blurry the game is. Monarch in particular gave me a headache to look at for long, orange soup for miles.

Look, I get it, you're a switch fan. So am I. That doesn't mean we have to be dishonest and claim that games that were obviously never meant to come to the platform actually run flawlessly.

G3ng4r905d ago

Examples of ported games that look nice on switch: skyrim, dark souls, borderlands, bioshock, diablo 3

Examples of ported games that look like a fart on switch: outer worlds, witcher 3, divinity os 2, doom 2016, ark survival

It isn't hard. Play what the switch handles well, skip what it doesn't and don't confuse people as to what looks good and what doesn't.
