Isn’t it time for a price drop on PlayStation 4 launch titles

Darryl Linington from ITF Gaming writes: It has been a good a good 6 months since the launch of the PlayStation 4; however, the launch games are still sitting at a rather high price. This brings me to my question… Isn’t it time for a price drop Sony?

Ive seen all of the launch games selling from $20 on up at different retailers. Most of them are selling at $39.99 on a daily basis. Even the digital games have been lowered in price at times. I bought Tomb Raider and Thief from the PSN Store for $29.99 each. Other games Ive seen from $39-$49.

So, unless you've been living under a rock for a while. Almost all of the launch games have been lower than retail price on almost a daily basis at most websites. Especially Amazon.

Agreed. You shouldn't expect a whole lot of sales on digital. Retail is where the savings are at. I think Killzone, Knack, Ghosts, and ACIV have all been discounted by $20 at one point or another.

Ironic, since there isn't any packaging or shipment costs to add to the titles when digitally distributed, yet publishers want to charge full price anyway. I thought that was one of the benefits to DD, that software could be cheaper due to lower overhead costs?

Publishers being greedy and not wanting to change with the times. At least on Steam you get deep discounts on a daily basis. Consoles... not so much, though Sony's PS+ free game promotions are definitely worth mentioning.

@thereapersson

What about storage/bandwidth on their servers? The fact that it's available for you to download anytime, as many times as necessary? I'm not saying it justifies keeping the cost so high for so long, but over the course of the lifetime of the game, the maintenance cost of digital will far exceed the cost of any packaging/discs.

wellfare gamers at their best

hoping sony will start trying to compete with steam on the sales front.

Corpser3670d ago

Why would they need to? Steam needs to compete with other PC digital retailers, Sony has a monopoly on their digital store

Derekvinyard133670d ago

ive seen killzone:sf for about $40. then again used on amazon sometimes goes for cheaper

I think Darryl needs to direct this article and their older, non-launch games to Nintendo and their eShop prices for the Wii U and 3DS

Final Fantasy IV Pixel Remaster Review – An Epic Tale Of Pixelated Portrayals

Gary Green said: We’re finding ourselves in a similar position with the Pixel Remaster edition of Final Fantasy IV as we were with Final Fantasy III since, once again, we’ve received a slightly upscaled, more vibrant port of the original game when there’s already an expanded 3D remake available. As such, we’re playing a game which, even after its long-awaited release, still lives very much in the shadow of its remake.

If only they didn't screw ps4 owners over with a physical release. I'd have ran through this in a heartbeat.

The first one I played, it was the one that made me fall in love with JRPGs and is still my favorite to this day. A masterpiece
