Just like how Rockstar got GTA:SA to run on the ps2 so is it just as a technical achievement getting gta V to run on the ps3, a system with a mere 256mb of system ram, astonishing

ape0072705d ago

absolutely insane achievement

deadfrag2705d ago (Edited 2705d ago )

PS3 has 512MB of Split Ram 256MB of GDDR 3 for video and 256MB of XDR main memory .Not only 256MB.

I know that, the role the ps3's system ram itself played was what I was talking about, it was a limiting factor for many game developers like Bethesda who couldn't overcome those limitations with they're gamebryo engine for example, where slowdown and game freezes would occur after only a couple of hour's of play, along with a few other openworld/sandbox games that was released on the system, with GTA V however never once did I have any of those issues on my ps3 after countless hour's of play.

I'm slightly concerned we may never see such insanely well optimised games again now we're getting hardware bumps to the consoles mid cycle. :(

GTA5 on PS3 is pretty insane.. Compare it to PCs of a similar vintage with similar level specs and it just seems surreal.

quent2704d ago

The main issue is time, the time it takes to develop these well optimized game engines, because of that most big AAA publishers can't afford to wait that long, they need to keep pumping out annual releases for their huge companies to sustain/grow even further and become even bigger where production in quantity will take more and more priority over quality big projects, up to the point where they can't sustain themselves.

ugly business side of gaming....., where history always eventually repeats itself, companies rising and falling and so on...

On the bright side there will always be up and coming Inide/middleware companies that will also continue to grow and add freshness and variety to our gaming experiences and they will grow and become the new EA's and Ubisoft's... , around and round we go

Sunny_D2704d ago

I wouldn't say it's only the gaming side. Most business try to go with quantity over quality.

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) Best Settings for Low End PC: RTX 3060/RX 6600/RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

Grand Theft Auto V was released over 9 years ago, but the player base is largely intact due to regular updates to the Online Multiplayer. The game had some technical issues at launch, most notably a CPU utilization issue, but most recent chips shouldn’t have any issues running it.

i think the only real loss is GTAV

OtterX13d ago

I think everyone and their sister owns the game by now. They likely want to squeeze the rest of the holdouts before GTAVI releases.

Profchaos13d ago

That game comes and goes from subscriptions so frequently I think it's expected now. Like rdr2 on gamepass Rockstar Games only last a max of 3 months On a service

MrBaskerville12d ago

Talos Principle is the real loss.

BanginTunes12d ago

Facts that game is good as fuck I'm playing through 2 now, very underrated

Huey_My_D_Long13d ago

indivisible was pretty neat. Cute artstyle, fun throwback to older RPGs, shame its leaving but it is on sale often

shinoff218313d ago

Definitely. I e joyed what I played of it. Still gotta grab the physical at some point

Petebloodyonion13d ago

I'm not surprised by GTA V removal, Rockstar never allows this game to stay long on a subscription service.
They usually allow 4 to 6 months.

lodossrage13d ago

Yeah, they do that routinely with both GTA and Red Dead.

But it's because they know they can still sell them so they take them off and on to these sub services in cycle.

The weird thing to me is why is anyone still buying those games at this point? You would think after 3 generations of being sold GTA 5 that everyone and their momma would have it by now

RNTody13d ago

I fail to see how the loss of an almost 11 year old game that released across 3 generations is in any way a problem.
