Exclusive: Slightly Mad Studio Head Ian Bell Sets The Record Straight On Project CARS Wii U

shame.. I love how suddenly the Wii U was always a "maybe".

If I am not mistaken, this game was originally a PC, PS3, X360 and Wii U game. The PS4 and XB1 only came in afterwards. And the Wii U version was always supposed to be the priority back then since it was the first console announced.

3-4-53267d ago

* Can't stand all these dev's who just aren't as good at their job as they think they are.

Then the blame the specs.

Great games...better games then Project Cars, were made on an 8-bit NES system.....& SNES& N64 & PS1,2,3 ect....

If good solid games can be made on those, there is no reason a game can't also be made well on the Wii U, which has superior specs to all of which I listed.

* Bad dev = bad dev = Needs to take responsibility for their actions.

* If Nintendo can make it work, then it CAN happen, and CAN be done right.

Other people just aren't smart enough to figure it out.

Otherwise they would have......right ?

Nintendo got Question 1 right on the test....Project Cars dev got it wrong.

Just because Project Cars dev didn't get the answer right, doesn't mean it can't be right.

You see? You get it ?

What Nintendo was able to accomplish and realize, others have failed at.

Other people besides Nintendo have also made good games for Wii U, so if your actually good at what you do, you will make a good game for the Wii U.

* If Naughty Dog made a Wii U game, it would be really good....if Blizzard made a Wii U game.....it would be very good.

Why ?

Because they are actually good developers.

Why can Nintendo make good solid game after good solid game that is of high quality & bug free ?

Not going for max specs + artistic vision>realism + Efficiently and intelligently creating games.

Why are good games on XB1 & PS4 ? Because those Dev's did a good job.

They EARNED having a good game. They didn't whine about it.

* Wii U is fine...it's the dev's that are the problem.

They act entitled and whine and RARELY take responsibility for their failed actions.

Dev's are usually almost always blaming somebody other than themselves.

* Nintendo put up...they talked the talk in that they supported their system about as good as any company ever has.

The 3rd parties acted entitled and that if it wasn't max specs it " wasn't good enough for them"

* How many Dev's this gen actually did the most with the specs given ?

3 or 4 at most....maybe.

Truth is, a few days before this Nintendo / Project Cars stuff went down, there were complaints about the OTHER versions of Project Cars as well.

The NON-Wii U versions were getting ripped.

And people stopped reporting that and jumped onto the bash Nintendo Bandwagon.

It's disgusting really.....

Nintendo made some mistakes, but the failure of a game called Project Cars is not the fault nor the responsibility of Nintendo.

It's not their game.

So now 3rd party dev's are blaming Nintendo for their own games failure ?

Whoever is in charge or Project Cars is delusional.

darthv723267d ago

Sort of like what happened with ubisoft and Rayman legends. The game was initially a wiiu game and i believe was even finished for the wiiu but had to be held back for the PS3 and 360 versions to be ready.

All that time in between they could have shipped it and it could have sparked some interest in the platform but... it is what it is. it still got released but way after it was supposed to.

Project cars will fall into the same ranks as colonial marines on the wiiu. novel ideas that just dont get their realized releases.

Magicite3267d ago

I think this was supposed to be last 3rd party AAA game for WiiU, from now on things will get only worse.

Vendredi3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

Well, according do wmdportal.com, which is project cars official website, yes, you are right, the wii u, the ps3 and the xbox 360 were initially the consoles the studio was focused on. On their own Game Design Overview, available at their own website, you can see how the wii u was advertised as a future console for the game (and not just a "maybe") Actually, it is the only console on the whole Game Design Overview that has a section dedicated for it's special functionality (pg. 13). By the way, project cars game design overview was published by Slightly mad studios at wmdportal.com in february 2013. In july 2014, they officially announced that Bandai Namco would be their distributor, and they did announce that project cars was coming to the wii u. So, yes, Ian Bell is not a man of his word.

Here are the links:

Skate-AK3267d ago

Yeah, that last link says it is coming to Wii U. Nothing in that post makes it sound like a "maybe."

If Nintendo's NX is a 1080p console, then the company could really kick but with third-parties if we're still three generations away from 4K gaming like Naughty Dog's said.

curtis923267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

How would they be in position to kick butt? Wii U was arguably slightly more powerful than PS3/360 and released before last gen was over and it flopped. Why would N releasing a newer, possibly slightly more powerful box than ps4/one be ANY different in a year or two? Either it'll be of equal power to PS4/XBO (and yet still years behind in online functionality and also starting with zero install base compared to competition) or it'll be far more powerful -- but to a fault since Devs won't take advantage of it being there's such a small install base and will just port over ps4/xbo version. NX could simply put N back in yet another awkward transition phase that we see with the Wii U. Nintendo really, REALLY needs to hold off with NX and just launch with PS5/Xb2 and have similar power.

ABBAJESUS3267d ago

Powerful Nintendo console + Nintendo's exclusives and all big third party titles = Nintendo wins

ZeroX98763267d ago

This proves again how far away nintendo is in hardware performance vs the competition.

Next console, let's hope they get similar performance as the other 2.

The Wii U games are still awesome to play, but some of my friends would've bought only a Wii U if other third party games were on it. Most of them bought either a PS4/X1/PC to go alongside the Wii U.

Slightly Mad Studios should have known from the start that the Wii U would have problems running it.

superchiller3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

There is no one to blame but Nintendo for this situation. They are the ones who cut the specs/features of the Wii U to a bare minimum, all to accommodate the gimmicky gamepad. There was no way that the Wii U was going to be able to compete, this generation, with the meager specs and features it included.

Only 2gb of RAM (with only 1gb useable for games), weak CPU, weak GPU, no internal HDD (or even a bay for one), the list goes on and on. The console is fine for Nintendo's undemanding, cartoony games, but beyond inadequate for anything remotely demanding.

It's a sad situation for people who only have a Wii U, but those people probably only care about Nintendo's first party games to begin with, so for them it really isn't a big loss. Anyone else who already owns one of two next generation consoles out now can just buy it on one of those.

DaGodKing3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

the people saying that its nintendo fault for weak hardware..

you know that the game was intended to RELEASE ON PS3 360 AND WII-U

http://www.wmdportal.com/wp...

curtis923267d ago

Right but... if it's canceled for PS3/360 then why wouldn't it be canceled on Wii U then? How can anyone expect the Wii U version to somehow be an exception? If it was selling like hotcakes maybe, but hell it's struggling to keep pace with PS3 week-to-week. So... yes, Nintendo is partially to blame because they're the ones that chose to release their new gen system so completely underpowered that it cannot handle today's demanding games. If you make a system on par with ps3/360, can't cry when new gen games don't get released on your system.

DaGodKing3267d ago

to answer your first question it's technically now cancelled... but they keep saying that yea the game is in development.. yea its coming, etc..

but im just saying that it was announced for last gen systems when they moved away from that why not cancel the how trio.. why not release the last gen engine or whatever on the wii u and stop trying to force it too perform like the next gen system because its not

OldDude3267d ago

Because WiiU fans paid up and funded their kickstarter program. After that the developer screwed them and used the money to fund their PS4/X1/PC versions. If they don't release a decent product as promised I hope they get sued for deception. Personally I wont buy a game from a developer that screws over its fans and doesn't fulfill its promises so blatantly.

Why did EA Kill Project CARS?

This video explains why we think Electronic Arts didn't see a future in the sim racing title Project CARS and promptly cancelled the fourth instalment.

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox542d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade540d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole539d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow541d ago (Edited 541d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow540d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad540d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist540d ago (Edited 540d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace540d ago (Edited 540d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad539d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim540d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.
