Forget ripoff: Disney Magical World is better than Animal Crossing

GamesBeat's Mike Minotti: I feel like I have an unpopular opinion, especially among the Nintendo faithful, but so be it. I like Disney Magical World better than Animal Crossing, including the newest version, New Leaf, for the Nintendo 3DS.

Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters are strangely popular. They are not featured in as many products, cartoons or places like they used too be but kids still love them. I'm sure they would have fun playing this game.

I think the only problem with Animal Crossing is how behind they are. I mean we should of been Mayor with all the features in City Folk

Even if your Mayor you don't feel like you have a lot of control over your town.

For example people moving in, surley the Mayor would get a say who moves it and where they are allowed to build their houses instead of destroying my flower/tree patch. Then theres the fact you can't build things where rocks are....I mean get a bulldozer or something to destroy them.

Great franchise, I love it but with how limited it is and the fact each new games dosen't seem to add many new features is annoying....and I mean features which make a difference.

My dream is to build my dream town...like have a birds eye view of the town and you can select where things are built and where roads should be or ramps down to the beach.

In New Leaf, you have the ability as mayor to remove people you don't like. The layout of the town is based on a grid. You can use a shovel to get rid of the rocks. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you so you know in future.

I have New Leaf, it's my no 1 game on my 3DS since last June and theres no way whats so ever to remove villagers on the fly

You can complain about them at the town hall, hit them over the head with a net and ignore them for weeks but villagers moving is random...and it's a p*** take since the people you do like and have great relationships with want to move sometimes....it's like "Eh....why do you want to move, I've talked to you all the time, sent mail, done you favors and you want to bloody move".

I meant with the grid you can pick up houses to move and rearrange them. Add roads, pavements, ponds etc

You can only get rid of ONE rock a day and thats the one which has an Ore inside of it. I meant the rocks which are permanent.

Have you actually played New Leaf by any chance?

I bought New Leaf and do play it once in a while. I neglect my town a lot though because of my backlog though. Right now I'm blazing through Spyro on my PS3 (took advantage of the recent flash sale). Since there's no real objective I take things pretty slowly in my game.

I simply can't stop playing Disney Magical World since I bought it. In my opinion it does many things so much better than Animal Crossing. The article lists the same things that make me think that.

I only bought it because I'm going to Disney this year and I wanted to use it to "warm up" with the characters and whatnot. I really wasn't expecting to find such a great game.

I wish Animal Crossing let us meet Nintendo characters, had a greater sense of progression, let us use items for more ways than hoarding or selling, and didn't make us wait for months to find most of the items. I know Nintendo wants us to keep playing Animal Crossing for a very long time, but I always seem to get tired of it after a couple of weeks.

Thats how I feel, it's the same boring routine every day

Meet/greet vilagers, do the same bunch of tasks for them, fish for a little bit, hunt for bugs, check the money rock, check the ore rock, sell stuff, check whats in the shop that day.....and thats it really.

The shop for example even on it's last upgrade is so bare. I mean I seem to get the same items at the store all the time.

Oh and why do we not have a tool belt so we don't have to use item slots for our tools.

Then there's the horrible universal storage instead of separate containers.

I love the game but theres a lot you can nit pick from it. If it was the first/second game fair enough but we're well into the series now.
