It's possible to be a fan of the first game, and to dislike the second part enough to seriously criticise it. Many of them felt betrayed by the amount of perfect scores it received, so of course there's going to be backlash.

Most if this "hate mob" are fans of the first game, disappointed by the plot of the second game. I hate how they're considered to be awful people for feeling this way. It's just nonsense, there are a lot of genuine problems with the game's narrative, and they shouldn't be written off with "WELL YOU ONLY HATE IT BECAUSE YOU HATE LESBIANS!"

Plenty of games have matched Naughty Dog's storytelling capabilities, many of which were already at that level before ND were well renowned for their stories. Mass Effect, Heavy Rain and Red Dead Redemption 2 all had better stories than any ND game. A few of the Telltale games were at least on par. Just to name a few.

Red Dead 2 had a far superior story to The Last of Us 2. I get that you may be so impatient that you need the main character to die in the first hour of the game, but come on - Joel's death was done so poorly, that even The Walking Dead beat the hell out of it with Glenn and Abraham's death in a similar scenario.
The combat was fine, it at least had a weighty punch to it. TLOU2 beats it in this regard, but it's the only aspect you could objectively call better....
