Yep, these three franchises defined my early PS experiences:
1] Metal Gear Solid
2] Final Fantasy
3] Silent Hill
Uncharted 4 is gonna be tricky, they really need to nail the story. I liked 3 because of the Last Crusade vibe, but they run the risk of having a repetitive story. It's go for broke time, I hope they surprise us with the story and take it into...uncharted territory. (sorry)
It is interesting how some people are surrounded by fans of only one particular gaming system.
Anecdote time: I don't know anyone who owns or likes Xbox. I'm surrounded by Playstation owners, and have no idea how it's happened. I'm not really complaining though, I've stuck with Sony since PS1, so just as well my friends own the same system.
I really hope that's the direction games are heading in, but I have serious doubts about the Cloud. Online connectivity is still so unreliable in most countries (even in the UK and USA), and online data is prone to suffering crashes or security issues.
I think we're still in the teething phase, and won't see the full potential of the Cloud till next decade.
That's a good track. I just don't like the music when you're in the sewers or plains, and it's just very minimal with an occasional harmonica. It had a vague hint of a wild west style about it, but just very dour. I'd have wanted more atmosphere and less gloom.
I know it's post-apocalypse, but the franchise also has a mean sense of humour too, the soundtrack for Fallout 3 is just too straight-laced.
Just my opinion though.
Gonna be picky and say: a better soundtrack.
The music for Fallout 3 was suitably creepy and dour, but it got boring and depressing after a while. I'd like more variation rather than the same sad tune playing repeatedly.
Can't think of any examples off the top of my head, but I'd definitely appreciate something with attitude.
More than anything, we need emergent worlds and not ones filled with predictable routines. I wrote and uploaded an article about this which I hope is approved for the site! The gist is, if developers can continually update their open worlds, it can keep things fresh.
There's no sadder feeling when after hundreds of hours of exploring a world, you want to continue past a mountain or whatever, but can't.
I've yet to play the last two Operation Flashpoints. I know they've got mixed reviews, but I'm sure I'll enjoy them for the simple fact that they'll adhere to the basic ingredients of what made the franchise exciting: walking miles to your destination and getting killed by one lucky bullet!
Unfortunately I haven't played the Arma series, I'm more of a console guy now, and my Macbook probably can't handle anything juicy.
