Sony Killzone Conspiracy Again? (4k argument)
With the reveal of the PS4, Sony clearly has a beautiful piece of new hardware prepared to launch this holiday, but reminiscent of the PS3’s reveal the game Killzone once again comes to the forefront of a conspiracy that Sony is showing off tech demos that their games can’t live up to.
Now, I won’t get into the argument of if Killzone 2 really pulled off equivalent graphics to its tech demo as it is still debatable, but that time has passed. The currently relevant argument is: was Killzone Shadow Fall running in 4k?
So, apparently there is a joystiq interview with Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida where he says that the PS4 will output 4k video, but not games. Yet, this article has no link to the interview, no quotes and is only three lines long. http://www.joystiq.com/2013... And yet in the full interview with eurogamer he states “I think these games were running at 1080p, but I'm no tech person.” http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... (end of interview).
Had that been the system architect stating the PS4 will not run 4k games, then it may have been confirmed, but it wasn’t and we still have these to deal with: http://www.flickr.com/photo... These are 4k images from the game as it was being demoed uploaded by the PlayStation blog team.
If those 4k screenshots are bull shots, then gamers have just been seeing a tech demo all over again on unconfirmed hardware. I personally believe that this was just a slip up on the blog team’s end and Sony was trying to keep 4k games a secret for E3 and pull the wool over MS eyes and let them think they have an advantage. But, if that is not the case have we just been “tech demoed” all over again?
Either way I am personally happy they will include 4k video support for sure, as I got plenty of usage out of my rig and my PS3’s blue ray capabilities at 1080p and plan to at least do the same for 4k. I know that they want to wait until E3 to unveil the actual box likely due to the things that need to be implemented for 4k support like HDMI 2.0, 4k blue rays, and HVEC. But this needs to be clarified directly by Sony or GG.
My biggest problem is, if the hardware can’t push 4k (which I’m sure it can), why would they release screens and demo the game at that resolution after the backlash they had with Killzone 2? Unfortunately, we may not get the answer until E3.

Don't understand how one could think the Killzone thing was reminiscent of the Killzone 2 CGI at all. It was demoed on stage, and then demoed a day later on the Jimmy Fallon show.

"All you have to do is think about the announced specs for a moment. A PC equivalent would be 4GB GDDR5 RAM, 8GB DDR3 main RAM, a 8 core CPU @1.6-1.8Ghz PLUS a discrete graphics chip to help render graphics screens. That APU could handle the 1080p 30+fps 1million object demo by itself. A PC rig that powerful could run today's games at 4k 100+FPS stable http://www.youtube.com/watc... (see his comment about it hitting 90-120FPS without FRAPS), and this is an optimized console. You know the hardware can support it, you know the output can support it, you know the console (actual hardware) is still under wraps, but has a disk format that can support it. My argument was that E3 was their 4k game announcement to surprise MS if they thought they had any advantage at all and the blog team had a slip up and uploaded the original screenshot resolutions that are available no where else. It's just too close to just ignore and say no "we are only doing 1080p 30fps". That is absurd when they know they can push 1080p 60fps with the bat of an eyelash. I honestly believe it is a spoof."
It wasn't about "that's CGI", it was about the fact that it was either: running in 4k and will on the PS4 OR they distributed and demoed something that the hardware that the end user will purchase won't be able to run.
If it don't, then it won't and I'll get my 4k fix through my PC and movies. As a major PC and PS3 gamer, this is a matter of principle for me than anything else.
If my games won't be 4k there should be no 4k content of them available, whatsoever.
....and they delivered better than this demo, despite desperated fanboy did'nt want to believe..
The PS4 definitely has the RAM and bandwidth to pull it off. All Sony would have to do is ask AMD to include the appropriate amount of ROPs on the GPU, right?
How much more powerful is the PS4 to the PS3?
we'll be lucky if 90% of ps4/nextbox games stay at NATIVE 1080p for more than a year, devs will have to start cutting fast to keep up with graphical advances
it happened last gen
alan wake was 960x540
resistence 3 was 980x576
almost all cod games on consoles are 1024x600
halo games before part 4 were 1024x640
yet all launch 360 games were mandated by ms to be 720p
same thing will happen this gen with ps4/720
games will be native 1080p for a year or so, then 900p, then 842p///etc///etc
@FriedGoat
Although it is true that 4 PS3s were GT5 at 4k, GT5 is not as much of a demanding game as Shadow Fall will be.
It's like if the PS3 ran all PS2 games at 1080p/60fps if there were compiled for it for example.

It really looks that good :)
That much, you can't deny.
It means what they presented was 4k or those are bull shots that we are being told are in game.
1.)Many high resolution promotion packages are sent out to media press for both websites or magazines all the time. That doesn't mean the game resolution is 4k.
Take for example, here's some of first promo-shots released for Killzone 3 at 5120 x 2880 resolution.
http://www.gamesteady.com/i...
http://oyster.ignimgs.com/v...
Does this mean Killzone 3 was 2k? No.
2.)Guerilla Games have showed 3 different gameplays for Shadowfall. One being the live demo at the conference, another longer version uploaded later played slightly different. The third played live on television with Jimmy Fallon. Thus showing it is in fact an actual game set to be release on launch day for PS4. Not a tech demo, not a CGI, a game.
3.)Developers can capture an in-game scene with higher resolution than the retail game's actual resolution. There's no rule saying they can't.
4.)Last but not least who said Killzone Shadow Fall was 4k? It was running 1080p at 30fps.
Time to take your tinfoil hat off.
As of right now every single frame you have seen of any PS4 game could have been running on hardware that the PS4 won't be able to match. You can't even be sure that the game will run like that at 1080p.
It's like being sold a sports car with a different engine.
That's why people were up in arms over Killzone 2, regardless of how well the end product turned out.
