RESISTANCE 2 REVEALED with 60 player MP and 8 player Co-op

From NeoGAF user Steve who bought the latest Game Informer that ran a feature on Resistance 2. He states that the game will be a

"HUGE cooperative game... EIGHT-PLAYER story-driven campaign along side single-player campaign. SIXTY-PLAYER Competitive modes... HUGE United States Landscapes as backdrops. It will have huge boss encounters with 8 player co-op over PSN and 2 player local co-op."

Well known user JStevenson from NeoGAF who is an employee of Insomniac has confirmed the information to be true.

Technically you are correct in saying that no FPS on any "console" boasts what Resistance 2 brings to the table. For those that consider the PC to be a console, though, there is Serious Sam 2 which had 16 player Co-Op.

4 player Co-Op is awesome. 8 player Co-Op is f*cking amazing!

Some people are way to quick to praise anything that comes out on PS3 as the game of all games. Give it a rest and let the game speak for itself. It might be true that the more players the more boring it might seem for you and possibly a good amount of gamers in general. However, this is merely saying that it's possible to play 60 MP. You DON'T have to play 60 players.

Regarding co-op, again it's all about possibilities. You DON'T have to play co-op. But the possibility of having 8 co-op is a rare feat and does not harm the game in any way.

Same thing with replayability. Except that there is a good amount of players who like to play campaign mode. It wasn't that long ago that online gaming became big on consoles you know.

And onto the fanboyism, it sure feels like you trying very hard to shed some negativity in all this positive news for PS3 gamers (or maybe gamers in general, one word: competition). Still I'm not gonna call you an xbot or anything. Since you might just be a negative person in general. But all of these features does not hurt the way YOU play your games in any way. All of these feats are OPTIONAL.

@PS3n360 I agree with Skerj, I heard about Resistance when I got my PS3 but didn't purchase it at the time. People were saying it looks very dull and very generic. A few months went by and I decided to try the demo on the PSN and that gives you 2 very cool levels to play with. Eventually I caved and decided to get a cheap copy of it on Ebay. The game begins very slowly, very dull and very generic and then the cooler levels start to come into play after which it never seems to let up until the end.

@TheSadTruth I'm not a huge player of online unless it's an MMORPG like EQ2, I've not once played a game of Resistance online... Yet. But I played through it 2 player co-op and loved every minute of it (Apart from the uncannily well placed grenades by my girlfriend =/) I'll be going through R2 again co-op and probably try out the 8 player co-op online but it's not what I'll be buying R2 for. It does actually have a pretty cool story but more importantly some of the levels in the first one are just damn good fun to play and me and my mates have put many hours into the same levels because the level design is excellent.

Resistance1 was a great game and Resistance2 sounds awesome.

I'm just a realist. The first Resistance was extremely mediocre, and yes I played the entire thing and I'm sure the next one will be too. If Insomniac proves me wrong then that would be nice because I'd like to have something to play on my roommate's PS3.

people this is what happens when a dev gets absolutely no sleep whats so ever. you are able to crank out AAA games year after year on time, november 06 insomniac crunched and spat out the PS3's primeir FPS Resistance and killed just about every launch game released on the PS3, and a majority of the games release on the 360 graphicly... October 2007 They did it again but also reaching unseen levels of graphic quality with the criticly acclaimed Ratchet:TOD giving players for the first time PIXAR graphics and fun play and humor a feat only achievable by Disney with it's pixar movies.... and now

I am very sensitive to motion sickness. Boats, planes, cars (ok if in the front seat or sitting in the back where I can see forward) you name it...I got sick.
Until I found out (thank Mother in law) about this white bracelets that have some kind of metal alloy that STOPS motion sickness instantly. Even if you are already sick, if you put them on...within minutes you feel better. I do not go anywhere without them.

I also use them for FPS...I dont get motion sick anymore.

I would like to point out that on PC 64 players online game exsists (Battlefield) with no lag.

I also would like to point out that SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT had a game named PlanetSide which handled 1000 enemies in 1 area without lag during the time where only dail-up exsisted. I remember playing that game on 56kps Dail up.

So 60 players online is quite possible.

havent you played the update the shotgun is not even half as good as it used to be if you can "shotgun whore" then you might just actually be skilled at the shotgun you cant usually kill people with just one double barrel shot (you can but it has to be aimed reasonably well) and if your exchanging fire the time it takes you to reload your dead

2008 will be a repeat of 2002. The PS2 took alot of flak (that no-one seems to remember) and in 2002 it took off. Just like the Sony Euro boss said a year ago. 2008 will be the PS3's coming out party.

I would have to guess that they were concepts. Perhaps I'm wrong, I just have a strong feeling they're not in game just from the "painterly" quality. Maybe it's just the fact that they're scans from a mag. I have no doubt it's possible for R2 to set a new standard visually and can't wait to see how it looks in motion, I'm just saying these shots look awkward for in game shots, again, maybe I'm wrong, but I happen to have a background in this stuff (BFA in media arts and animation). I must admit with the way the PS3s are rack mounted and clustered to be Warhawk Servers It is easily possible to achieve 60 players!!! And Im guessing Insomniac is learning how to use the SPU's to arrange a high level of split screen and efficient code that can do multiplayer magic onscreen!!.

If I want a 90-man gay f*ck-fest, I'll pop in one of my many high-end PC games. No problem there. 1. The coop campaign is a different campaign with coop in mind when it was designed.

The PS fanbase is very diverse. Thats why you will never see one PS game sell more than 30% to the PS install base. Last gen even GT and FF didn't make it to 20%. A PS console defining FPS was the only genera game that the PS lacked and now it seems Sony has 2 contestants for that role. Halo 3 has sold more than 8 million copies. This shows that about 50% of the x360 installbase has a copy. It is why people say 360 is a FPS console. Look at the most succesfull x360 games sofar. Halo, Gears,Bioshock. Its when you have too many FPS and no variety that it becomes a problem.The PS fanbase as i mention in another thread is as varied as the games it has so you really can't generalise. I am sure alot of PS3 fans in Asia and eastern Europe don't care about this game at all which is about 30-40% of the PS3 installbase.However most of the PS3 owners in western world where FPS are really popular are hyped about this FPS of this caliber.

I completely agree with you. The wii has a couple good games but it just is so attractive to the normal person, and its easily the cheapest console. The thing about the wii is I think it is just "The Thing" right now. Just like how pokemon cards were popular back in the day tahst how the wii is. ok I see a lot of these posts bragging about 60 player online. The fact is 2-3 maps will support 60 player... they need to be big, they need to be expansive. The point is that R2 will run it at 60fps, the point is is that we have the option, the point is is that it can handle it. I am super excited about this game, but we PS fans must realize that because a 60 player online mode doesnt make it great. What makes it awesome is the fact that the first resistance kicked serious a$$.

I dont appreciate the amount of people in here explaining how mediocre the first resistance was. Lets face it, it was one of the best stories since the original Halo. I know what you are trying to say but nothing in the console world competes with 60 player online with dedicated servers for FREE. Nothing. After all what was the last game we remember on xbl that has dedicated servers?

There is no need to hate, nor is there reason to compare it to Gears2 or KZ2 this is time to rejoice as a console gamer. Are we finally able to play online games as our counterpart the PC? First of all its not mindless fraging 303vs30 They said there will be 3 sub classes and have different jobs so every1 will have something to do making it more tactical then halo could ever achieve. Also Res 1 had dedicated servers in all the rank matches so I dont see why they wouldnt have dedicated servers for Res 2 LAG FREE WOOT. For those above saying games don't have this many players without being an MMO. Delta Force 1&2, Land Warrior and Black Hawk Down all had up to 62 MP support. Delta Force 2 had 62 in 1998 when people were still on dial up and the battfield was endless and Black Hawk Down came out one Xbox with 50pl. Remember do some RESEARCH <---Google is your friend

Xbox360 fans don't get mad and bash this game just because it is a PS3 exclusive. You know even if Insomniac wanted to release it for Xbox360 (why not? more money for them) they just simply cannot do it. It is impossible to fit that 2 huge campaigns into a tiny DVD, and your 360 hardware is not powerful enough to handle that insane 60 people multiplayer, 8 people co-op, top-notch AI, physics, and jaw-dropping graphics without giving you 3 red rings of death or more. If other game studios follow Insomniac and raise the standards of future games to Resistance 2's level, I guess it will be pretty hopeless for you guys. But it's not that difficult to solve you problems..... buy a freaking PS3.
