Insider: Exclusive information about 2.40 and beyond

Things can change a lot, especially when it involves Sony. If any of the information is wrong, its because plans have changed and not because it was made up.

* 2.40 will allow you to access your XMB chat features from every game.
* 2.40 will also include 2D trophies from the XMB where 70% of current titles will support them straight away
* Video Coding and groundwork for the Movie Store (Out Sept)

My insider notes however that not all of the above may make it before Metal gear Solid comes out.

Oh and Super Stardust HD will have Online Co-op sometime soon.

I'm sure that everyone remembers that. The only difference is that Sony specifically said that in-game communication was coming in this update. It is the extent of the communication allowed that is in question. This info helps to shed some light on it. As the writer stated, anything can change about the details, but in-game communication is coming.

It would be a nice addition , but let's not get ahead of ourselves , there are more important and overdue things like in game xmb . I couldnt care less about about putting unsuitable for a game music personally .

for the full range of the XMB available in-game. Not all game music is necessarily suitable either. For example, Gran Turismo. I can't stand the music in GT5:P, and pretty much every racer or fighting game could be more fun with your own personal music. I wouldn't use it on games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, GTAIV, etc. I just want full in-game XMB.

I hope Trophies really are in the update. Achievements on the 360 are a great thing and I miss 'em on the PS3.

I was surprised the number of games supporting them is as high as 70%. I was expecting it to be around 25-35%, with many devs patching it in later.

I think its definetly coming out before Socom which is probably the only game I care about now(besides MGS4). Sony has said that its coming out in update 2.4 and we are already at 2.35 so Im sure its just around the corner. We probably will see it mid July latest.

Only those who got the game on release were able to update their consoles, the rest didnt get it until a thursday, dont remember if it was on the same week or later. Maybe MGS4 will have an update for trophies since that is what Konami was pushing Sony for. The rest might come a couple of weeks later. I think if anything that would be the worst case scenerio if we dont get it all at once and before june 12. Im thankfull for anything extra we get. Im still busy with GTA4, now this week Haze and only a couple of weeks before MGS4, man I wish days were longer and weekends lasted 3 days.

Anyway, both MS and Sony are gonna have to swallow a few hard to swallow pills if they want their consoles to be perfect. Sony is gonna have to pay MSFT for in-game music, while MSFT is gonna have to pay Sony for Blu-ray (and a decent D-pad, for a change).
