PS3 Submitted to FCC Feb 19th 2008 for 'parts changes'

New changes (under confidentiality cloak still) are coming to the PS3.

They are 'Changing the model name and PARTS other than wireless module'...

My guess is a new SKU that is suppose to replace the premium 80GB model that has been phased out. The point of the FCC filing is submission of changes that will not affect the RF profile of the device, so the new device should still have the same RF capabilities as the previous PS3s.

They also seem to maintaining the change for their debugging station for the PS3, which I would assume is the diagnostic or development module for the PS3.

Sony constantly refines the hardware. They always have. I'm sure there will be a day when they get the components inside the system reduced to where they'll be able to reduce the form factor.

The size is the only gripe I have with the system and I am positive the slim/lite version of the PS3 along with a price drop will sell in ridiculous numbers. Hell, even I'll be buying the slim/lite even though I have a 60G.

Not wireless, sounds like a HDD upgrade...and possible 65 nm in both GPC and Cell (40 gig version has 65 nm only on the cell chip, not GPU).

My guess would be removal of the ps2 hardware to futher cut production costs and increase the HDD. I imagine they'll keep the memory card readers 4 usb drives n such but remove ps2 backwards compatibility and increase HDD to say 160GB (gotta be above the 360) and a $100 price cut to boot $299 40gig $399 160gig both will come packed in with a Blu-ray movie and game!

40 gig model has already removed all vestiges of the PS2 from the PS3
I would suspect that the biggest change is HDD+ and 65nm for both chips (and possibly a new model with PS2 BC)
No price cut but more features.

i have to agree with there being no price cut. price cut = a ton of money lost for sony due to customers only looking to the ps3 for it's bluray capabilities

I think sony is bringing back the EE chip in something with a bigger HDD, also they will be dumping six axis for dual shock 3 in the deal.

It makes sense, the 60 gig ran to hot and needs a bigger HDD, the 80 gig was NOT fully BC and both need the 65nm chip.

And with this convergence in the force it would clearly and certainly bring forth and restore balance. It has been foretold.

yea i will also add that dual shock 3 will be in there and 65nm cell and rsx chips....they're not going to re ad the EE and software emulation doesn't suck y would u say that? it works for like 85% of the ps2 games....160GB, new chips, ds3, price reduction, movie and game pack in! my guesses

Just check the various PC's and other electronic devices. They change the CD / DVD drives make and models, the memory chips, some of the other chips etc. It is parts. Sometimes because of better pricing, sometimes because the one manufacturer is discontinuing the part etc.

Sounds like they found a way to get cheaper parts without effecting the quality, a price drop is always welcome FOR ANY GAMER.
