Rumor: PlayStation XMB soon to be advanced

"Well I might have some great news for PLAYSTATION 3 owners, my friend's uncle at SCEJ gave me a insight of a new XMB which will be released after PLAYSTATION Home in late 2008 (ear by ear)...

You all remember the video of the PLAYSTATION 3 XMB being something like you see in Minority Report but on screen? The PLAYSTATION 3 might be getting the interactive XMB and all you need is the PLAYSTATION Eye. You will be able to browse through your friends list, music, movies, games etc using your hand movements...cool huh!"

What i ask you guys is...if its true, would interactivity between the XMB and PLAYSTATION Eye interest you?

You can do a lot more with the Playstation eye coupled with the cell processor than you can with a Wii remote.

if they integrate it with PSBrain, a device you wear on your heads, and then control the XMB just by thinking. Really, we have the technology as of now. Besides, the hand movement control is really hard to use.......

...an in-game XMB. However, it needs to have a low footprint in terms of resources and stay true to the main XMB Sony uses on the PS3 and PSP. I would hate to call up the XMB during a game and have to wait as it loaded or it performed sluggishly.

If you need to see an example of how a good XMB works then just look at the one on the 360 after their lastest fall update. Its fast (almost too fast!) and does everything you need it to.

I am sure the PS3 will get there - we just have to be patient.

I actually think this idea is really cool! Would be nice if you could use the standard XMB or Enhanced so those who don't want to use motion gestures don't have too.

In fact, in the very first issue of Playstation: The Official Magazine, the lead creator of the Eye mentioned this. He also talked of being able to play games like this. One of the things he also talked about was a glove device with sensors on each fingertip to help the Eye track movements more precise for applications such as this.

I know it sounds weird and far fetched, but it wasn't that long ago when Sony applied for a patent involving a glove with "motion sensing" technologies.

I go to a predominantly IT(information technology) college and ps3 gets so much crap from most of the kids here because microsoft sponors us a lot and most of the kids here are halo freaks but this would be an awesome reason for me to face my screen toward the door with it wide open and watch their mouths drop like when they saw remote play for the first time

It would be fun to use gestures but the fact is the XMB needs to be redone, simplified and a joy to use like the iPhone/iTouch.

The current XMB is too complex with its large nested levels.

A better menu system should have no more than 4 mouse or controller clicks to achieve a particular task (eg. from a PC point of view the first click options should be Application, File Manager, System, Favourites).

Then throw in the EyeToy and you have a real winner.

I have the new PS3 Eye and think it's great with SingStar.
I would love to be able to control the XMB with hands, it's technically possible for the Sony London Studios. But it WONT happen anytime soon.

It would require XMB memory resources-however as we all know Sony Japan are working on giving us in-game XMB. This is the priority. Once they get this out the door, then they might consider it.

Oh, this site is filled with unacquainted fanboys. It's funny because I'm one of the few that actually own all 3 next gen consoles and when I complain about a particular feature (or lack thereof), it comes from a genuine experience I had.
