Highly unlikely. More recent consoles were made with such bulk that they are super cheap 20 years down the line as they're very easy to find. Even boxed and new they generally only pull a little extra over a used version. Most reasonable collector's would open it anyways to insure that it works. Kind of a downfall to buying factory new retro consoles as a collector, although there are ways to mitigate the used status.

The only ones that really raise significantly are those limited edition versions that come out, which isn't really what this is. If it were one of those white ones given to Xbox staff and they never release a white version, then it will be worth quite a bit in 20 years.

I guess you don't realize how advanced the PS4 was at the time ? I ain't gonna lie my parents bought me a PS3 for 600 dollars when I was 10. I was so happy, now I'm 17 going on 18 next month and I buy my own consoles and I won't buy an Xb1 for 500.

You can buy a "day one edition" for $500 or you can buy it used in "very good" condition for $400. Or a new One with Titanfall for $450. Or a used One Titanfall bundle for $400! This is a "news story" that is as old and "lame" as a satire story. Everyone already knows about this!

Its not a markup, but rather the same price as it was on the original day one. I agree they may have held them for a later markup but they likely realized they could not sell it at a markup. There is an excellent thread at Gaf discussing the MS earning reports and the shipped in numbers reported by MS. There are likely between 800K and 1Mil X1s sitting on shelves. This is why retailers have been running a fire sale.

Not sure these were held by Amazon as I saw this version in stock a few weeks back along with the other XOne versions and PS4 versions. It just hasn't sold, people are picking up TItanfall over this if they want the XBox. These would have sold out in January at the latest considering a limited amount was produced for launch in November.

Seems Microsoft shipped far too many. Would have been smarter to bundle a game right out of the box with an asking price as high as $500. That said, I imagine this pack is basically being completely overshadowed by the Titanfall bundle. And obviously the PS4 in general.

More likely MS just didn't send out their entire stock. Maybe withheld 1-2% for some reason, then decided to sell them to retailers. I've never known Amazon to play the collector's market game in this way. I could see it from GameStop.

As I recall, Amazon was sold out of X1 briefly early on before they moved onto the non-day one editions.

I'm guessing Amazon are bulk buying them from smaller outlets which might be overstocked. That way Amazon can probably turn a healthy profit since they are probably buying them at very low prices.

This a good reason not to label a product a day 1 edition, just in the event it's not a good seller! It actually looks bad for the product if consumers keep up to date as to when the product originally released.

At this point I don't think it'd be wise to purchase a day one unless the purchaser was into collecting. It would potentially have all the risk of launch issues that non-day ones, at this point, don't have or shouldn't have. i.e. bad disk drive

Even as a collector, I'd want to open it and make sure it works, so the fact that it's new is not that appealing to me. I've been burned by buying a brand new retro console that didn't work despite being factory sealed. Was a launch Genesis and brought it for quite a lot due to it being sealed. Guy wouldn't refund the money since I opened it.:(

It's quite the conundrum of someone selling doesn't want to break the seal of a new collector's item, and as a buyer you don't want to drop money on something that doesn't actually work.

Just having all the original packaging is sufficient enough for me, although I do know collector's who really like brand new stuff, and faulty ones aren't terribly common. At huge markups though, it's a risk I wouldn't be willing to take. I doubt something like this is going to see a return on the purchase price as anything new post-PS1 generation doesn't command a huge mark up anymore.

This is good for those who want a X1 and couldn't afford to pick up a Day One edition at launch, but this is hardly news worthy.

The power of N4G. Abriael has been doing this since the lead up to the new console generation.

He posts a false positive Xbox One article, forcing a story out of nothing, cleverly worded to seem like he's doing Xbox fans a favor, but it's really to draw in trolls.

After he's finished getting hits with that article, and it appears that he's not completely bias, the next day he creates a shiny glowing PS4 article (like he did just now about the "revolutionary" AR tech) filled with words that make it seem like the PS4 is the second coming.

Brilliant, but only viable in the short term. Dualshockers couldn't stand on its own feet without N4G. Sooner or later people will catch on, realize they're being used for hits, and they'll lose the little credibility they have. I've seen a few good articles from them, but the amount of click bait they pump out is unreal.

I say let this website make their buck. It won't last for long.

@above: Is there any difference between "launch" PS4 packaging and current packaging? I think there may have been a revision of the games/screens on the back, but the overall design is identical. I believe those Amazon launch bundles were just standard consoles with an included physical game, whereas the X1s are packaged with identifying "Day One" boxes (and the achievement). So unless MS sent Amazon a batch of "Day Ones" *after* 11/22, the "Day One" X1s currently listed are definitely left over Amazon stock from last year, while the PS4 "launch bundles" are most likely just a seller's bundle that is shipping with newly received shipments of consoles.

Of course, this line of simple logic doesn't even need to be explored, considering that Amazon SOLD OUT their stock of PS4s a few times over Nov/Dec.

I sold my Xbox One Day One Edition for $450 and used the Day One achievement code. I then used the money to buy an Xbox One Titanfall bundle with a $60 gift card that was supposed to be used for 1 year of Live. I put that money towards MLB 14 for the PS4 since I already have Live. I win!

These would have been available regardless of how many were sold. They hold so many back to replace defective units and this very common its just more noticeable when dayone is printed on it. Sony does the same thing to replace defective units but since this is marked day on they have to hold onto them so long to replace the ones coming back. This is good news as it means there is not going to be any initial rash of console failures like last gen. Leave it to these sites to twist a common industry policy for customer service into a negative. Get real guys and play your games.
