When this year started, as sure as Cole McGrath would always have electricity flowing through his veins, I was sure I would be declaring “2011: The year of PlayStation 3”. With the system prices reasonable for most, a PlayStation exclusive lined up for nearly every month, and Xbox’s only counter offense being Gears of war 3; it sure seemed to be the clear saying. The entire plot was in line for Sony to sell more consoles and reclaim the spotlight in the core gamer conversation.
Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.
Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.
Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."
Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.
2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.
2012 you say? No where. The world ends.
I think this article is well written from the view of a Sony fan in the US. ;) You could have mentioned and expanded on the international and economic conditions of the world as applied to Sony. I'm pretty sure Kevin Butler's humor isn't in Japan and other non-US countries.
sony is not really going anywhere.
in america, xbox will be the average gamer's leading platform while the rest of the world plays the ps3.
sony's marketing team for the US division really sucks, but they still advertise.
part of the problem is that american retailers favors the xbox.
the ones Ive noticed are walmart, target, and best buy. while gamestop, toys r us, frys, and amazon are more equal.
u guys read the newspaper?
the weekly ads show sales of the xbox after xbox after xbox, and ps3 shows up once in a while.
while the other group advertise equally.
I dont know if its the retailers for sure, or if its coordinated with Ms/sony.
some walmarts and targets sold ps3 version of games like batman arkham city, while other stores didnt. but all of them carried the xbox version. at least in their retail department.
sony should do something about this trend or they will continously be outsold by the xbox in america.
I think the Vita only stretches Sony's ability to deliver, even going into the new year.
Hopefully they don't mess it up, they can't afford 2 handheld flops.
