Should you buy the 3G or Wi-Fi Vita?

With today being the first of February, I got my excitement for Vita levels up again. So I decided to create another helpful post for you on what Vita is best for you. I will create a small list of scenarios below to help you decide which one is better for you. I will try my best to keep them simple and explain a few in more detail if I think necessary.

Throughout the guide you will see something like "^3". This means I have written more information on them at the end of the guide. (Mobile, Next-Gen, PS Vita)

Nice comparison, I personally went with the 3G early bundle since they upgraded it to come with the 8gb memory stick instead. And I can use the data when I'm traveling to events.

I'm going with Wi-Fi.

a) I cannot afford a monthly subscription.
b) Is there really any need for 3G? Only real difference is I'd be able to play the Vita at work/college which tends to have contested internet...

I'm probably wrong...

In the UK there is a company called GiffGaff. For 3GB it's £12.50 and lasts you a month. The best bit about it is that it's not a contract, you top up when you want, they don't just take it. That's the only reason I can afford it. :P

I live in the UK too you know, and I cant afford it ;P

I use GiffGaff! But I only spend £10 and get unlimited data o_o

You don't have to pay for a monthly subscription with the 3G model. It's optional.

But then whats the point in buying the 3G model if you aint even gonna use the 3G?

you can buy the 3G, and get GPS for free. and then not think about the 3G for a while..and meybe if u find out that u can afford the 3G u'll try it out..keep in mind if u buy a wifi model u won't be able to use 3G ever..unless u buy another vita with 3G... u can use a phone as hotspot, but then again u'll have to carry around more than needed.

i'm getting the 3G..and i have no plans on using 3G as of now..but it will come in handy meybe few months..6 months meybe a year later when i find out that this is a good time to try out the 3G.

I was asking myself the same but ended up getting the Wi-Fi version. Why? cuz with the 3G you can't play Games and I already have a cellphone that I can't turn into a hotspot whenever/wherever I want. Also I was tempted by the Launch Bundle since it come with a 8GB MC but after doing some math its cheaper getting the Wi-Fi with the 8GB separately.

Other thing that stopped me for getting the 3G is that I already have enough bills(Car, Cellphone, College) to gett another one. And of course cuz is AT&T.

With the economy in really bad shape and everything becoming so expensive you have to play smart and reduce costs. So the Wi-Fi version is the best option in my opinion.

WiFi

- Higher price for 3G model

- AT&T Sucks

- I don't need another account/bill

- Hotspots almost everywhere

- My phone can be a hotspot

- If I use by phone's hotspot, I can (in theory) play games across that 3G connection since it looks like WiFi to the Vita

Playing games over you phone hotspot... that's a really good point actually. But I don't really trust my phones battery.

Either Wifi, or wait for the redesigned 4G model :P

I will probably buy the 3G-version even though I will only ever use it in WiFi-Mode but I am not willing to miss out on GPS which is only in the 3G-version. I have no idea if it will ever be usefull, but I'd hate to find out 6 months in that GPS would have been nice. I am aware that there is an alternative wifi-positioning-system included but somehow i don't trust the accuracy of this system.

Wifi Vita with free Uncharted, can't beat that deal.
Along with all the other First Edition perks.

WiFi PS Vita all the way.
Razongunz  +   1153d ago
there isnt much difference in them..the wifi is good enough.

i went with the 3G..not for any particular reason..its just a tiny bit better so why not?

i won't be using 3G at first..but who knows..meybe there are some games in the future or som software releases that will be awesome with 3g.. and its ofc better to have 3G that not..even if u don't need it..the only problem is the money.. i only py a measly 50 bucks extra and then i'll see how often i'll se 3G :P.. + i don't have a 3g phone so this will be my first 3g device aswell. i'm hyped about the release aswell. and its nearly here .. :D

i'm not short on money so i would prefer to have the 3G and not use the 3G than not have the 3G but what to use it.

My thoughts exactly. I'm also getting the 3G bundle.
tarbis  +   1153d ago
My PSV is wi-fi only. 3G in our country is crap, no sense getting the 3G version.
Plagasx  +   1153d ago
I have a smart phone and I won't be playing online really so I definitely will be getting the Wifi version..
