Will some Xbox gamers jump ship to PS4

With Sony and Microsoft aiming to release consoles within close proximity of each other, the question is raised whether some Xbox gamers will switch over to PS4 instead of Xbox next.

Of course...just like some PS3 gamers will jump ship to the Xbox 720.

"I think the full title should really be. "Will they jump ship because Microsoft failed core gamers in the last years of Xbox 360"."

I think the full title should really be. "Will they jump ship because it is now known that Sony offers MORE varied exclusive titles on their gaming consoles than Microsoft does."

It is UNQUESTIONABLE that the PS3 offers more exclusive titles than the 360. No one can deny this. But that doesn't automatically mean that the 360 has failed core gamers. Core gamers love to play multiplatform games as well...and Microsoft has offered that in spades. You could even make the argument that the 360 is the core gamers console of choice since there is more weekly online activity on XBL than PSN.

We can't assume that core gamers MUST be interested in exclusives titles, because that simply isn't true.

In my experience of owning a website video game forum, and visiting sites like this and others,.....

I've noticed that most 360 owners aren't as snobby, and have both or all three of the consoles, and pretty much just game.

But the PS3 hardcore fans, only do the Sony family, and only play on their PS3 or Sony product.

So I'd imagine yes, 360 fans will also buy a PS4, as well as their Nextbox, because they like to game. And obviously the PS4 will have great games when it comes out someday. But we're only half way in the Sony 10 Year plan, so Sony fans, there's no needs to worry about a PS4 coming out.

Right?

Majin-vegeta4500d ago

* But we're only half way in the Sony 10 Year plan, so Sony fans, there's no needs to worry about a PS4 coming out.*

Jeezus christ how can so many people not understand that the 10 year life cycle for PS3 means that they will be supporting it doesn't mean they are gonna release the PS4 in 10 years.

FragMnTagM4500d ago

Well said. I am not exclusively loyal to any one system. I enjoy laying games. Although the XBOX is my preferred console at the moment, I enjoy my PS3, PC, 3DS, and PSP.

Who's to say the next Playstation will or will not be my preferred console? We need to find out some specs and features before making these decisions.

Biggest4500d ago

"Core gamers love to play multiplatform games as well...and Microsoft has offered that in spades."

Can you not see how that makes no sense? Microsoft didn't deliver ANYTHING on the multiplatform front. They received multiplatform games the same way the PS3 received them.

grifter0244500d ago

Majin- So they are going to basically gave a slap in the face to all the people that bought a ps3?

Yeah they will keep supporting it but for how long? The ps2 was being supported for a long time but be serious how many people have you heard bragging and cheering that they just bought a brand new ps2?

Abash4500d ago

I dont want a next gen console any time soon, but I have a lot more interest in a PS4 than a 720. I guess Im just a PlayStation gamer because I love Uncharted, inFamous, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, and Starhawk was just added to the list

ApplEaglElephant4500d ago

Mostly because 360 had more exclusives 2007 to 2008.

And you have no clue calling PS3 fanboys "snobbier". 360 fanboys were beyond this world back in 2008. I once posted a thread asking if i should by PS3 back then and 360 fanboys swarmed the crap out it.

Funny thing is, not many people defended PS3 because they acknowledged that they lacked games back in 2008, but now 360 lacks exclusives desperately and 360 fanboys still defend to them to death.

in my experience, ive never seen fanboys that are so blind, fanatical and unreasonable as 360 fanboys. Just look around.

Only thing that has changed is that those 360 fanboys have nothing to brag about.

slayorofgods4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

The xbox and playstation are entering a new generation.......

A few gamers will upgrade blindly to the next console of their brand. But the vast majority are going to need a game or game library in order to upgrade. 300 - 500 bucks is a lot to drop, so most people are going to research which console is actually better more then just the name brand.

In a few years the 360 vs PS3 will be completely irrelevant.

darthv724500d ago

I know many may not afford the cost of gaming as a whole but it doesnt stay expensive forever. Just as there were plenty of PS2 gamers that bought into the 360 before the PS3 came out. There are quite a few PS3 gamers getting the 360 now.

Prices have come down to where it is affordable to play both (or all 3 if you count the wii). It may start off expensive (hardware) but at some point everyone feels comfortable in their own situation to step outside their zone and pick up the other platforms.

The whole "jump ship" thing is overblown.

tehpees34500d ago

It depends on how Microsoft go about things. If they do their casual focus they almost certainly will.

sikbeta4500d ago

The online community on Xbox is huge, don't think they'll swap, for that N or Sony need to do all what MS Live does and for Free, not seeing it happening...

Brosy4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

The 360 has kept me satisfied. I have had no desire to buy a PS3. So they have more exclusives, most are mediocre and don't sell well anyway. 360 has Live and it's much better than PSN. Not to mention multiplats perform better on the 360.

It would be a screw up by Microsoft rather than anything Sony can do, that would make me go for a PS4. Like if MS went too casual. I guess though if Sony tried trojan horsing another expensive media format with the PS4 would cause me not to buy a PS4 as well. I'm just not a Sony fan any longer. They are too crooked, inefficient, and full of sh*t. I also detest sony fanboys they are another reason I don't care for sony. Most are emo, japanophiles, that have a weird lust for anything sony.

Meanwhile I can look forward to hot graphics, exclusive content, all playing on the world class Live. It's hard to beat the best and I don't think sony can do it.

EVILDEAD3604500d ago

The Next box is in a way better position than the original Xbox was 6-7 years ago.

The millions and millions of core 360 gamers who spend 100s of hours playing their favorite games on the 360, earned achievemnets, have huge friends lists, love playing the 360 exclusives and multi-plats over Live simply arent going to drop their account and everything they have accrued over the years just because the PS4 is in stores.

Many eventually may own a Wii-U or a PS4, but early adopters of both the 360 and the S4 will be the core base.

If Kinect stays smoking hot and is somehow improved or upgraded next gen then 720 will have adoption from a wide range of gamers as well.

Especially, if this Windows 8 vision comes to fruition.

@applegle...

Fanboy just don't see anything period, regardless if they are x360/ps3 fanboy. There is no better or worst fanboy. They changes tones or reaction depend on how their console of choice are doing.

mindedone4500d ago

"I've noticed that most 360 owners aren't as snobby, and have both or all three of the consoles, and pretty much just game."

Wouldn't that make them PS3 owners as well? If most 360 owners are PS3 owners, and there are more 360 owners than PS3 owners, that mathematically means that most PS3 owners are 360 owners, and aren't as snobby as PS3 owners, and have both or all three of the consoles, and pretty much just game.

moparful994500d ago

@Endoran "I've noticed that most 360 owners aren't as snobby, and have both or all three of the consoles, and pretty much just game."

Do you not see how this is a contradiction?? Why cant it be ps3 owners choosing to own the other two console? Its obvious where your allegiances lie and I can actually offer proof in the contrary.. I have a rather large group of close friends and most of them own 360's, they heckle me and generally talk trash about the ps3 despite knowing very little about them.. They still have this perception that the ps3 doesn't have ne games.. But this Small slice of the 360 populace does not reflect the entire fanbase as a whole..

I love how you throw out sterotypes to defend your console of choice.. Your comment only belies the fact that you are no better then the "sony snobs" that you are condemning...

NegativeCreepWA4500d ago

As far as fan boys go, I see it like this.

PC = Snobby
PS= Belligerent
360= just like to talk s#%t for the heck of it or to make PS fan boys throw fits.

Kurt Russell4500d ago

I'll probably buy all the next gen consoles... starting with the one that is out first.

MysticStrummer4499d ago (Edited 4499d ago )

You got a Well Said for that? Amazing. PS3 owners must be snobby because they only own that console, huh? It couldn't possibly be that they don't feel they need another because PS3 fills their gaming needs just fine? Your understanding of the 10 year plan is also comical, but sure... well said... ffs. EDIT - lol I didn't even think about mindedone's mathematical point. THAT deserves a Well Said.

I can't imagine anyone that I know, even people who own a 360, who would give up their free psn and sick exclusives for a third party machine. Get good noobs.

Hercules1894500d ago

does the ps3 have halo or gears. the killzone series will never be able to match the content that halo has. and uncharted is a decent game but doesnt have the longevity of gears. so even though microsoft doesnt have as much exclusives as ps3 the ones they do are so much more focused on giving you more bang for your buck

What? How determines bang for buck? The fact that more kids play Gears of war= more bang for buck? I bet i can get into a U2 room with no problmes and play for along time. Just grasping at straws here

lastdual4500d ago

And yet, look at the early years of the PS3. There was a time when MS had plenty of exclusives and "PS3 has no games" was the common conception, but people still bought PS3s. They loved their PS2s, and trusted Sony to eventually get things together.

I wouldn't underestimate brand loyalty. There are plenty who like Live, prefer the 360 controller to the dualshock, etc. MS certainly has more fans now than they did with the original Xbox. Plus they'll likely pump up the number of exclusives for the first few years following console launch, as that's when exclusive software has the biggest impact.

Some people will jump ship, some people will buy every console, and some people will drop out of gaming altogether, but there's no way MS is in a weaker position today than 6 years ago.

Core gamers "care about games", not just "exclusives while ignoring multiplatform games" so I don't think that is an issue at all.

If it was, we would have seen a significant shift already, but the latest WW sales numbers says otherwise.

dcbronco4500d ago

Stop making sense. That doesn't fly here.

I actually think the reason people have concentrated on Kinect is because it's new tech. But I believe the next Xbox will really open up it's ability. MS was trying to open up new markets just like Nintendo did. I don't own a Kinect, but the footage from ME3 makes me consider it. It seems to work really smoothly. Kinect will be used for more hardcore games and a lot of this will go away.

But I think another reason MS doesn't have a lot of exclusives is that they weren't expecting a 7 or 8 year cycle. No one was. Rumors have been out there for years that games for the 360 have been moved to the next generation. I think they are working on a one year head start again over Sony with a polished, extensive and varied group of launch titles. Things that will push ten million consoles in the first year.

Biggest4500d ago

"Core gamers "care about games", not just "exclusives while ignoring multiplatform games" so I don't think that is an issue at all."

So core gamers care about games, but not about more games? Obviously they won't ignore multiplatform games. But using the statement you made, wouldn't it make sense that core gamers would want to have more games? Or do they only care about some games? How does it work?

PetitPiPi4500d ago

Biggest

Most gamers have no need for 10 games a year. It's the people with nothing else better to do that need 50 games a year. I have the perfect word to describe these people but this is obviously not the place to do so. Are you one of these people Biggest? ;)

StrongMan4500d ago

Uh, you do know Kinect and it's games ARE exclusives........right?

sikbeta4500d ago

Exclusives DO matter, thing is when they matter? at the beginning of every generation and first few years, that's when those game drive sales and make consumers jump in

Want an example? GT3, Gran Turismo 3 was available right after the PS2 lauch, what it did for the console is well known, that's what Sony forgot

No one is going to buy a PS3 for, let say, TM 5 years from launch because there are so many games out there that just only one exclusive doesn't make a difference.

That's something SCE needs to realize and by the next launch be sure to use those 20 Studios for good and have exclusives available right away, so people don't have to wait at least a year to play something good (Drake's Fortune for PS3 in this case)

But Heavenly Sword? yeah, right, totally worth buying a $600 console for a 4hs game, but R:FOM? because playing the same game for a year, not because you want it so much, but beacse there is nothing else, totally worth, come on people

You can love PlayStation and all, but you cannot defend every wrong they make

@biggest

***So core gamers care about games, but not about more games? Obviously they won't ignore multiplatform games. But using the statement you made, wouldn't it make sense that core gamers would want to have more games?***

I think they do, but only when the offering is slim to begin with. As it is now, there are far too many games released on an annual basis in addition to the hundreds of games that are already out there.

I also believe gamers care more about quality, than quantity. An example of this for me is Gears of War 3. I have been playing it non-stop online since release and probably won't stop playing it for some time. That means, there is little time for other games, because it brings such a quality experience to keep me busy for so long.

Only recently did I pick up Mass Effect again in anticipation of ME3. I still have a huge backlog of games including Rage, Uncharted, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dead Space 2, KZ3, Halo: CEA, Gunstringer and a host of other games. Even if I narrow that list of backlogs to one platform, I still have far too many to play for the next coming year.

So do I care that there are more games released? Probably not at all unless it is very unique.... I'm swamped, and if you all aren't, you likely have a lot of time on your hand or have a very narrow taste in games.

MrBeatdown4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

@gamingdroid

"I think they do, but only when the offering is slim to begin with. As it is now, there are far too many games released on an annual basis in addition to the hundreds of games that are already out there."

That's an overly simplistic way of looking at it. Not every game is for everyone, and just because a good game is out there, it doesn't mean people wouldn't rather play a better one or one in a genre they prefer. There's plenty of quality games out there I don't play, not because I don't have time, but because I don't have any interest in them.

I love arcade racers. I get one more on PS3 because of MotorStorm. I love open world games as well, so I had Infamous 2 to play this year. Even with all the games out there, I'd take that arcade racer over just about any shooter. I'd have a good enough selection if neither ever existed, but I'm happier because they do.

And there's tons of quality shooters out there like Battlefield or Call of Duty, but I'm playing Crysis 2 right now. I would have been happy playing either of the first two, but I'm enjoying that third, less obvious choice far more. Did I need EA to release that third option? No. I would have had a ton to play without it. But I wouldn't be better off without it.

The "we don't need it" idea could apply to every game everyone has ever asked for. Do we need GTAV, Resident Evil 6, Halo 4, Last of Us, Assassin's Creed 3, or any other big game this year? No. I need them like I need a hole in the head. I'm sure both you and I have plenty to play without them. But clearly, more choice and variety is better and those games are going to the top of a lot of people's to-buy lists regardless of how much time or how big of a backlog we have.

As long as the games can find an audience and a decent amount of success, I don't see the point in saying what we have now is good enough, or trying to draw a line between what is and what isn't necessarily, when it could always be better and provide more choice and variety.

kaveti66164500d ago

My biggest problem with PS3 fanboys is when they say that 360 gamers have "no games to play."

They're right when they say that the PS3 has more games and better games, is a reliable, more powerful machine, a better value with more options, etc. But when they say that 360 gamers have "no games to play," I don't know, it just sort of raises my blood pressure.

360 fanboys should stop pretending that PS3 gamers can't play multiplatform titles (except the one or two that are unplayable like Skyrim, which isn't very good on 360, either), and PS3 fanboys should stop pretending that 360 gamers have no games to play. Sure, PS3 exclusives are great, but let's not pretend that 360 only owners are wondering what to play on their 360s.

I hate the "my 360 is collecting dust" claim as well. First of all, your console collects dust whether you use it or not. Secondly, if you really don't see yourself using your 360 anytime soon, get rid of it. Sell it or throw it away. Stop letting the world know that you're a remorseful consumer.

moparful994500d ago

Most of the "core" gamers that you are identifying in this response already have at least one or the other while the rest have both.. If core gamers were flocking to the 360 as you are implying then why did the 360 get bullied in sales up until the christmas shopping season?? The only logical explanation for this is kinect.. Microsoft knew that they had "tapped" the core audience and decided to pursue the casual market and its showing.. Lack of original first party exclusives.. They've been pushing kinect very hard and for the most part kinect games are casual affairs and the only "core" elements of kinect are voice commands in games like ME3 and Ghost recon... Its fair to say that we're seeing role reversals.. Sony whent from being the "all around" device to the "core" device.. There's nothing wrong with that revelation but people make this whole ordeal out to be a bigger even then it really is.. The truth is both consoles are alive and well and will survive the entire span of this generation...

gamingdroid4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

@moparful99

***If core gamers were flocking to the 360 as you are implying then why did the 360 get bullied in sales up until the christmas shopping season??***

Earlier in the year, the Xbox 360 actually had the lead WW as well. Over the summer, Sony gained some ground, then lost it again during Christmas despite a price cut in August.

That said, MS penetration in the US market among the core is pretty much tapped at this point so yeah, they are going after the casual market which makes sense. They are now prepping a new console for the core in 2013 it seems (at least I'm convinced).

***They've been pushing kinect very hard and for the most part kinect games are casual affairs and the only "core" elements of kinect are voice commands in games like ME3 and Ghost recon...***

Well, MS is trying to push the upcoming Fable: The Journey as well as Ryse. They have attempted others, that wasn't very successful.

However, I think they also face the stigma attached with Kinect. A lot of the games are fun, but it seems many core gamers are sensitive to how they look when playing....

***Sony whent from being the "all around" device to the "core" device..***

That isn't really surprising, as their price wouldn't really fly with the casual audience. They were essentially forced to capture the core market.

***The truth is both consoles are alive and well and will survive the entire span of this generation...***

I couldn't agree more! In fact, the situatio is the best it has ever been and I hope it continues like this in the next generation in terms of WW marketshare. Competition is very healthy and produced so much innovation this generation.

@dredgewalker

Because your PC isn't a console in experience

If you count exclusives, the PC actually by far has the most of any system. Yet, it isn't the "go to" for gaming these days is it?

dredgewalker4500d ago

If a console doesn't have any exclusive games then why should I buy a console when I can play everything on my pc?

dredgewalker4499d ago

@Droid

The pc doesn't need to be the "go to" gaming system because it is an important part of the modern household. It's only logical to have one gaming system if every system out there offers the same thing, but the pc will always offer the superior version of a multiplat game if you have a decent rig. Though I do agree with the advantage of the simplicity of operating a console and there are games that I can only play with friends whenever we have our fighting and racing sessions. Anyway this is just my personal opinion since the console community here is small compared to the pc community. In relevance to the topic, I think brand loyalty must never be underestimated so I don't think many xbox users will shift to Sony.

MariaHelFutura4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

IMO, if you can afford it... buy all the next gen consoles as soon as possible to avoid missing ANY of the gaming gems our industry has to offer. If you had to pick just one I would say a PS. Why? Because Sony OWNS the most and some of the best developers in the industry. Their platforms will rarely have a shortage of exclusive games past the launch window, do to OWNING 20+ studios only making games for their platform. Asides from that.... Buy them all, so you don't miss ANYTHING.

antz11044500d ago

Very true. Say what you want but I think it will come down to price point for most gamers even if they wont admit it.

TheTwelve4500d ago

Forgive me for sounding perhaps ignorant. But I think all it came down to was who came out with the acceptable quality first. The 360 is NOT a better console than the PS3, but it came out long before the PS3. This was a HUGE factor.

We forget that the masses like new and cool things, and will buy things just for that reason. (That's why the Wii blew up the world when it first came out...something "new".) That's why every system updates and re-packages itself through its lifetime.

Of course, simply being "first", "new" and "cool" won't keep something alive in and of itself, and Microsoft has done an excellent job maintaining the impression that it is "ahead" of the PS3 in everyway. Getting DLC first with big games is a HUGE part of portraying that image. (And this is why the Wii isn't much of a big deal anymore...the "new" effect wasn't built upon and has faded).

If Sony can make sure not to lag behind the 720 release too much, AND come out from the outset with their exclusive muscle, Sony wins. Period. I see no other way and brand loyalty won't be the deciding factor.

12

moparful994500d ago

Well what you are saying is half true.. Here in america the first impression is the most important because people will flock to the "accepted" Product despite flaws.. Just look at the smartphone market.. Apple has that market on lock despite having a more restrictive device.. Android devices are much more flexible and in some instances better quality but the apple has the advantage of being first to market and becoming the standard.. Other parts of the world are very different though and all of this is evidenced by the disparity in sales around the world.. Sony owns every region except for north america but american consumers would have you believe that if you dont own america you already have one foot in the grave.. Its just the way people percieve things..

Thatguy-3104500d ago

Just depends how Sony decides to tackle down online gaming. It's evident that it's the only factor that ppl still prefer the 360 over ps3. It's possible but like logicwins states, why not just be a multi console owner? Most likely that will be the case.

I'm actually jumping ship from PS3 to the Next Xbox or Wii U if the thing has adult games and not just a dozen or so. If Nintendo cater to kids yet again then I'm just getting the next Xbox. Gamer Muzz4499d ago (Edited 4499d ago )

I'll jump ship. I love the 360. it's my console of choice this Gen. But lets face it. the attack on used games that the industry is pushing is insane.
If other consoles offer me the option to play used games, then I'll be glad to support them instead.

Gamer Muzz4499d ago

And queue the fanboys.

A great many of the biggest AAA titles this gen have been Multiplatform (Madden, battlefield, Modern warfare, assassins creed, skyrim, MVC3, ETC.
outside of that, PS3, 360, and Wii have each had some great exclusives.
That kind of fanboy mentality is really sickening. especially considering that's not at all what this article is about to begin with.
Exclusives will have very little to do with people's decisions not to support a console that could potentially lock out used game titles. Keep it on topic please.

IHateYouFanboys4499d ago

@LOGICWINS: "It is UNQUESTIONABLE that the PS3 offers more exclusive titles than the 360. No one can deny this."

you can actually. looking at the TOTAL list of exclusive games for both the PS3 and 360, the 360 is still ahead iirc. Just because Sony has had more in the last 2 years doesnt mean Microsoft didn't have more in the 4 years before that.

and again, it all comes back to the QUALITY and public want for those exclusives. out of all of the PS3 exclusives over the last 2 years, only 2-3 have interested me. i dont care for ratchet and clank, move games, or linear cutscene-a-thons. killzone 3 and GT5 were my only PS3 exclusive purchases iirc, and GT5 was thrown in the drawer after 2 weeks never to be played again.

I'm a "Core Gamer" (i hate these stupid terms - a gamer is a gamer), owning 100+ games this generation, and double that for the previous 2 generations each. you wont find any move/kinect/wii party games in my collection either, only what people on here consider "core" games - funny how the term "Core gamer" has taken over from "Hardcore gamer" in the last ~12 months. guess the internet kiddies who use the term realised that calling themselves hardcore gamers made them sound like what they really are - kids.

anyway, even with all the PS3 exclusives, 99% of the games ive bought have been multiplatform. Crysis 2, Battlefied 3, Rock Band 3, Rayman Origins, Arkham City, Skyrim, Portal 2, etc etc. All of these are BETTER than the PS3 exclusives IMO, and in most critics opinions too. so really, having those exclusives means all of "not much at all" to the PS3. and despite the 360 having less exclusives last year, i bought more of them than i did PS3 ones. funny that. quality over quantity.

Microsoft has kinda dropped the ball this last year with Kinect versus core gamers so I expect some will jump over unless Sony have an extortionate high entry price for the PS4 compared to Xbox 720.

@logicwins.

I think the full title should really be. "Will they jump ship because Microsoft failed core gamers in the last years of Xbox 360".

LOGICWINS4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

Here's the thing: When multiplatform games like COD and Madden continue to sell the way they do, the urgency to create exclusive Xbox franchises dwindles. It makes more business sense to simply to spend buttloads of money to advertise a multiplatform franchise that you KNOW that will sell(COD), instead of taking a risk on a new IP that 360 owners may not like.

360 users have yet to vote with their dollars to protest the 360's lack of exclusives. The 360, after having been on the market for more than half a decade, has JUST had its best sales quarter yet. Clearly the majority of 360 gamers(at least in the U.S) are happy with the current system of two or three exclusives a year and a plethora of multiplatform games.

Why would Microsoft ruin what is obviously working by taking a risk on a new IP? If people want more exclusives, then why not just buy a PS3?

dumahim4500d ago

They know the multiplats will sell well because they have the larger installed userbase. That may not be the case on the next generation. What is MS going to do to bring the core gamers back in the next round? If PS takes a commanding lead, MS cannot rely on multiplats.

GroundsKeeperJimbo4500d ago

@Dumahim
I feel that the lack is most likely from Devs focusing on sequels and new IPs for the next Xbox/PS3. Sony's just been coping better because they have the bigger number of active studios. Just a thought.

dumahim4500d ago

@ GroundsKeeperJimbo

Yeah, that's probably playing a part of it but I don't know if that'll be enough. A lot has changed this generation. MS has sold off developers and I can't even remember the last one they acquired. Also, former exclusive devs have been going multiplatform for bigger sales.

As it looks right now, I just don't see a big turn-around for exclusives on the Xbox.

Jobesy4500d ago

@Logic, I agree, which is why whoever releases first with the next gen titles like COD, BF, Madden, etc will likely take the bigger chunk of the core audience. MS knows this, and if Sony didn't learn their lesson from this gen shame on them. Release date and pricing will determine the victor.

DebateMaster4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

Some people like my friends wont buy a ps3 because most of them have 360s.

GarandShooter4500d ago

'Why would Microsoft ruin what is obviously working by taking a risk on a new IP?'

Seriously? How exactly would investing in a new IP deter people from buying those multiplats?

LOGICWINS4500d ago

"Seriously? How exactly would investing in a new IP deter people from buying those multiplats?"

Where in my comment did I say that investing in a new IP would deter people from buying multiplats on the 360? Please I'm eager to know.

The "risk" I'm referring to is the loss of a financial opportunity. For example:

Is it better to spend $10 million on a new IP that may or may not sell?

OR

spend $10 million on advertising for 3 or 4 high profile multiplats that are guaranteed to sell(COD, GTA, Madden) in order to guarantee that most people will buy these games on the 360 as opposed to the PS3.

raytraceme4500d ago

Just goes to show how gaming is not what is was back in the ps2 era. Really logic marketing is better for who? Microsoft yea but how about gamers??? Gamers want more games that differ from others and sony is the one doing that for the past 3 years. All xbox has been bringing out is shooters, and kinect games. This generation has been brainwashed by microsoft into thinking mare sales is better. Also that $8.5 billion microsoft payed for skype is going well for xbox isn't it instead of investing in lets say $50million/8.5 billion= #of aaa games.

Stuart57564500d ago

That won't happen, it will be reasonably priced with an excellent launch lineup. I dread to think what the next Xbox launch lineup would be. Fable 4 perhaps, a load of kinect 2 crap?

Gearshead754500d ago

Interesting, especially since I know plenty of 360 owners that jumped ship early on because of the hardware problems. Some have come back, but for the most part they have stayed with their PS roots.

Since it will be released 1st there is no doubt some 360 owners will purchase it, but there is also that loyal group that will stay M$ for various reasons. This is just what happened when the PS3 and 360 came out.

As for me I'm a multiplatform owner so I will get both in due time. That is why it is better to be a true console gamer instead of a fanboi that thinks one is so much better than the other.

frelyler4500d ago

I first bought a 360,it died before they started with the new warranty. That really rubbed me the wrong way and I have not looked back. Sure I'm sad I missed gears 2 and 3, but now that Alan Wake is coming to PC there are only two reasons to own an xbox for me and my tastes, but not enough to make me buy another one. Based on what happened to me in 06 and how Microsoft handled it, I will never again buy a first or even second Gen system from them because I learned my lesson and unfortunately corporations are notoriously bad at learning lessons and instead just pass the buck to the consumer. No thanks.

MariaHelFutura4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

Same thing happened to me. But, eventually I got over it and bought another one. Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Lost Oddessy, L4D1 and Tales Of Vesperia made it worth it. Ill be buying the Witcher 2 for it at some point aswell.

frelyler4500d ago

@marialHelFutura

Yeah, clearly I can hold a grudge, it just really pissed me off. If I did not have a PC to play L4D1&2, The witcher series, or ME series then I would probably have broken down and bought one, but I'm fortunate enough to be able to have a decent PC. Also, how can someone disagree with a personal experience I had that is factual based?

PC_Enthusiast 4500d ago

Gearshead75 who said the ps4 won't be out at the same time as the nextbox???!!

Gearshead754500d ago

Ummmm....nobody I was just saying that if it was it would happen. I was only speculating, I take it you are ominpresent and know all. So please do tell which is being released first.

moparful994500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

I_OWN_YOU Calm down man he's was just being speculative.. For once someone can have an objectional opinion so just appreciate that.. I actually agree with him.. In north america timing and price is the most important thing.. Sony had a trifecta of bad luck with the ps3.. Launched a year after the 360, had a lackluster catalog, and was very expensive relatively speaking.. But sony being the company they are found a way to drive costs down, improve performance (smaller UI footprint and internal dev kit) and bolstered their already stellar first party partners.. Today we are reaping the rewards of that extra effort.. We have a cheaper, better performing ps3 with a huge catalog of amazing games and a free online service that stands out on its own..

@Gearshead it's omniscient by the way :D
Omnipresent is being all encompassing..

DrFUD4500d ago

I don't know. This might sound trivial but for me the thing I feel keeps me as a customer is great customer service.
I like being able to speak to someone from my own country when I call customer service.
I always found it funny that the company from Japan allows me to do that while the American company outsources it's helpline to Asia and explaining a problem to someone who doesn't even speak English as their main language is usually another problem on top of the one already.

hellvaguy4500d ago

"American company outsources it's helpline to Asia and explaining a problem to someone who doesn't even speak English"

Another flimsy arguement from a psfanboy. Ive called MS several times and all have been native english speakers and Ive received top notch service.

kaveti66164500d ago

Sony outsources, too. Most tech companies outsource their jobs because they seek a cheaper labor source so they can report higher profits. It's a capitalism thing, not solely attributable to Microsoft.

remanutd554500d ago

i have never owned an xbox before but if microsoft comes out with a franchise that really gets my attention then i will be getting the next xbox , they came really close with Alan Wake this generation and the wii u better bring something new besides Zelda or no buy from me , sony well thats a given so i might end up owning all consoles next gen lol , i dont know if im gonna have the time to play them all though

Why o why4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

alan wake is worth giving the 360 a punt for. No live needed as its single player so no running costs. Im sure theres more games out there worth buying a 360 for but im not the best to tell ya as i still have a few older games to try out like lost odyssey

I wont jump ship as im already on the other boat. The better question may be will either console get bought at launch. Ill grab a ps but will see what games are available for the nextbox especially if both are released around the same time

remanutd554500d ago

i've tried Alan Wake for like an hour or so and then decided not to buy it but im pretty sure if i can play the franchise on the next xbox plus another game that catch my attention i will most likely get it ,same goes to nintendo wii u if Zelda comes out and another great game too then i will get it too

moparful994500d ago

Mass effect 2 was the game that almost made me take the 360 plunge but EA announced it for the ps3 before that happened.. I'm a huge God of War nut and there's nothing on the 360 outside of dante's inferno that comes close to God of War so there really isn't antything tempting me right now.. If I get one it will be so I can play with all of my xbox owning friends.. I just dont want to pay for live..

akaFullMetal4500d ago

alan wake is coming to pc, so you could wait to use that then.

Artpulse review for PlayStation 4 - Demon Gaming

Karl writes: - You’re placed in an out-of-this-world environment (there’s a small selection to choose from) and after a quick tutorial of which buttons do what, you’re free to play! Using the motion controllers to combine a variety of shapes and colors (and a bit of freehand painting) you’ll produce beats, synths and…other musical sounds (I’m not an EDM expert so you’ll have to forgive my ignorance on the subject) which will create and elevate the chosen track (again not a huge selection but enough to showcase ArtPulse).

Himno review for PlayStation 4 - Demon Gaming

Josh writes: - I am going to cut through all the formalities I normally give my reviews with Himno. Normally I try to go into ever Indie title I play with an open mind, and that was no different with Himno. The game boasts “a non-violent, no death platformer.” That may be true that you do not fight off zombies or orcs. However, the bit about not dying is a load of crap as you will constantly fall into the water as you have no clue where you are going half the time.

The animation is nice and it looks like it controls well but they seem to have forgotten to make it a game.

Mekabolt review for PlayStation 4 - Demon Gaming

Lyam writes: - Mekabolt is very simple in concept. Your gun itself is the mekabolt and shooting enemies allows you to manipulate them in a way to continue on in the stage. For instance, one enemy walks on a platform and by shooting it, you can use it to access higher heights. Another is a flying one that when shot, it falls to the ground briefly, letting the player have a moment to jump atop of it and ride upwards. Figuring out the patterns of the enemies and what their benefits are is the key to success in finishing stages. There’s not much difficulty since each time a new concept such as a new enemy appears, the next few stages are simplified to learn the benefits of that enemy.
