Interesting. I was looking forward to this one, I wonder what it means about it being free-to-play though... not rubbish, I hope.

Liefx4482d ago

Free to play doesn't mean rubbish. A lot of games have been following this marketing model lately. All it means is that you will probably be able to buy add-ons for your mech.

Other games doing this include Tribes: Ascend, Team Fortress 2, Alliance Of Valiant Arms, League Of Legends.

All of these games are good, they just make their money from people purchasing cosmetic skins, or minor upgrades for their characters.

I was looking forward to this game but not if its a PC only title. I work on my PC, and like to game on my couch with my consoles.

Letros4483d ago

Couch is a lot of fun, especially at 1080p60 with PC.

OC_MurphysLaw4483d ago

If you have your PC hooked up that way then yes, for sure. My PC sits in my home office where I work from. I wont bring that out to my living room. Down the road who knows...but for now I like to sit on my couch and load up a game on PS3 or the 360 and relax.

1. For Gamer's Sake connect your dam PC to your TV, buy a wireless KB/M or controller of your Choice and Game from your couch.

It's not hard unless i suppose your brain dead and have no clue that PC's and TV's have VGA,HDMI,DVI connections. Sorry but it just irks me to death when people think PC's, couches, and TV don't go together. I play this way a lot myself.

Hawken is an indie game from a small Dev team. F2P format on the PC is the best way an Indie Dev can make a game and make money to save away for another project.

F2P allows them to get their game out and continue improving it while receiving funding through micro-transactions.

Hawken is on my to get list.

OC_MurphysLaw4483d ago

Another one? Why dont you take a step back and cool your jets. You don't know me or my situation. what works for you isn't what will work for me. You may want to have your pc in your living room with your tv....congrats, more power to you. I don't. I choose to keep my PC completely separate because 1) I don't have an effective place to set it up without it sticking out like a sore thumb and 2) I work from that PC and would be too tempted to check on work stuff. Need that separation.

So no, no PC in the living room for me.

Where Do Games Go When They Die?

As we trend ever deeper into a world of games that require servers maintained by the developer or publisher, we see more and more games disappearing from the world. What happens when these games are shut down? What does it take for a game to survive beyond this point?

Alamogordo, New Mexico "RIP E.T."

ApocalypseShadow1669d ago

I was going to say that. Lol!

Actually, "Just ask Atari where ET is."

But basically the same joke.

vikingland11667d ago

It depends on how good they are :-)

Profchaos1667d ago (Edited 1667d ago )

Most modern games that have online components like destiny rely so heavily on co op between players that even if you had a full disc version popping it in and playing won't be a fun experience as you can't play the actual game after hitting a wall with difficulty levels of they even boot

But classic titles like vice city will still be the same in 2049 as they were in 2001 provided you play on a disc not stripped down digital versions that have the soundtrack cut out ten years later

Traecy1667d ago

They don't die, they just become irrelevant. Multiplayer games are another story.

I didn't even realize this game was removed from my Steam library. Bummer.

The game was a UI mess and when I actually played it was an even bigger mess

Blu3_Berry2303d ago

This is exactly why only online multiplayer games won't last very long. It's important to have a single player campaign (a good one, not a throw-away trash story) or some kind of offline multiplayer mode.

sampsonon2303d ago

it's doing well on console mostly because xbox gamers haven't had a good game for a few years.

DialgaMarine2303d ago

I’ve played some great MP-only titles, so needing a SP isn’t really an issue, so much as it’s the developers needing to make the game good and offer content to keep people coming back.

Blu3_Berry2302d ago

Hmmm, I think you hit the nail on the head right there.

Elit3Nick2302d ago

When it's fighting Mechwarrior Online, another PVP mech game from a franchise with an established fan-base, it couldn't really compete. While MWO does have its issues, it has solid combat with a very generous F2P model, unlike Hawken, which forced you to use a starter mech and then buy every other one.

NotanotherReboot2303d ago (Edited 2303d ago )

PUBG does not need a sp campaign. Never let me catch you speaking such rot again.

Vegamyster2302d ago (Edited 2302d ago )

Hawken was never a very popular game, i think its peak concurrent user count was a little over 8k. There is plenty of other popular old MP games, heck the original Counter Strike has a pretty large user base lol.
