[GAMINGtruth] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Review

Gamingtruth writes:
Modern Warfare 3 is going to be the biggest selling game this year. Yet I do not feel it is by any means one of the best games this year. When it comes down to the battle of the military shooters, Battlefield 3 offers new game play elements, a phenomenal multiplayer experience, stunning visuals and a step up in gameplay mechanics. Sure the folks at DICE had a rough launch with their servers, but who doesn’t? The game feels like a $60 map pack for Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2. Aside from the lackluster story that no one will remember by this time next month, Modern Warfare 3 is a simple re-hash of what was already in many homes. The game feels rushed and if Activision was smart it would pump the brakes on the franchise before it falls even further but, knowing the track record of the company, get ready to see more re-hashes for the next five years.

This game is so bad. SP is boring, MP maps are a terrible, overcrowded mess of pixels with too many killstreaks. The only actually good thing about MW3 is the Spec Ops Mode. I'm not going to lie, it's pretty damn fun even though the AI is brian dead.

pansenbaer4551d ago

I'll be renting it just for Spec Ops.

Will also probably play the campaign as well.

But Battlefield gets my multiplayer time...

Spitfire_Riggz4551d ago

Yeah, most of my friends who played battlefield 3 and had high hopes (after seeing B3) were extremely disappointed with modern warfare 3

RedDead4551d ago

Gonna buy it pre owned depending on how my friends like it. I will not by new. I'd prefer to support gamestop than Acti

ginsunuva4551d ago

Don't support either. Why do you want it just because your friends do? Are you a weak, spineless insect who gives into peer-pressure against his own will for acceptance from dumb people in society? Or are you a strong man who makes his own decisions, and shows those friends whether THEY should follow you or not, not you following them.

Was that persuasive enough?

vickers5004550d ago (Edited 4550d ago )

@ginsunuva

"Are you a weak, spineless insect who gives into peer-pressure against his own will for acceptance from dumb people in society?"

No, he's (probably) someone willing to make some sacrifices in order to have a better social life.

There are activities I would rather not participate in that my friends want to to (just as there are activities that my friends don't want to do), but I tolerate them in order to have a better social life and to keep friendships.

Nobody wants to hang out with the selfish asshole who only does what he wants to do.

I'm not saying that if he doesn't buy MW3 then he's an asshole, but doing SOME things just because your friends do them can be healthy, and unless you want to be that lonely selfish asshole who stays at home and does everything alone, you tolerate some of the stuff they want to do, just as they tolerate the stuff you want to do. It's about not being a selfish prick.

"Or are you a strong man who makes his own decisions, and shows those friends whether THEY should follow you or not, not you following them."

Yeah! If his friends don't do whatever he says, then f*ck them! He's better off without them anyways. Who needs a social life, right? /s

cyborg69714550d ago

Unlike you gins he may have friends who want to play with him. And he ie doing the same thing I'm doing. So stfu.

5119ent4551d ago

this game will go the way of the dinosaur...just be patient

Remembered 10,000 years later?

Marquis_de_Sade4550d ago

10,000 years? Try 65,000,000

NegativeCreep4274551d ago (Edited 4551d ago )

and take advantage of the Buy Two, Get One Free promo on Amazon and buy Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, and Batman: Arkham City.

With those games now in my collection and by the time I'm through with those great games, I won't even consider buying MW3 until it hits the $40 benchmark, at least.

Boody-Bandit4551d ago (Edited 4551d ago )

Beat the single player an hour ago. Played it online for a few hours and I'm already bored. It literally is the same game we played 4 years ago. The only difference is some new modes, weapons and perks.

The single player game is nearly identical in how it is presented from start to finish, trigger point spawning, xray heli and ac 130 fly over targeting, javelin killing tanks, breaching doors, wave after wave of enemies, slow motion boring dramatics, same graphics (but I do really like the lighten in this game, always have), being one character after another mission after mission, same cliche story same cliche out come.

Multiplayer has the same horrible masked latency, camp fest, horrendous hit detection, over the top unbalanced perks, etc and so on. This is a tired ass old engine that needs to go away.

If I was to rate this game I think a 6.5 to 7 would be about accurate. It's a shame that so many bigger sites are cowing down and over rated this game. It's not even a great game its just okay.

Flame on but check my XBL GT - BoodyBandit and see for yourself if I did not just complete this game and put enough time in to give an honest opinion. Over milked under worked title. New engine and dedicated servers is what this game is screaming for. For me personally, if Activision and Kotick wont do that than I can only hope this game will start to drop off rapidly unless they make serious changes.

Oh and BTW, I honestly tried hard to like this game but it is beyond been there did it done that. It is literally the same exact game we have been playing since last gen with some very miniscule tweaks and not for the better.

Fylus4551d ago

I think the game does need a few more scores like this. Not to say if it's a bad game, but if the developers see it getting lower scores, they're gunna try harder to make a better game next year. Unfortunately remodeling and adding a couple minor features doesn't cut it. At least not for me, but hey, everyone has their opinions.

Avernus4551d ago

I like this review. Honest, and no BS about it.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

melons14d ago

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac14d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher29d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris29d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera28d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii28d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts28d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX28d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

is this what the kids want these days a pair of iconic stoners who were big in the 70s and have kind of held on I enjoyed their movies decades ago but I never recall the movie where cheech infiltrates a enemy base while chong snipes for support guess I must of missed that one

Man I'm getting to old for this

Knightofelemia28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

Cheech just looks so wrong in the picture.

Profchaos28d ago

Why just why. cod up in smoke

anast28d ago

They charge too much for a game that is kitsch.

MW3 missed its easiest opportunity to give us some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made

From Bootleg to Black Box, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made a heartbreaking mistake by not remastering the bizarrely forgotten maps from its namesake.
