From DevilsMMO:
'I was lay in bed last night thinking about Star Wars: The Old Republic – it’s one of those things I do. And the more I think about it, the more I think it’s such a strange prospect for an MMO. A quick look over the details is comforting: plenty of classes to choose from, worlds to explore and things to do. But the same could be said for a dozen MMOs, all of which are no longer here.'
EA is nearing an agreement to move the ongoing development and operation of MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic from BioWare to third-party studio Broadsword Online Games, IGN has learned. The move is intended to allow BioWare to focus on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
A new update for Star Wars: The Old Republic is coming out on PC and the patch notes provide us with an in-depth look at all the new changes.
I loved this game and have played since launch but don't let this article fool you, this game is a step above life support. While they are still technically updating the game, the updates are few and far between and there is a significant lack of quality control, so many little bugs that have been present for years.
SWTOR players, get ready for a new month of exciting in-game events! Here's what's coming up in January 2023.
I highly doubt it will. The graphics are not a pixel better than World of Warcraft and their only "grasp" on people is a specific target group who loves role-playing and lots of in-game dialogue(most WoW players dislike this).
Smells more and more like another Age of Conan.
I think it'll ultimately leave many people wanting more. It seems more like WoW set in space with the smell of Bioware on it.
I personally lost quite a bit of interest when in an interview when asked what endgame content there was, the bioware employee basically said "arena, battlegrounds, dungeons, heroic dungeons and raids". While I don't think endgame is as such a priority for Bioware, when I finally reach the promised land of no more leveling, I want some diverse things to do not just an endless repetition to constantly improve my gear.
all the demo's have lived to the hype so far, and considering its actually going to be a classic bioware rpg and not the junk that they try to pass off as one this makes it better imo
This is a wow skin and nothing more, I watched a vid of it with TotalBiscuit commentating and man I nearly fell asleep, you could also tell how bored TB was throughout.
Basically if a sci-fi star wars version of wow with what looks like as many cutscenes as MGS and horrible combat is your idea of fun then go for it, personally I've played wow on and off for 6 and a 1/2 years now and I want something fresh thx, Guild Wars 2 looks like it will fill that hole, TB agrees.
Ok this game gives me mixed feelings. 1st off; I got a bad feeling that this game will fail just simply due to the fact that BW isn't really good at making video games. They're good with voice acting, animations, and cutscenes I'll give them that but not really good with gameplay. 2nd; I want this game to succeed just because that its star wars (star wars fan here).
So you can see the problem that I am having. Knowing that BW is making this game, its clear that they are going to add aspects into this game that they added into all of their other games. What I'm talking about here is companions and having relationships with them.
Now 1st off, companions; this is an MMO, you're suppose to team up with other player's and do quests/dungeons/raids together. At least when you are talking with the other players they are not going to have some scripted response. The only good things about companions in this game is that they'll make good crafting-slaves and possibly other stuff that would be... slightly boring, repetitive I guess?
2nd, relationships; I don't know why BW does this. This... element in their games is not needed. The fact that they are focusing on both crowds (I'm sure most of you guys know what I'm taking about) is stirring up a "morale" conflict amongst others. IMO I think they should just get rid of relationships in the game.
I remember I was playing 1 of their games and out of the blue 1 of the characters, that was the same gender as me, was hitting on me, totally knocking me out of the immersion of the game and unable to get re-immersed. Now I'm not saying cut out only that aspects of relationships in the game because that'll be unfair for those who are of that orientation. Again removing relationships will probably the best and least offensive option.
Also another thing that relationships need to go is BW is so focused on making a "relationship" with your character that they are purposely cutting out the Wookiee race! Their excuse is "they don't want your character kissing a blob." or something amongst those lines. So if you are a fan of the mighty Wookiees or some other race that they would be deemed a "blob", BW is simply going to make them an unplayable race.
To end this topic of relationships I have 1 more thing to add. Again this is an MMO you can bring your partner into this game and if you don't have a partner then you can (not recommended) date people in the game. Another proof/reason that this element is not needed.
Ok I'm going to take a break now, tired of typing. These are just the 2 things that bother me the most about SWTOR. If BW wasn't making this game, I think I won't be so worried but the fact is they are.
1st super long comment I made ever, hoped you enjoyed. Will most likely continue with this later.
