Has Rage bitten off more than it can chew?

Rage looks set to offer some great gaming moments, but is its release period going against it, and its vehicle based multiplayer necessary? (PC, PS3, Rage, Xbox 360)

It looks great but I think they picked the wrong release window... gonna get clobbered, lost in the shuffle, and forgotten. I haven't seen any PR for this game worth mentioning.
