How to be a fanboy without being a troll

Trolls have been plaguing the internet gaming community for years now; rather the entire internet. Its time we did something about it and take steps to avoid this bothersome concept and its connoisseurs.

A troll will scrutinize any aspect of a game he does not like.Game/System.

A fan will be incredibly proud and display frequently that they love a certain thing without being a douche and downplaying the competition.

i think theres a differance between a 'fan' and a 'fanboy'.

theres 4 differant levels you can be at. well 5 actually.

level 1= neutral
level 2= a fan of a game/console
level 3= fanboy (logic does not apply)
level 4= ignorant baby troll
level 5= NASIM (sums it up in one word)

you're the one thats delusional EVEN gears 3 BETA looks better than gears 2 campaign in EVERY way. gears 2 textures look grainy, animations sucked, alpha effects low res and no dynamic lights whatsoever. gears 3 improves on everything. besides aren't you the ones that where insulting dice because you believe ps3 is capable of replicating battlefield 3 pc version graphics ? so much for calling me delusional you really don't realize that EVEN a 2006 pc> ps3+360 combined do you ? check out bulletstorm on pc(as crappy as it looks compared to other PROPER pc games) and see if it does destroy all console games in the graphics departments

Exactly. Im a fan of Microsoft, but I own a PS3 also. If I had to sell one it would be the PS3, but Ill be the first to admit the faults of the Xbox360 as there are many of them.

If you call yourself a gamer, why limit your choices of games to be loyal to a company?

You can still make a choice and follow with a side because of unique games , especially if most are available on both .

I dont think its fair to say someone isnt gamer enough , as an example , if he refuses to get a ps3 or a 360 , or a wii or any other platforms . There are some people who genuinely refuse to pick any of those based on a real lack of interest in their exclusives games . it's a hobbies that does cost money besides , so not everyone will buy based on "what if" and one shiny game out of an insipid (in their opinion) line of games

Just like in the comics world it wouldnt be fair to question a fan for favoring MArvel or DC or DC over Marvel . The only way everyone would pick both , is if there were no difference at all , wich would be boring .

Now what sets them apart from being a troll/fanboy , is how they express themselves . Even for negative comment if they at least argue instead of just swearing , insulting games , publishers or outright lying to themselves and others , then it's their right and fine .

A troll is unconditionally willfully and intentionally choosing their words to attract attention.

People misconstrue the term troll too often nowadays. Everybody in the world is a troll if you generalize the term hard enough.

Silly thing is far to many fanboys attack you for being a troll just because you disagree with their point of view/game/console. The same happens with reviews of games when all they ever are is someone's opinion. It happens all to often here.

The worst kind are the ones who support one brand over another, be it xbox, ps3 or Apple etc. A true gamer will buy what ever product plays the game he's interested in.

Yes a true gamer will buy whatever product play the games he's interest in . But why assume every "console loyalists" cut themselves from games they'd enjoy ?

I didnt end up with most consoles each generation to prove i'm such a "true gamer" , but because at some point each of those consoles provided enough games i wanted .

In my case didnt care on the 360 for halo , fable , gears of war and some of the flagship franchises ... thus i remained a while without any xbox . And then once a few titles i cared about appeared (like vesperia , mass effect ) THEN i bought the console .

This repeated effort to make the connotation of the term "fanboy" synonymous with some derogatory dysfunction is an EPIC FAIL in itself. Who goes into a sporting event, because they just like the sport, they don't care who wins or loses and how they feel evenly for all the teams? Who goes into a clothing store and says they don't care about brands, that all labels are the same? Who goes shopping for a car and just blindly picks whatever brand they get by randomly flipping open a page in the phone book? It is human nature to be a fan of specific products. Stop trying to turn everything a shade of gray because there are color preferences. It is just ridiculous to keep trying to do this.

You are right , imo except that everything you described is a just a "fan" not a "fanboy", even if there are various degrees of fandom .
In general , and even within its early origins of the term , fanboys are the religious extremists equivalent of afficionados .

Maybe i'm wrong , but if a good kind of fanboys exists , whatever the hobby or sport , i've yet to encounter one .

One can have a preference for a particular brand, sports team, or even ideal without showing "fanboy" behavior. In the case of the atypical piece of garbage know as the "fanboy" or "corporate cheerleader" I offer the following example:

Fan: Enjoys Ford vehicles, buys Ford vehicles, when asked tells others I enjoy my Ford vehicle.

Fanboy: Buys any vehicle only because it has Ford on it, Shouts at others on the road "you suck" just for owning anything other than a Ford, wastes his weekends visiting "enemy" car dealerships pointing at people, laughing, and calling them idiots for buying a non-Ford car.

Socially...they are damaged goods and emotionally immature. The behavior is nothing more than identity crisis. They have no sense of self-worth, whether deserved or not, so they latch on like a parasite to any brand they deem successful. If the brand is number 1 then ergo they are number one and better than anyone else. They will defend by any means necessary for fear of losing their perceived "value". I don't bother getting angry at them...just shake my head in pity.

I'm an Exclusive PC Gamer but you may call me a PC fanboy but i would disagree with that term because if you were to point a valid fact about PC Gaming i would agree.

Unlike a Fanboy who would just ignore logic and make up crap to argue with you back.

Do i own a console.......technically NO! (My PC plays ALL Wii games)
Do i play console games.......rarely! I go next door and play only the best console games to see if I'm missing out on anything. Almost bought a Ps3 for GOW3.

I just prefer the PC because of the tech, mods, control (use any controller for any game), flexibility, and longevity of PC Games.

Trolls are just a bunch of nobodies plaguing the net with little to no intellect behind the remarks/comments they make.

Now I am a gamer, I only own a Xbox. I like it because I play with my friends get in and out of matches in MP setup party's and groups all on the fly. Its a social experience for me which I prefer.

I also enjoy the changes to the dashboard the streaming services, exclusive and many Multiplatform games. I wouldn't mind owning a PlayStation for I contemplate of buying one on many occasions.

Balancing games and exclusives from Sony and (Hopefully eventually) MS would be too tough for me, too much money down the pipe. Now with that being said I prefer the 360 over the PlayStation. (Already gave reason above)

But that doesn't mean I the NEED to troll I have absolutely have no intention of Trolling what so ever I will call them out if I see a stupid comment though.In fact I get as much knowledge on gaming as possible I don't leave in my head in my box.

I wanna have friends and intelligent convos with my counterpart console lover. Discuss things have real debates and even befriend a PlayStation who share the interest of gaming like I do.

So the elites of PlayStationers and Xboxers should come together to just have intelligent conversations and reasonable Biased thoughts without acting out as such.

and that is true gamer speaking.just because you have preferences of one system over another doesn´t make you fanboy or less of a gamer.you chose x360 for the reasons you stated above,my console of choice was ps3 simply because i was satisfied with ps2 and other sony products.ps3 had a rough start with heavy price,not really compelling library of games and risk of b-ray losing to hd-dvd.but it eventually did come around,games are now aplenty(and not only exclusives,multiplats are great as well),price is down,b-ray seems to do well and tbh i feel that spending money on next gaming system is neither needed nor justified(for me,what other ppl do is their choice).i was considering getting x360 when GeOW was coming out but since i was spending most of my time on ps3 anyway,i decided not to make a purchase.and now with baby on the way i will have even less time so ps3 stays as only one for me,my woman and eventually my son:P
