Weak Console Sales and Final Fantasy XIV Trouble Lead to Losses at Square Enix

Andriasang: In a statement today, CEO Yoichi Wada said "Our Group experienced significantly lower sales and profit during the fiscal year mainly due to weak performance of console game titles released during the year as well as the impact of a continued delay in billing for a key online title, which was newly launched during the year."

''CEO Yoichi Wada said "Our Group experienced significantly lower sales and profit during the fiscal year mainly due to weak performance of console game titles released during the year''

I LOL'D then maybe release better games?

Wada has single handily destroyed squareenix. The name square-enix used to mean the best games now it means mediocre at best. Wada's personal vendetta against sony has only hurt the gaming industry as a whole. Just hurry up and leave wada.

square enix has done a great job with portables. just not with consoles

gaffyh5146d ago

I hope Wada gets fired, he's ruined Squeenix, and for some reason supported a console in Japan that has the lowest install base. I'm not a business person, but I know to release games where the fan base is!

bubbles up gaffy that was well said

Can't say I agree with the portables comment. ff advent was bad and 3rd birthday was meh. Re mastering a game for the ds isn't exactly groundbreaking.

Agree in general, but Tactics Ogre for PSP was probably game of the year for me.

ismejks5146d ago

sigh...mixed feeling, once the most fav company now became like this...looking back what triple A titles has been released so far for current gen, i can say only FF13 while it was also a disappointment.

ismejks5146d ago

ya but as for console there are none except FF13.

This is why I doubt VS will remain exclusive. Makes financial sense to go multiplat. Hype the game as PS3 exclusive, get everybody all excited and then BAM! There it is!

ZombieAssassin5146d ago

Yea I see it happening too, they just better not push the ps3 version back further so they can port it...not that it'll be out anytime soon.

97gsx5146d ago

Did wada really blame weak console sales? LOL Wada is a failure at life.

Troll-without-Bridge5146d ago

Yes, their games on consoles didnt sell very well last year. Nier, Kaine and lynch and whatnot.

Its far fetched to call him a failure at life, seen how he lead the company to great profit in 2009, FFXIV just ruined the forecast.

97gsx5146d ago

2009 did well because surprise ff13. FF games always sell well. Why do you think square is rushing thru to make a sequel to 13? They developed 14 at a chinese developer that horribly destroyed it. The game has been a huge embarrassment to square-enix as a whole. Wada is looking incredibly bad right now in japan. Square is a sinking ship.

.
Especially it's a MMORPG.

Why can't it be just a traditional JRPG?

Albeit some (if not, most) gamers didn't like XIII, I don't recall Square Enix make losses with XIII; which is a JRPG.
