Shortly on the heels of announcing its $39-billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA Inc., AT&T lobbed out another surprise --plans to launch a smart phone with a 3-D screen and a camera for 3-D videos and snapshots.
i gotta get one of these
If it has a touch screen is FAIL, 3D and touch screen don't mix :P
"super" smartphone? it's just an android with a 3d screen...what's so super about it?
Btw, for those that don't know, the LG Thrill is another name for the LG Optimus 3D. My own opinion on this? Judging how the 3DS seems to have problems with long term gaming, I predict that this will have similar problems (obviously not solely with gaming), let it develop a generation or 2, then I might consider getting a 3D phone. My next phone however, is the SE Xperia Arc... beautiful looking...
I agree that there will be kinks, but I personally believe they are going to be the standard in the industry in a few short years.
They didn't catch on when the first 3D phones launched in Japan back around 2002, and from what I saw at MWC last month the new screens aren't much better, just higher resolution. They still have a pretty narrow viewing position. Looking at photos was kind of like looking at those 3D hologram stickers, you need to move it back and forth a little to really get the 3D feel. But don't move it too much or you lose the 3D entirely. Video works better as there are usually things already moving to help show the 3D effect.
@Undead B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. I have the x10 mini, it's great but that one is Amazing...
I see 3-D as the standard in just 2 years for all smart phones. Awesome.
dude i have to agree most phones will 3-D and the ones that arent will be below standard
yeah I think so too, 3-D is where all of the phones are going. You have to remember after the last game conference they are getting bigger in gaming. It won't be long before we are answering our phone on our game console that we carry in our pocket.
so our phones are becoming our gaming consoles.
that is a little crazy for me to believe. I personally think that mobile gaming may grow, but will never totally surpass console gaming in popularity.
Didn't it aleady in Japan?
The weird thing is that Iwata said that 3D screens get messed up by scratches, fingerprints, and smudges. Maybe LG's using an updated version of the parallax barrier. Talking about the phone, man is it awesome, but you should check out the newly announced EVO 3D! 1080p cam with 720p 3D recording and 1.2ghz dual core.
ARM Cortex A9 (LG 3D) vs ARM Cortex A8 (EVO 3D) i think people are naturally seeing 1Ghz vs 1.2Ghz and saying more is better, which is wrong in this case. smart move, HTC/Qualcomm, smart move.
nice, didn't notive that. Yea the optimus is definitely faster in cpu terms. What's the gpu, tegra and adreno respectively?
i'm not positive yet. the new Qualcomm dual-core still needs to be benchmarked. the Adreno 220 should be comparable in GPU performance to that of the other dual-core chips. but right now it's TI OMAP4>Tegra2>Exynos some say the Exynos wasn't given a fair benchmark though since it's not actually out yet. but i don't think anything is going to beat the TI OMAP4 tbh
sorry at&t sucks!!! For phone plans that is.
I think that AT&T is sucky but I can see how mobile gaming is growing into a force to be reckoned with as the tech improves on the smart phones.
- Disagree and you're technically agreeing.
3-D imaging on a phone?????????? what so the texts would bulge out instead of 2-D staying static lol. seems a bit ridiculous to me
as crazy as it seems the mobile phone may take the place of the console some day
Yeah i see it happening as well in the industry 3-D will become the standard imaging in all mobile devices in the next 1-2 years but too me, it just doesn't seem practicle
"Sexting" just got more real.
Sh*t just got real.
this is going to be amazing.
Just like the Evo 3D coming out in a couple months. http://www.phonedog.com/201...
AT&T rocks got a 29.00 discount from my cell phone bill (78.00), I get all of is accessories at half price, etc. Anyways, this phone sounds amazing but at what cost.
I know it's an old joke, but it becomes more poignant the more stuff we add to phones: Can it make phone calls?
