New God of War Title On Its Way? [rumor]

Recent job postings on SCEA website are calling for people to join the God of War team in Santa Monica studios. Could this be for a new God of War Title?

I would also be a little disappointed. The Santa Monica team are a group of very talented devs and I would like to see them create a new franchise. Imagine a completely new game set in another time or universe that utilizes the same graphic engine used on GOW3.

Yep Stig did say that they didnt manage to utilize the GOW3 engine fully so a game that uses the engines full power added to Kratos' epicness would be totally awesome! I am really hoping for a God of War 4!! God of War 3 is one of the best games I have ever played.

You can never have too much Kratos. By the way, the Santa Monica studio developers said that they had some epic boss battle in God of War 3 as one of the projects that couldn't make it in the final part of the game. They said that they just didn't see how it fit in with the story line.

anyone else think Kratos could have survived? I mean he killed every god and got a power except from poseiden, which leads me to believe that he got the healing power, but if he feel in the river styx then he's power would have been taken away. Unless it didn't, although your character didn't regenrate health throughout the game, the ending was exactly the same as what Poseiden was about to do before Kratos killed him.

I know it's possible, but to me it just felt pointless showing that part like that, i mean I pretty much thought he was dead from the BoO when he stabbed himself, i felt like that blood trail leading to the cliff side was far to much of a coincident with what Poseiden was trying to do. I mean obviously he was still alive to be able to drag himself off the cliff, but if the devs meant for him to kill himself why not just leave it at how it was after he stabbed himself.

However that does sound familiar with God of war 2 ending, but why not show it?

There is also a possibility that he died. We saw his bloodtrail leading to a cliff so he probably jump to his death like he was previously attempting during GoW1 and GoS.

Another one is that his "Godly" powers where drained when he stabbed himself with the BoO. I highly doubt Kratos survived that. It's an assumption that even when he got Poseidon's healing power just as you said, he lost every power he gained when he stabbed himself.

Remember that BoO has the ability to drain "Godly" powers.

i read an interview with the maker of god of war 3 and he said that they put the ending in there because they werent even sure if they were goin to continue the story or not. the way they did it with him goin off the cliff lets them go either way with...it was a smart idea

Well, either way, if he's dead, he's shown in GoW2 he can claw his way out of anywhere (hell). The big difference though is that he has little left to do, in terms of vengeance.

I would hope they would start a new franchise in the same vein as GoW, but a different mythology possibly. The only problem is that Kratos is such a Playstation icon now, they wouldn't want to abandon it when they know there is still money to be made from him. Maybe something like an alternate timeline with the same character: Kratos the Viking? =P

I'm hoping it's for a new IP. As a HUGE GOW fan I felt Stig Asmussen didn't have a real feel for the story and characters of GoW even though he's been on board since the original God of War. The nuance of handling advancement through the different set pieces to tie into the story along with dialog/narration felt like a all time low in GoW3. Kratos as a character felt written off as just out to seek revenge without going into his guilt or consciousness until the very end of the game. The lack of dialog between Kratos and the gods before the boss fights were highly dissapointing for me as well.

Even the handling of Gia felt out of character compared to how she was presented in the previous games among other things. The gameplay however was phenominal (wish the nemean whip was replaced by something else like zeus's sword). The game was a technical marvel but the story, characters and dialog let me down. However if they wanted to make a new IP exploring a different mythos/folklore I'd be all up for it.

wow i honestly could not Agree more despite the scale the ps3's tech pushed the gow franchise to even though it was never less than spectacular before it. i just walked away feeling like it was a bit of a hollow experience. i really think the SM team accomplished what they set out to but kratos seemed to lose his humanity and became invulnerable to the god defying moments. the idea actually works well as a metaphor of kratos's personality but his struggle for vengeance became much less compelling

See. It's one thing if they wanted to really push the vengeance aspect of Kratos's journey. But they never really explored it besides have Kratos say "I will not be denied my vengeance". Heck they even could have had Athena show up and show Kratos he was repeating the same steps he took when he accidentally killed his family because of his blind fury. Not to mention it just felt flat out awkward for me to be fighting Poseidon the FIRST god to ever help Kratos in the GoW series without a ounce of dialog between the two or any other reason.

I get that it was supposed to be a "war" against the gods but really Kratos was set only on getting to Zeus. Also the natural progression of the game didn't feel as tight as the other games. It felt like you were thrust into environments more than having the experience feeling more organic by going to place to place. All in all I felt like how GoW3 was written wasn't up to par with the series standard even though technical wise it was the best GoW in the series. After beating the game it really made me appreciate just how much care David Jaffe and Cory Barlog put into GoW1 & 2.

We need MGS5 first before GoW4 if we go by the pattern. There is always a GoW game released after a MGS game(I might be wrong on the ps2 ones).

You know Kojima could set MGS5 in the Cold War era aka. Big Boss' story. It could probably show how Outer Heaven move to Africa, Zero blackmail him, Miller betray him etc.

Big Boss games has always gone portable(Portable Ops, Peace Walker) with the exemption of MGS3.

Personally I'm ready for a new IP from Kojima. MGS feels like it's wrapped up for me with the end of MGS4. All the characters has been explained and covered in pretty good detail. Though if somehow a MGS5 was made and theoretically it was based around Ocelots rise to prominence after meeting Big Boss I'd probably buy the game.

Picture this. Kratos survives and moves on to have a daughter. She grows up and discovers that Athena has gathered together certain fallen Gods who have reached a higher plain of existense like she did. They attempt to take the place of the former Pantheon and his daughter realises they must be stopped. Since Kratos is permanently damaged from his injuries, she takes her father's Blades of Exile which still have his power in them and fuse them to her arms just like him and goes on a quest to destory Athena and the fallen gods permanently. And..... she is topless throughout the whole game.

GOW 3 did end in a cliff hanger. Where did Kratos go? I'm guessing now there is some sort of conflict with Athena. She was pretty pissed that he let all the Hope out of the box. All the gods are dead, except Athena. She transcended to a higher plane of existence because she saved Zues. I think Kratos will have his wounds temporarily healed, but throughout GOW 4 they will have adverse effects up to his final demise, after he takes down Athena, and the game will finally end in some sort of anti climatic yet epic way. In which case I'll cry, cause I know it'll finally be over.

It's not that Kratos let all the hope out of the box. It's because he had Hope inside of him. While the other famines of the box befell the gods of Olympus Kratos had been infused with the most powerful of them all: Hope. Athena wanted Hope so she could lead the people from the horrors thats befell them and be claimed as the "One true god". She did stand by and let all the other gods be slaughtered by Kratos and the Titans, It's actually one of the things I liked about the story at the end. It had that classical greek flair of the gods being self serving right up to the end of the story.

Dude this is such a no brainer. Santa Monica spent a lot of resources making the GOW3 engine. So you already know another PS3 GOW is coming plus Starhawk and a GOW NGP game.

Just look at GG, they spent much time on the engine for Kz2, two years later KZ3 and we should see a new ip within a year plus KZ NGP

ND was able to knock out 3 UC games on the PS3 w/ a NGP game in the mix. just look at the pattern from the AAA developers. SP inFamous 1,2, Sly then inFamous 3 in 2013

I think it was obvious with God of War III's ending that they can continue the series in many ways. THe ending basically could tie into any time period especially modern day considering the mythos of Pandora's box and Hope is very far-reaching.
