Initial Impressions From the Nintendo 3DS Event in NYC (Video)

"Yesterday we had the privilege of being among select members of the press who had the opportunity to check out the Nintendo 3DS for the first time since E3. Nintendo’s Reggie Fil-Aime took the stage and finally gave us all the information we needed to know before the systems launch, including it’s price point. Our very own Francois Chang (who also happens to be our in-house Nintendo fanboy) decided to share his initial thoughts after trying out a bunch of the titles that were on hand. Hit the jump to watch the video and find out what he took away from his play time with Nintendo’s latest handheld."

I'm a bit skeptical about the AR stuff, just because I don't think it worked so hot for the PSP games that supports it. Although, it would be cool if it actually works and is fun, so I guess we'll see what happens.

Danl4861d ago

Yeah, AR stuff definitely seems like more of the attention-getting gimmick. That's not to say that the 3D camera won't be able to do some legitimately cool stuff, I just don't think we've seen it yet.

taz80804861d ago

AR is a gimmic and so is Mii stuff. No one will play with that more than a handful of times.

I love how Nintendo gets very hot looking women to demo their products They did the same at E3. LOL

When I went to see Toy Story in 3D the Disney logo came up and was all WOOOOSH and went into 3D. Then a little girl in the audience was all "IT'S IN MY FACE!"
That moment made me kind of glad the childlike wonder of 3D still exists, but sad at the same time because kids today are gonna be nuts over 3D and it's gonna overpower everything for years to come.
Also it was freakin' hilarious.

allenhpark4861d ago

The one redeeming factor is that these kids' eyeballs will explode before they turn into adolescents and make the next Call of Duty game uber-popular.

ZING!

I just hope that developers don't go out of their way of forcing the 3D. Like if the game doesn't necessarily need the featured it should be there.

Just look at the cash grab going on in Hollywood where it's being tacked on to movies that aren't even recorded in the format.

iiprotocolii4861d ago

I'm pretty sure that's going to be the case. 3D is becoming the new "thing" this generation. Although it might not seem sensible at some cases, developers might try to shove it in as many titles as they can to lure in the more casual crowd. Damn you, Avatar. Damn you.

thevokillist4861d ago

"It's in my face!" Funniest thing I've heard all day. The 3D craze is definitely going to be around for a while, that's the beauty of technology.... always getting better.

egm_hiphopgamer4861d ago

I Can't believe I missed out on this event but it's all good I had other things going on so it's cool. Dualshockers once again coming with the heat for the industry god bless you guys and thanks

taz80804861d ago

Nintendo will capitalize on the innovation of 3D and how popular it has gotten. Sony will have a big catch up game to play up against the new 3DS.

JoelT4861d ago

Come January 27th Sont better go big with the PSP2.. that's all I'm saying.

JohnColaw4861d ago

This is just the first step to Nintendo's upcoming face melting technology. In all seriousness though, it's hard to believe this thing is coming out soon. Seems like it was just announced a few weeks ago.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno8d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
